My head hurts, too many views, too many opinions. If I had a penny for every stupid thing I did when I was younger, I'd be rich! The point is everyone does things that are very stupid but you somehow think it's funny to do it regardless. He probably felt that he was being clever when he edited the wiki, when he got back in under a different guise [If he did that at all]. Hell, he probably did it because he's having a hard time in real life and felt that he had to do something to get his frustrations out. As Net has probably said before, look at it from someone elses perspective.

That's life, you just have to learn to move on and learn from past mistakes. *hint hint* Wink

Quick query: should problems arising from situations like these be addressed by private message or public forum-posts? Public forum posts prevent the possibility of individuals brewing private feuds between one another, but private messages avoid 'publicly shaming' someone for a mild misdemeanor.

Thoughts?

I actually prefer everything to be out in the open. When everything goes on in private, it gives me the feeling everyone's plotting. Especially when I know I've said something unacceptable and no one says anything. I've always preferred being publicly humiliated than having people whisper about me in private and one day just being banned. But that's me.

Private messages are better for less public humiliation, but if someone doesn't know about that you cannot get everyone's opinion. May I suggest we simply do it behind closed doors?

Are we saying PMs to relevant authority figures here, or a quick PM to whoever crossed over the line? A kind, quiet word to someone asking politely to stop doing something could go far. Wink

I suppose it depends upon the offence and other such things really though.

Sending a quick, polite, message to someone when they make a mistake is probably a good idea. But discussing issues you have with another member behind their backs where they have no oppertunity to defend themselves and theres no chance of anyone else adding an alternative perspective or additional information which might affect the situation seems to me to be a perfect way to breed irrational grudges.

What's the problem with discussing this in secret areas of the dojo that are only open to mods? That way, we avoid public arguments and still make sure all the relevant people are informed, kind of like what we have been doing, except taking care to keep it out of the public eye. This is what Raven suggested a couple of posts back, and frankly, it seems to be the most sensible option.

I don't understand why people are getting so worked up over *possibly* treating this... person with *a little* disrespect. Did he respect any of you? No, he did not. So why should you waste your time or energy giving him any respect?

Nobody who took action against DLM/Psychonaut has done anything wrong, even in the slightest, as far as I can see. I think it's about time this discussion was over.
