Description
These strange creatures appear to the observer as flat, two-dimensional polygons.
They can take the form of triangles, pentagons, a hectagon, or even in some cases a chiliagon (1000 sided polygon).
The colour filling the polygon can alter depending on mood of the creature, colour of the surrounding environment, or just what the creature considers to be aesthetically pleasant. We seem to have noticed that these beings have an increased sensitivity to colour, as it is used as basic communication, similar to body language in humans.
For each corner of the polygon, a small brilliant white light shines, and we have been assured by these entities that these are how they see light.
The Feylon can manipulate objects around them by what appears to be telekinesis - although they tell us that they have limbs that are outside the visible spectrum of light. Infrared and ultraviolet scans have told us nothing, but we do tend to see flashes of movement around the polygons that they consist of. This brings us onto another point: The Feylon do not seem to be affected by gravity, upthrust, air resistance or otherwise, and exactly how they move is mystifying to all - the Feylon are unwilling to tell us.
Nothing is known on how these things reproduce - few have asked, and no Feylon has ever responded when asked.
Culture
The Feylon are incredibly independant - their social structures are loose, at best. Normally, they tend to stay away from each other, but if several are together, they will have no complaints. They are social creatures that seem to favour solitude slightly better, and prefer to explore the universe then to stay and float around doing nothing.
The Feylon do seem to feel similar emotions to us - they feel happiness, sadness, appreciation, repulsion, anger, worry, pity, and so on. However, they tend to react a lot more strongly if they are cheated or lied to than most humans would. Records say of a human who duped a Feylon out of a priceless artefact, who was hunted down, thrown into a vat of liquid gold owned by the Feylon, and then sold for twice the price as the stolen artefact.
Contact with a Feylon is most likely to be with a Datagrabber, the title given to a field researcher of the Feylon. They tend to come armed with some of the Feylon's more militaristic wares, and these can be as varied as the species they obtained them from.
They communicate with non-Feylon through a subtle telepathy - they cause their thoughts to be heard as speech, and usually choose a voice that they like most. When communicating with other Feylon, however, they will rapidly change colour, which seems to bring the point across far faster than telepathy could.
They have a benevolent nature, as far as we know. They have never acted violently unless directly threatened, and will often warn others of impeding danger. They even advise humans to look away when they begin their colour communication - sometimes this series of flashing colours can induce seizures, even in humans without a photosensitive history.
Now, we move onto the biggest point of all - for reasons that we are unsure of, every Feylon we have ever encountered is a merchant. A merchant of weapons, goods, raw materials, technology, or information. Some specialise in ancient devices, others specialise in espionage devices. Few Feylon commit themselves to one side or the other, in any situation - they are the very definition of neutral. Some may join a side, but most choose to stay out of it, increasing their potential customers by doing so.
Religion
Information on this is sketchy, but we're willing to believe they're either agnostics or atheists. They're scientific and pragmatic in their approaches most of the time. |
