Here we go, the two characters I'm most likely going to play as immediately. I have others, but they can wait.
NAINE'S DESCRIPTION
Name:
Naine
Age:
Unknown and most probably irrelevant, no real scale to compare against.
Description:
Naine is, most basically put, a bottlenosed dolphin in a specialised robot. Naine's biological cetacean form is suspended in a container moulded to his body, containing water with a high oxygen content. Various wires and tubes are connected to sockets painfully and permanently embedded into his flesh, effectively making the robot he is contained in a part and extension of his body. The robot exobody is a blue hue with dark blue stripes, bipedal, has two arms, and a "cockpit" - the only transparent part revealing Naine actually inside the machine. Naine can see from this transparent screen, despite the fact that neural implant feeds from cameras on the exterior of the robot serve just as well.
As Naine would not ever be able to leave the metal shell of his new body extension without fatal damage, his arms and legs can be interchanged with weaponry, and sockets on the the back can be used for weaponry storage.
Abilities:
Although his innate echolocation skills have essentially died with the new form he was forced into, Naine now makes up for that with several small cameras mounted on key points around the exobody, capable of seeing in several different spectrums. So not only does he now have eyes in the back of his head, but eyes that can see the "invisible".
Naine never sleeps - the need for any "sleeping" as a dolphin has now rendered completely unnecessary with neural jacks, implants and chips keeping him ticking.
As he cannot talk conventionally, a voicebox concealed in the front articulates his thoughts in the same way a human articulates their thoughts with larynges.
He has neural sockets on the back of his exobody, allowing him to either "jack in" to a simulated reality, or into someone's mind.
A second mind dwells physically in his exobody in the form of a golden octahedron, and Naine may sometimes permit it to override the exobody's functions.
Species:
Dolphin cyborg
Weaponry:
- Gauss rifle built-in to right arm. Fires controlled bursts of steel fragments. Quick, efficient and comes with an aimer-module, allowing a heads-up display of information to be fed straight into Naine's brain. Not a lot of ammunition, normally.
- Prototype ion cannon built-in to left arm. Takes about a week to recharge. Fires a concentrated beam of assorted negative ions into the air, causing a blue arc of electricity to hit the nearest conductive thing. Best not used amongst metal allies.
- Unidentified blue sphere. Unknown effects, but has "USE IN DIRE SITUATIONS ONLY" written in twenty different languages on. Also has the
phrase "Deus Ex Machina" embedded in gold paint.
- Sockets and interchangeable weapons mean that these weapons aren't Naine's only arsenal. These are just examples. The more weaponry attached, the more cumbersome Naine becomes. It will be stated at Naine's introduction what weaponry he is carrying, and it will be extremely hard for him to change weapons instantaneously, as he will need to be familiar with the weapon and be able to have the weapon plugged into him.
WEAPON SOCKETS:
- Left arm
- Right arm
- Two front sockets
- Two back sockets
- Two shoulder compartments for ammunition storage
History:
Naine is one of the many products of experimentation into biological-mechanical fusion. He remembers very little of his former water-borne life, and his most recent memories up until being placed in a bipedal robot are of "swimming in blue shining water", which he is sure has a profound significance he is unable to place.
Shortly after being merged with his exobody, he was tasked with the obliteration of an alien machine. The Omegalith, an advanced AI system implanted into a large metal body. However, the body of the Omegalith was constructed of millions of tiny units, akin to biological cells,
allowing the Omegalith to rearrange its form as it saw fit. Processing of rock and metal allowed it to rebuild itself. Its intelligence and
regenerative capabilities allowed it to destroy many of Naine's creators' homes and cities.
Naine, along with four others who were killed by the Omegalith, failed to destroy it, and it has since been one of his greatest regrets and fears. This failure to perform his task - his *purpose* - lead to him being forcefully exiled from the world he was "created", and those responsible for this erroneous waste of resources were decommisioned in shame.
He wasn't allowed any form of space ship, and was sent through the atmosphere as he was. Luckily for him, his exobody was airtight, and he was sent by an orbital mass driver (originally meant for the sending and receiving of supplies from colonial planets) out to a randomly chosen unexplored planet. He went into stasis to preserve his dolphin body while flying through the void of space, leaving little time for anger and self-hatred to flare up.
He awoke badly damaged, having landed a few inches away from the peak of a mountain. While this meant he didn't get impaled on the mountain, he ended up smashing down the side of it. With a damaged exobody and shattered morale, he trekked onwards before coming across a bizzare object.
A platform with a golden octahedron. And sockets on the octahedron corresponding to those in his exobody - neural sockets.
After carefully jacking into the sockets, inhibiting current while his exomech's rudimentary AI analysed it, he was surprised to find that the abandoned golden octahedron was a fully cognitive AI. After introducing themselves to each other, Naine explained his story of exile, and
the AI explained that it too had been exiled, previously the brain of a sapient robot tasked with a similiar mission to Naine's original. The AI had piloted a hexapod tank to destroy a device with disturbingly similiar attributes to the Omegalith Naine had faced previously.
After the two realised they had both failed to destroy exactly the same thing, Naine agreed to help the AI fufill their shared goal. The golden octahedron revealed it too was built in a similar fashion to the Omegalith, based on anaylsis of a shard of the "metal" the Omegalith was constructed from. It managed to rearrange itself to enter and store itself near the exotank's built-in rudimentary AI, assimilating its consciousness and replacing it.
There is a gap in Naine's memories as to how he was able to repair himself and leave the planet he was marooned on.
Naine, with the unnamed AI, still search for the Omegalith, much as Ahab searched for Moby Dick. Of course, knowing how long it takes, he's happy to take up the challenges he finds as well, as a way of proving himself.
(Note: There is a gap from this bit to the bit where Striker meets him that lasts about a year, but I can safely say that nothing of any MAJOR importance happens in those three years - just mainly self-training)
-------
STRIKER'S DESCRIPTION
Name:
Striker, AKA Splice-003, AKA "that experiment that escaped from Epsilon Lab"
Age:
Technically, about 7, but she was in a glorified glass bottle for a good 14 years, getting a body and mind and such.
So, a more accurate age would be 21.
Physical Description:
Striker is essentially an anthropomorphic vulpine. On first appearance, anyway. She has blue eyes, with a notable large scar on her left eye, shape similiar to a crescent. Her fur is mainly yellow, white on interior of arms and legs and on the front of her torso, as well as on the end of her tail.
She usually wears a camoflage T-shirt and trousers, but this is purely aesthetic. She has the opinion that if she were to ever require stealth, sight would be the last thing to detect her.
She almost ALWAYS has her trusty katana, spotlessly kept and maintained, either by her side in a belt or in her grip. It has no fancy aura, no gleam of enigma - it is truely just an ordinary katana. The only importance it has is that it was her first actual possession, and has also seen use in every conflict she has been in.
She also has the old Focus Helmet that Neomeme "lent" her. She rarely uses this unless absolutely necessary, but carries it along with her to missions just in case. (For more information on the Focus Helmet, check Weaponry)
Personality Description:
Striker can be cynical and sarcastic at times, sometimes angry at what life has to offer her, and sometimes treasuring every small comfort she has. In rare times of peace, she is cautiously optimistic, enjoying the lack of conflict for however brief the time.
Depending on situations, it seems that Striker has an alternate personality, and in some ways this could be said to be correct. From the moment she made her first kill, she has been able to supress all emotion for the moment, acting impassively and with unnerving persistance. However, this forced emotional block usually has very negative after-effects.
It should be noted that this second emotionless "personality" is usually invoked if Striker chooses to use her radii. (Check abilities for information on what the hell "radii" are)
Addtionally, based on her history, she is instantly distrustful and loathing of any large organisation focusing on the annhilation or other harm to others for their own good (I'm looking at you, Corporation collective), and has a personal phobia of species who feed upon others, and hive minds/collectives, for similiar reasons to her hatred of malevolent organisations.
Abilities:
Due to the immense amount of time invested in the planning and altering of her genome before she even existed, Striker has quite a lot of imbued abilities, not to mention those gained in her turbulent history.
IMBUED:
Agility
- Striker is incredibly agile. With complete concentration she can maneuver complicated series of obstacles in seconds, provided said obstacles are mostly static. It takes a few minutes for her to mentally calculate her path, however. For example, if she's on the roof of a city building, and needs to get down, she can look down and figure out safe points to leap and cling. She wouldn't be able to do this if someone pushed her off first.
Reactions
- One of Neomeme's proudest attributes is that all of its cybernetic soldiers have reactions tenfold to ordinary humans. Striker is no exception, and can react with astounding speed to any stimuli considered a threat or of interest. Of course, just because she can detect and react quickly to stimuli doesn't mean she can reach or attack the stimuli in time. It should be noted also that these reaction times give her deadly accuracy with her katana, as she can detect where the stimuli is at a time frame just before it moves past her. This is the main reason she sticks to melee weapons when so much more advanced weapons are avaliable.
ACQUIRED:
Radii
- Before the concept of radii can be explained, first the concept of "irreality" must be explained.
A realm of pure chaos that can drive those within to the brink of insanity is by no means foreign to the residents of, say, Psychotopia, but irreality is not just a realm - it is an alternate plane or phase of existance. The inhabitants of reality and irreality typically stay put and do not cross over, mainly because most are unable to. However, there are the Defiers, beings who have realised the connections and portals between the two "points-of-view" of the universe, and are able to make their own connections, manipulating their plane through the other one. There are Defiers from both sides - but both can seem alien to their home plane. Defiers are not beings with any heritage or rituals - they are simply ones who know of and exploit these two sides of the universe. Combat between Defiers can have reprecussions throughout both sides, as the amount of energy needed to break the invisible barrier seperating them is quite large. (In case you haven't guessed already, Striker is one of these Defiers)
The abilities a Defier learns or discovers differ, but a fairly common one is the acquisition of "radii". These are invisible "tendrils" that can freely poke between reality and irreality, treating the laws of the universe as guidelines, as opposed to strict rules. However, they have a set "length" and cannot protrude any further from this distance - hence the name, radii. A radius can manipulate objects like an arm, but can also pass through objects discriminatively. Striker often uses her radii to attack several enemies at once. Being a fairly inexperienced Defier, she only has three radii, as opposed to most veteran Defiers having tens if not hundreds of them. Her radii can reach up to three metres from her - in contrast, seasoned Defiers can reach up to miles with theirs.
The radii cannot be harmed through physical means, and must be somehow trapped or bound before any sort of energy or magical means can be used to damage them. The only thing effective on these protrusions is completely severing them - any other damage is regenerated instanteously.
Parasensitivity
- Striker is sensitive to anything "unordinary" happening around here, especially space-time manipulations, and so may act a little oddly in the eyes of others around such circumstances. If the paranormal stimulus/stimuli are quite intensitive her radii can be induced against her will, which could be exploited.
Phasing
- Another one of the many abilities bestowed to a Defier is the ability to shift from reality to irreality, or vice versa. This is often useful for avoiding things on the current plane, but could lead to worse trouble if the Defier phases into another inescapable situation on the other side. Striker uses this rarely, as she has much more deadly adversaries who could attack her on the irreality side. (check history)
Species:
Striker is the only one of her species, but the main material derived for her genome was taken from a keletian (vulpine aliens that have an eerily similiar appearance to Striker save for pelt colour) soldier involved in the Neomeme siege of Keles.
Weaponry:
Her katana, which really doesn't need a description, her radii, which already have a description, and the Focus Helmet. Simply put, it invokes a similar effect to her self-imposed emotional block, but this scrambles her perceptions while she wears it, meaning she can focus even better on the target, and even more objectively, avoiding the downfalls of her own technique.
History:
Striker is the last of three "splicing" projects started, progressed and monitored by Neomeme. She has a long and complicated history, so this will just cover the main events in her life.
NEOMEME
Neomeme was an organistation started around the time Earth hit its technological singularity, and consisted of cyborg soldiers, AI constructs and a "the world is rightfully ours" attitude. They are horrific in their actions, having already caused the genocide of several species deemed lesser. What few remaining humans have not joined Neomeme have fled to other planets.
EPSILON LAB
Striker was created in Epsilon Lab, one of the four main laboratories of Neomeme while it was still waging war for supremacy over Earth. She was the third of a batch of "splicing" projects. While it was referred to as splicing, it was more of a total genome manipulation. Splice-001 died shortly after extraction from its growing tube, and the hippocampine Splice-002 proved to be too much of a success, killing most of its creators and escaping just moments after its extraction.
Neomeme had a history for being bloody-minded, however, and so Striker was created to fill the void of "biological weapon for mass murder that we still control". After numerous slaughters, Striker started exhibiting signs of intense stress and grief - unsurprisingly - and so was put under careful observation and high security while Neomeme sought an answer to this new problem. This came in the form of the Focus Helmet. However, with the clarity of mind the Helmet gave her, she decided to escape the Epsilon Lab - and succeeded, much to Neomeme's chagrin. It was also around this point in time she met 9Ra, the renegade AI Neomeme had abandoned, who proved to be invaluable in gathering Neomeme intelligience.
NAINE
With Neomeme controlling nearly two-thirds of Earth at this point, Striker then decided she needed to leave the planet, without too much consideration of a destination. However, Neomeme was determined not to let their techniques and prototypes fall into enemy hands, and decided to destroy Striker and any traces of Neomeme technology she had on her - namely, the Focus Helmet and 9Ra.
After avoiding several traps, and defeating many clusters of Neomeme's High Elite Fourth Hand, she crossed paths with Naine, stranded on Earth and evading capture by Neomeme for stealing weaponry. After discussing their positions, it was decided that Naine would help Striker escape, as long as Naine was permitted to choose the escape destination. In a desperate situation, Striker had no choice but to agree.
And the two had several more hurdles to cross before eventually commandeering a Neomeme prototype Mindship, casting off the onboard AI pilot and wiring 9Ra into it, ignoring 9Ra's complaints.
BOUNTY HUNTERS
Naine managed to explain his story and background, having recently tried to track down specific places and people, but his craft had been disabled and destroyed when he accidentally trespassed in Neomeme's area of control. Striker empathised with this, having witnessed (and participated in) the retribution to "injustices" against Neomeme. Naine admitted then that he didn't actually have a destination set in mind, and just wanted to get off of Earth as soon as possible.
The two decided that, based on how well they performed together when escaping Earth, they could form a mercenary band. (It is still unclear what exact circumstances actually lead to this decision, as neither Striker or Naine will explain why, and 9Ra, piloting at the time, was the only other witness. 9Ra's only testimony is "Eh, how should I know? I was too busy making sure we didn't fly into a black hole.")
Striker and Naine are often found fighting alongside each other due to this (odd) declaration, and are hirable for a variety of purposes.
(I'm aware how short and possibly badly-written this history is, but Naine and Striker's joint histories could be told in a novel, so I'll reveal important/plot-worthy bits of needs-be)

Haha, Striker sounds like a hybrid of Kumo and Paranesia.
Probably a lot older than both of my concepts, but hey. Great minds think alike. _________________ Shaon Galatea -- Artist | Musician | Radio DJ | Voice Actor | Writer |

I was actively thinking of Kumo as I wrote Striker's description. I kept thinking paranoidly "Oh dear lord there's a character like mine already on here and I'm going to be ACCUSED!". >_>
But rest assured, Striker's been around for a fair time in my mind. I only two minutes ago wrote that description. :/ |

I decided Cirrial as a character finally needed a write-up. He was a little bit of an issue for me, because the potential to god-mode him is existant. However, I've made it so that if he does abuse his powers, there are dire consequences.
Name:
Cirrial
Age:
180, give or take a decade. Doesn't act his age very well, though.
Species:
Melesian water elemental
Description:
Pure water, with a faint blue tinge, flowing to form a humanoid figure. He has no face, a mere outline of a head with a cylindrical 'snout', with two long, snaking ears/attenae swaying in the air above him. Through no apparent means does it seem logical that this water is suspended or supported, but he stays in his form - as solid as ice, with fluid movement. Bubbles and ripples frequently move around his body, but at a pace that makes him seem made of a thick syrup. If you were to touch him, you may either place a hand on a membrane, invisible but strong, or may plunge your hand into cold water.
Cirrial is fairly laid-back, but is dutiful and focused when needs be. He can be very overreactive at times, sometimes for the sheer hell of it. He is up to any challenge, and seeks anything to alleviate the boredom an immortal being can get at times.
Abilities:
Cirrial was a previous Ryftkeeper - meaning that he was in charge of the defense and responsible use of the hyperway-between-worlds, the Ryft. He therefore knows a few tricks about this nexus of everything, and uses it to his advantage.
However, he doesn't use it too often, as he knows about the fatal hazards that can happen if the Ryft itself becomes aware it is being overused.
(NOTE: The more often Cirrial uses a Ryft-based technique, the more likely something bad will happen to him/everyone, so he only uses these things if ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NECESSARY, AS A LAST RESORT. An exception to this is arriving on the field of an RP - he's partial to flashy entrances)
Ryft-shift
- Cirrial can use the Ryft to exit the universe, stage left. Of course, this is a very temporary solution to many problems, as staying too long in the Ryft increases the chances of falling into a matter-pummelling maelstrom, or worse, the essence-draining Serulian Seas. But it's good for dodging an otherwise undodgable attack.
Ryft-hop
- The quickest and most effective way for Cirrial to travel vast distances is to enter the Ryft, pick a likely spot, exit the Ryft and arrive at his intended destination. Years of being a Ryftkeeper come in good for deciding where likely nexus points are, and so Cirrial can travel in mere seconds. However, there are limits to this, and despite his best intentions the process has an element of randomness. (He is also hesitant to travel to places that are remotely dangerous, thusly preventing him from arriving at the main evil guy's secret lab, or the top of the mountain where the bomb is ticking away.. etc. These have to be travelled to more conventionally. There, that should avoid powerplay >_>)
Liquifying
- Cirrial is made of water. If needs be he can disband his solidity and become sapient water, able to flow purposefully. This comes in handy for navigating areas most other entities could not even fit into. However, if he loses a considerable amount of water, he'll have to find a source of water (or any solution with water) to reform into his "normal" solid state.
Aquatic Magic
- Cirrial has a few tricks up his proverbial/lack of sleeves, in the fact that he can summon "dumb water" to his side. He can shape it into small, barely sentient minions, or he can just throw torrents of it at his enemy. The larger the body of water, though, the more effort it takes for him to impose his will upon it. There is no limit to how much water he can manipulate save for time - to control oceans, it would take centuries, and so he doesn't even try.
Weaponry:
Apart from his magic, not a lot. He's adaptable, though, and willing to use anything he has as some sort of weaponry.
History:
Cirrial had a fairly uneventful "awakening", the term given to the process in which a spirit becomes an elemental. He formed in the Mana Pool, a sanctified place in Meles, his home domain. He was given the double-bladed honour of Ryftkeeper, which gave him access to incredibly power and the incredible responsibility of using this power against other incredible powers. After a minor slip-up by him that lead to the destruction of no less than three worlds, he was discharged, but due to his esteemed status and previous accomplishments, he was permitted to still use parts of the Ryft, if it was done in a responsible manner.
He has spent most of his life travelling to other places, and participating in events. (The closest possibly-well-known character I can think to compare against is the Doctor, of Doctor Who fame. >_>) |

Forgot to add this, posting the addendum and sticking it in Striker's section.

Ouch..Parasensitivity? In a world that contains a city that specializes in making bi-directional wormholes?
Ouch...Then add the Gods and spirits that like to run around
Ouch...then add the Relics sending out their siren song to those specialized enough to sense it....Ouch _________________

I'm not denying the former allegation, but I've never even PLAYED Halo 2. I just happen to use the same clichès they all do. X_X
Why? What's in Halo 2 you think I plagiarised from it? |

| Pfft. That concept's been in sci-fi for years. Just because a popular video game has something doesn't mean it made it up. In fact, more than ever now, it's probably going to be the opposite. |

Okay, Protoparagon. Picture soon. If it seems like I ripped the idea off something else, ALRIGHT, I'M SORRY, GET OFF MY BACK.
Name:
Protoparagon
Age:
Information about origins is insufficient - it is unknown when this entity came into being.
Species:
It is severely hoped this is the only one of its "species".
Description:
Its head and torso are transparent glass casings. Its head contains a cubic formation of spheres linked to spheres, and this neural network is its brain. This network connects to five "eyes", set in the glass casing. It links also to two attennae.
There is a single glowing connection, going through the head casing into the torso casing. There, it connects to a dark cyan, perfectly spherical heart. This heart beats at a perfect rate, a full cycle each second. Four tubes extend from the heart to fleshy pods mounted within the glass casing, which produce a cyan spray of warm moisture.
Also connected to the heart are four "air tubes", consisting of four rigid hollow tubes, with flexible scoop-shaped ends. For reasons unknown, the back of Proto's torso is also open, exposing its vulnerable heart to anything willing to dare the likely possibility of being hit by Proto's tail.
This very noticable tail protrudes out of the casing, consisting of five dark cyan, fleshy, swaying tubes, with dagger-sharp tips. The five tail-parts tend to fan out, probing the air.
Detached from the entity are two "hands". They are perfect spheres, with three prehensile digits and several dangling tendrils each. It is theorised that the "mist pods" on the torso allow the detached, unsuspended hands to move and stay alive.
The whole entity floats through methods unknown. Gravity means little to it.
As for its mindset - unfathomable. It operates on an alien logic, displaying no trace of any basic emotion, or any regard for the sanctity of life. It speaks rarely, forms alliences to its conviences, and removes any and all that get in its path. Few who have opposed it in the past have escaped with their lives.
At the core of its mind are the Three Objectives:
| The Three Objectives wrote: |
1. Seek out exceptional life and assimiliate genetic code into self.
2. Produce copies of self upon genetic perfection.
3. Cease all life inferior to self. |
Due to the somewhat ambigous nature of these objectives, Proto can do anything it wants if it can justify it as filling one or more of these objectives.
Abilities/weaponry:
Proto's tail is the source of it's power. It naturally produces a transclucent substance that reacts violently with carbon-based compounds, and the tips of its tail can cut through most metals.
SECRETION
Merely brushing against a victim can cause detrimental effects, but due to constant changes to Proto's genome, its exact effects are as predictable as radioactive decay. It typically corrodes, or can explode upon high-velocity impact. ((Don't worry, if I use this, I won't leave it as a deus-ex-machina - I'll state there and then what it does))
GENETIC ABSORPTION
If Proto can puncture flesh or just get blood on its tail, it can absorb the DNA and assimilate it into its own genome for its advancement. Those it does not require or desire the DNA tend to be ignored by Proto unless they get in its way. If it does get "inferior" genetic material on it, it will simply reject it and wipe the blood/hair/whatever off its tail.
It should be noted that genes can be absorbed from any part of the tail, root or tip, and the best bet is to just stay away from its tail.
The tail splits into five for a more favourable probability of contact.
"EYE" CREATION
Proto can use dead or half-dead organisms' bodies for another purpose. It can inject them, through its tail, with bundles of its genetic material along with specially engineered cell clusters. Using the organic materials of its host, the cells can multiply and form a being Proto refers to as an Eye. Eyes tend to look like little cyan leeches, airborne, and their abilities and extra characteristics depends on both Proto's DNA and their host's DNA/abilities. Eyes are unstable lifeforms and can die without warning, and Eyes created by Proto will continue to have this unreliable characteristic until Proto's genome is perfected.
History
Enigmatic. No-one truely knows what Proto's origins are. Some say it was an experiment gone wrong. Some say it was an ancient life form, or the remainder of a long-dead species. Whatever its history is, Proto will not digress, not just because it does not want, but because it does not care about the past. Proto is always focusing on the present and future, always acting according to the Three Objectives.
Those who hear of Proto's history from Proto themselves have a mixed blessing. On one hand, they are privy to information almost no other being knows. On the other, they're probably going to die soon at Proto's hands/tail, as Proto is not one to let such information travel around lightly. |
