It's been suggested before, but how about a 'Dragons Den' board in the Arctic Tundra specifically for book-based RPs (A 'Dragons of Pern' RP? Lord of the Rings? Narnia? Who knows?)? _________________
Bah, Give me 2 days and a load of napalm...
Perhaps not just just books, but movies, games etc. RPs based on any type of media really.
Our usual RPs are freeform with original characters. I know some people like to RP Harry Potter (shudders) Final Fantasy, LOTR, and other things using pre made characters. Perhaps this would attract more people to the dojo. _________________ I like big cookies and I cannot lie,

More people? Aren't there enough already? *Shrugs*
Nothing personal against pre-made, existing characters and worlds, but I prefer the Dojo's current freeform style. Using someone else's ideas entirely seems, well, constrictive.
I have nothing against existing character models being used (heck, look at Embri. In form she's about 90% Rapidash, though personality/ability wise, she couldn't be more different. ) but I don't think adding world boards will do the Dojo any service. I'm fairly sure there are entire boards dedicated to "book" or "movie" RP's already. Okay, I'm done babbling. Feel free to completely ignore my whole post, if it suits you; just my opinion. _________________

I've got an idea :O
Recently, Psychotopia began working on a 'holograph arena' as they call it, where people, for a small fee of 10 pocky, can enter and have virtual adventures as whatever they wished. _________________ Shaon Galatea -- Artist | Musician | Radio DJ | Voice Actor | Writer |

The biggest reason for doing this is to add a board to the Artic Tundra which is currently 'Unexplored'.
I'd personally like to play a Dragons of Pern RP. You don't need to be constricted by anything if you don't want to be. It's called 'Creative Licence' .
Anyway, there are boards out there that use books as the medium, but I'd never be able to roleplay a miniture Net trying to throw the ring (Along with gollum/fort) into the fires of mount doom would I? _________________
Bah, Give me 2 days and a load of napalm...
Dragons of Pern! (Sallah)
Dragonlance! (Syllak)
X-Men! (Most of the rest of em... Comic book version of course )
I think that's all the boards I've RPed on/characters based on books I've got. Though you'll note I don't use pre-made (i. e. Storm from X-Men etc) but rather make my own _________________ Baker of the radioactive three-eyed flying purple cookie eating brownies!

Imagines a tiny Net trying to heft Fort off the edge of a volcano... "Okay, so maybe that has some possibilities - as long as they're not "strict" RP's where you have to stick to the book, I think it would be fun." _________________

Discworld - whooaa, that's a big one to do. Whooooo, it'd take a lot of careful posting to pull that of, and moderation by all with extreme prejudice! Lol.
I like the idea of an X-Men rpg - and, Swix and I kind of started role playing at the same time (thanks to me - although, she dragged me back to the rp world for gameware at first - damn her! Grrrrr. And now my home is BlackStar)
Anyways, where was I, oh yes, I prefer to create my own characters and evolve them in different tangents via roleplay - cutting and snipping and adding, and gluing so to speak.
Great fun!
As for Dragons - I only know what I see in TV/Films etc... Which don't conform to the general consensus known by those who know what they're actually talking about
As for other ideas, hmmmm:
The DC world is one - but that's more complicated the triple equasion algebra!
Uhm - can't think of many more really - unless you go for one shot rpgs - ie. Take a basic idea from a book - ie. a murder, a theft etc (a bit like CSI really) and give all of the clues someone needs to find, but make them work to find them in character.
And provide a chain of people, linked, or not as the case might be, and make them work on finding what that they need to know.
Kind of, a mystery, with all the answers, you just have to find the answers.
Uhm - yeah, I ramble.... *Has all of the items that were previously around your neck, wrists and in your pockets * _________________ Books are source of knowledge, knowledge source of power, power is source of corruption, corruption is crime.Reading books will get you imprisoned!

I'd warn to be cautious with it. Book based RPs can get pretty intense, especially when there's a whole world contained inside with its own inside mythology and the like. Any moderator would have to be extremely well versed in whatever books/films/etc we were doing, and would have to read every single post. Either that or we scour the internet for someone who knows X-men / Narnia / Harry Potter / The Lord of the Rings/ His Dark Materials/ Star Wars / Star Trek / Stargate / Babylon 5 / Blade Runner / Minority Report / Mad Max / Waterworld inside out to come and moderate for us.
It'd be great if we could do it, but it'd take a lot of work to get it right. _________________ "The tragedy of Canada is that it could have had British culture, French cuisine and American technology. Well, I can provide a synopsis of what a Pern Dragon story would be based on. ((Feel free to ignore this post if you're not interested in dragons. ))
Anne Mcaffery's dragons are the genetically altered descendants of a native dragon-like species found on Pern, called a Fire-Lizard. They were engineered by the colonists who came to the planet Pern as a defensive army of sorts, against a space-borne threat called Thread. Thread is a mindless spore, inert until it hits atmosphere, at which time it becomes dangerous, eating any living tissue, plant or animal, it comes into contact with. It burrows and infests the ground, posing a grave threat.
The dragons of Pern defend their world by charring Thread before it hits the ground. They do this with the help of several abilities they inherited from their Fire-Lizard ancestors; the ability to flame, after chewing up a phosphorus rock known as Firestone, and the ability to go Between - to teleport from one space to another, so long as the dragon has an image of where they are headed. Going Between has inherent dangers; without a clear picture of where they should go, the dragon and it's rider can be lost in transit, never to return. Even more dangerous, some dragons and riders are known to have gone Between times, traveling forward or back in history.
When combined, these abilities make the dragons capable of fighting Thread before it hits the ground, charring it out of the sky. Each dragon is bonded at hatching to a single Rider, their chosen partner for life. The dragon is the one who Chooses, not the future rider. They share a telepathic bond together, though any dragon can "speak" to another of its kind, and humans as well, they generally only talk to their riders.
Pernese dragons are moderately intelligent, though they have very short memories and little initiative on their own. Fiercely protective and loyal, a dragon will suicide by going Between without a destination if their rider is killed. _________________

I think its a good idea.
And it doesn't have to be as restrictive as it might sound. Pern RP's are an excellent example. I've checked out a few Pern MMORPG's before and actually gave up on them because so much had changed as the game developed that I couldn't keep track of it. In addition to creating their own characters instead of using ones in the books over time new holds (aka towns), guilds and organisations had developed. In some people had even 'discovered' entirely new continents.
Of course there were others that stayed strictly within the written story but IMO they weren't as fun. I suppose its just a matter of what you're willing to see changed.
Personally I could deal with...lets say a Pern RP set on a new continent (or unexplored corner of the Southern Continent), or a LOTR RP using fictional characters in a lesser explored area.
But I'd draw the line at something like a new breed of dragons or defeating Valinor. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott
