TROT: Hay guys, I just found a gold nugget. Soon I'll be rich, MMWHAHAHAHA!!
*The ultimate skewering stone arrow finally plunges into Trot's hand. Effectively shattering the nugget to tiny flakes.*
TROT: You know, as much pain and anger I'm going through right now. At least I was the last one to be hit by the arrow.
Trace: Trot, I got the mirror all charged-Huh?
*Although Trace's mirror was indeed ready, however, it targeted Sfot instead of the non-flour cloaked Cirr-shaped hole. The mirror changed the other ingredients, along with the flour coated on Sfot, into unfired dough. Luckily for Sfot, the dough just appeared all around her.*
TROT: Well, one must make the best of their situation. *Wanting to fix Cirr's damages, Trot grasps the huge mound of dough and lifts it over his head. To his amazement, the dough wouldn't harden like it should have. So while trying to tear chunks off himself, he clumsily trips on his feet, and soon he is absorbed in the runaway mass of dough.* AAARRRRGGGGLLLLBLBLBLBLBL!!!
Trace: It ain't my problem.

Keh, you think you're the only one who doesn't always post when they look?

Just check the number of views and compare it to the number of posts. Really, go look.

On a final note, welcome back Seth, it's been a while since I last saw you walk these halls. Smile

Before I go to bed, I might as well put a reply in here. I tried out DexOS today, and it essentially turns your computer into a science fiction themed video game console. I can't get the actual games to work though, I think either because I need a gamepad or due to some kind of keyboard mapping thing I read about.

Wow, Thats quite cool.

Although as cool as it is I fail to see the point of it. What, is it something like a dosbox so I can play Xcom: Ufo Defense? Cuz in that game you like... shoot down UFOs and kill and capture aliens and stuff...

Amazingly enough DLM, some people have different preferences to you. Razz

That said, I'm not even sure what I like, so go uncertainty!

I WAS TALKING ABOUT GAME GENRES.

Good grief, why does your mind always swing to the darkest possible conclusion? There's more to life then that!

DLM, as much as I appreciate your attempts at humor, I think you need to work on your subtlety and discretion a bit Wink. In any case, DexOS is simply an operating system made to resemble a video game console. It's got a main menu that resembles those of modern game systems, and is optimised for speed, written entirely in assembly and small enough to fit on about a quarter of a floppy disk. As far as I'm aware, it has little, in fact probably no compatibility with other systems aside from support of some common file formats. So it's unlikely you'll be able to play DOS games in it, although fortunately there other ways to do that.

The reason I tried it out was because I was having trouble getting one of my computers to work, and at this point the floppy drive was the only thing not annoyingly difficult to impossible to get the computer to boot from. Also, I just like messing with quirky little projects like this.

Now for a short review. Starting it up, there was a short loading sequence before the OS presented me with it's game-inspired menu system. Aside from the selection menu itself, there was a cool logo with a clock on it, and a pair of information tabs telling me my IP address and some number labled "XP build". None of it really needed, but I think it all came together to give the system a very nice feel to it. The first thing I tried out was the media player, which might have been nice if there was some kind of sample media for me to try it out with. As it was, I went on and tried out loading programs form the floppy disk, where I found two programs. One was a neat screensaver with a morphing, rotating shape made of white dots. The other I guess was another screensaver, but it just turned the whole screen white. Most of the other menu options didn't work, but I was able to get to the command line, where I found some more programs. Still not much, a pair of video games, an example of an animated .gif, some visual effect demos, what seems to be only a mock-up of a traditional window system, and I think a couple other things I can't bother remembering. The games didn't even work, with the pong game letting me move my paddle up and down but never starting the game, and the space invaders game not responding to anything, essentially locking the computer up. Also, there was an issue with keyboard mapping due to the program being designed for UK computers that I needed to download an alternate version of the kernel to resolve.

In summary, no, there really isn't much reason to look into it for now. Unless you have an interest in developing video games in assembly language, or working out bugs in operating system written in the same. But if you've got a computer with a floppy disk drive and a spare disk lying around, it's easy enough to just play with for a few minutes, and fun too.

I should probably write up more stuff like this on my Livejournal or something.
