Well since so many others have laid forth their creations for others to see, I think I shall share the few I have made so far as well, Skald's Creatures.
Must say that I have been eagerly awaiting this game since it's first whispers all those years ago, I hope there will be no delays in the release. |

It worries me a little that they're set to be selling Spore t-shirts before the game is even released, but never mind.
When I have a job (and therefore some money) I'll definately have to get this, I've been waiting for Spore for ages and it'll be good to see what even a little bit of it will actually be like. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

The phrase you are looking for is "marketing hype".
Although with me personally being aware of this game for what feels like two years, I've been waiting eagerly for this thing to come out. >_> _________________ This is a signature that states a new signature shall be coming at some point in the future. I would really hate to bump up an old topic, BUT it should be brought up that an expansion is currently in the works. And unlike most of the sims 2 expansions, It doesnt suck (And thus, I think I will buy it!)
I was also going to make a M3GA POST about spore, but seeing this allows me to save my energy. Besides, if you have not played spore then uh... Nothing I can say on this forum besides that the person is probobly an idiot.
I preorderd (And have) the galactic edition |

*happy spaz*
This is great! I love Spore, ever have since... *counts on hand* ...2006, when it was first publicly announced.
My profile is WarrenNoth and though I hate to brag, I have Galactic Edition (Although I wouldn't recommend getting it for those who aren't enthusiasts, as the handbook, dvds and artbook likely would not be worth it for those who don't have a happy seizure at the very thought D: ). I really look forward to viewing your creations!
In conclusion: OMG SPAZ SPAZ SPOOOORRRRE!!! *wheezes and faints* _________________ People can get to be so troublesome.....

Well, from what we've seen of it, Adventures seems to be the next best thing. The Adventures terrain editor is pretty much the same as a planet creator, if still a bit short. The functions essentially do the same, sort of like a space-stage terrain editor DELUXE. Even if the flora editor, planet editor, and aquatic tidbits are neglected, this will still be well worth the time. Also, did anyone else catch the "waterworld" part? Perhaps we will get underwater civilizations after all...
Adventures looks like just what the doctor ordered. I have to agree with drlupinmario - I'll be awaiting the release as well!

And here I thought no one was playing Spore - something about the game not living up to the hype... so yeah, I didn't buy it. _________________

Hmm....
Well the game certinly does promise, and it does deliver, but it really doesnt offer anything past that. This new expansion hopes to change that somewhat I see, or atleast allow us to have a lot of fun creating our own adventures.
The reason the game took so long was because the technology that allows one to create their creatures requires way too much tinkering to get right, or else the animations are all messed up.
I also feel that the game is a bit lacking because of EA's dumb marketing idea of Milking a game with expansions and stuff packs until it bleeds to death and kills itself. Such annoying marketing are annoying as hell, and I not only think, but know that EA is doing the same annoying crap as usual.
I still reccomend buying the game, the editors rock and really, the game is more of a toy, not a super large scale FPS game |

Blac & White taught me not to believe hype about games. I stupidly believed everything they said about that game and was massively dissapointed when it came out.
Since then I've learnt to be a lot more skeptical and to recognise that "this will completely revolutionise gameplay and change everything you ever knew about the genre" really means "This is the same game as all the others you've seen before but with slightly better graphics and some new characters".
Knowing that and therefore knowing Spore would never be as good as promised I was still looking forward to it and I still want to get it now (hit a slight glitch when I discovered my computer would explode and/or kill me if I tried to install it) because it still looks like a lot of fun to play around with.
But then I'm also thinking about getting The Sims 3. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Well, Our buddy Will DID attempt to de-hype the game before its release, but I doupt many people got the memo.
I have to agree with you, Danikat. It is nigh-impossible to revolutionise a game genre anymore, and often times when something does revolutionise it, it really gets overlooked. For theese reasons, Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 do not excite me at all really, and also why I am a fan of many games from previous eras.
Many complaints about spore (When looked and played as a hardcore game instead of what it really is, a very fun software toy) are legitamate. Many of the phases are a bit too shallow or short, and you keep having this feeling that something is missing...
My biggest complaints are that in the RTS/Civilization stage, you cant have more then 1 type of say, tank. And in the space stage, your home planet is constantly harrased by zealots or whatnot until you decide to kick donkey and chew bubble gum, minus the gum part. Really fun and action packed, but after that... It feels empty.
And I personally liked black and white 2, even if it kind of turned into a citybuilder-rts... Armies are something that I really wanted in the first game...
Overall, I do suggest buying spore (Or getting your hands on a illigetiament copy by Clicking HERE lol ) because while its not really a game, it is a very fun toy.
Note: That one link is a rickroll! |

Black and White 2 is a vast improvement, it was the first one I was dissapointed with.
Although it does also help that I went into this knowing that "play any way you want" means "choose to be totally good or totally evil or never finish level 2" and that it's basically an RTS with an odd approach. On the other hand any game that gives me points for dropping rocks on random people will always have some appeal.
Hopefully with Spore the fact that I'm buying it late will have much the same effect - I know what to expect from the finished product rather than what they wish they were making so I won't be looking for it to be any more than it is. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott
