((Uh, Narc's an elemental. He doesn't have any blood. He's made of Light Energy. Also, he's flying.))

"HOLY!" cried Narc, spinning out of the way of the root. This was bad. This was very bad. Some plant thing was trying to kill KC.

He didn't have enough energy to do a light ball. And he wasn't dumb enough to do an Energy Blast at this stage. He did a small Ray in the direction of KC and hoped it gave her enough energy to run away. Then he did another, slightly weaker Ray in the direction of the root, hoping the creature that owned it went by the Dark Element.

If this is the case, how does it affect the rest of the environment? (ie: my main concern, does it eliminate the shadows that HollowEyes is able to hide in?)))

Mortracta slamming down her root had attracted their attention (as a number of them had hoped that she might have crushed something for them), but they were finding Narc to be totally inedible. Whilst this might have seemed like a good thing initially, unfortunately for Narc the cloud of Locusts would prove to be a most annoying swarm of hindrances, and a small number of them were hit by both Rays quite easily. ((Your profile doesn't seem give any details as to what 'Ray' actually does, so please feel free to take control of the Fiends hit to tell me of their fate - pretty much all but the weakest of attacks will kill an individual Locust Fiend, so I'm unlikely to argue with you on that Smile))

Being attacked infuriated the Locust Fiends, making them more aggressive and, consequently, just that much hungrier. Once more they attempted tearing Narc to shreds, and once again they found it to be an impossible task, but they no doubt clouded his vision greatly in their attempts to do so, to the point that he may miss seeing the several Fiends who'd managed to locate the unconscious body of KC.

By a bizarre twist of good fortune, KC had chosen a form so small that it would only provide the average Fiend with a couple of mouthfuls of flesh, and so the several closest to her body were fighting over her. Every time one drew close enough to so much as snap at her, the others would rush in to tackle that one away, so for now, she was safe.

Not for long though. Through years of working with them, HollowEyes had learned to hear the individual shrieks amidst the collective screams of the Locust masses, and was able to pick up on the argument over 'small Felbeast meat'.

"<No arguing! There's still more to eat!>"

Once more, the Parasitian's gravelly snarling command would be heard from within the cavern, and as he didn't want to be pinpointed just yet he quickly moved about. The Fiends seemed uneasy about being forced to share, but several decided that it'd take more time and effort to decide who ate the rat than it would to pursue bigger, more tantalizing prey, and promptly buzzed off to join the other groups. Only two Locusts were left standing over KC to eyeball each other, as though they couldn't even agree on something like who took the first bite.

A group of Fiends noticed Zerrer's presence in the cavern, the sounds of his rough landing on the rocky floor and his boneless wings slapping against his back were enough to attract the attention of a small group almost immediately. They swarmed over to him, eager to snack on the tantalizingly loose flesh coming out of his back (along with the rest of him, of course). They did a marvelous job of blocking HollowEyes' view, as they were covering Zerrer quite thoroughly and prevented him from seeing that the Felbeast leader was moving to attack Mortracta. Zerrer wouldn't find it any easier to attack Mortracta however, as their hungry advances would no doubt prove to be an annoyingly painful hindrance to him.

(Ray is basically what a ray of light would be if it was turned up about 100 times. Imagine getting cooked by being in the sun for three seconds.)

"ARGE, NOOO!" cried Narc, reaching out a crudely shaped arm to bat the locusts away. This would just not do. He could see two locusts eying each other above KC. Curses. She chose a mammalian form.

Narc dove through the crowd of locusts, knowing they couldn't harm him. He was several feet away from KC. He aimed another Ray in her direction, this one weaker that the one he had used against the locusts. It would distract the two locusts above KC, if anything, and KC would receive some light, and hopefully regain consciousness.

((KC, the blood detected by Mortracta was KC11's blood, not Narc's. Everything else was fixed in my post.))

While the Locust Fiends were doing their dirty work and keeping the flying thing busy, Mortracta had come upon KC's ratty form. The lonely flower found it difficult to pinpoint the location of one so small, but she soon decided she didn't have to. Six of her roots broke the surface of the crystalline rocks- one of these would be visibly burned from Zerrer's earlier flame.

And, as if on cue, Zerrer himself could be felt trying to run at Mortracta. She swung two of her roots horizontally at Zerrer's ribs. The two roots were distanced so that should he jump the first, he'd have no time to jump to avoid the second. It was clear that he had been rendered flightless. Should he decide to duck the two roots, she snaked a third underneath him, ready to thrust it upward. It was a good old fashioned two pronged attack.

Just as she performed this attack, she smashed the other four above ground roots down on what she hoped was KC's body. Such an attack should at least paralyze her- if not kill her.

Ah, the benefits of having eighteen limbs!

(It only eliminates the shadows if the felbeasts go very close to it. The sphere of light the rune generates is quite small.)
Zerrer was running when the locusts clouded his vision. He used his limp wing to wave them away just in time to see the root flying his direction. He did a frontflip over it, and saw the second one. He landed with a handstand on the second root and flipped over the second one, landing on his feet. After standing there a moment to catch his breath, He continued on.

((Cool, thanks for clearing that up.))

The two Locust Fiends had finally decided to just start eating KC's corpse at opposing ends when they were suddenly incinerated by Narc's Ray attack, learning all too late that HollowEyes had been right to advise them not to waste their time arguing over food. The Locust Fiends who'd been swarming Narc were still quite angry with him, but their overwhelming desire to eat pursueded most of them to leave him be and go for something more edible. A small number followed after him however, only just now noticing the unconcious KC, but as Narc had a headstart on them he'd probably reach her before they could.

A dozen or so of the Fiends pursuing Zerrer caught ahold of the limp limb as he thrust it at them, and began to tear off as much of the flesh as they could. Without any bones to support them, Zerrer's wings were really just big flaps of excess skin, and trying to use them to ward off the Locust Fiends was amazingly ineffective (like trying to scare away a hungry dog with a big juicy steak). The rest of the swarm buzzed about fiercely, the danger of Mortracta's roots thrashing about doing very little to deter them, and so the lonely flower wound up pulvarising a fair amount of them without even trying.

For the rest though, their prize was now within their reach. The small amount of time that Zerrer had taken to catch his breath was enough for the cloud of snapping insects to catch up to him, and they resumed their hungry and relentless assault on the unfortunate leader of the Felbeasts.

"NO!" yelled Narc as the four roots of Mortracta reached KC. Two of them managed to slam down on her body. Narc sped up, going as fast as he could without losing his energy.

He finally reached KC. He aimed yet another Ray at her. Then another. Then another.

"Come on... come on...." he said.

KC opened her eyes.

"Wha happened?" she asked. "I can't feel my legs."

"You could have been killed!" yelled Narc.

"Quit the mother talk, alright?" said KC, a little irritated. Narc simply shrugged in a way a ray of light would shrug, and continued aiming rays at KC, hoping that she would regain use of her legs, and soon after her shapeshifting abilities.

((Awesome maneuver, Zerrer. Have to admit, didn't see that one coming Smile ))

Mortracta felt the connection of her roots with KC's body, felt a satisfying snap, then attempted to stab at her to finish the job when she was hit with a Ray from Narc. The lonely flower pulled back her root in pain. She was of no dark element- she had Purity Vale to thank for that- but it still hurt. Mortracta swung a root at the assailant, only to have it pass around and through. The creature wasn't even physical.

Mortracta then diverted her attention to Zerrer, who had performed an acrobatic that was Ensichrys-worthy, but he had completely missed her root directly beneath the rock underneath him. He had touched her root. Mortracta had tasted him. She liked the taste. She wanted him, needed him, hungered for his very soul. The lonely flower then gave herself up to the seemingly boundless rage within her.

She thrust the hard root straight upward in a brown blur, tasting blood of Locust Fiend and Felbeast alike. There was little that could get in her way now. Nine roots broke the surface and every single one of them flew toward the Felbeast leader. Some whipped at him, some stabbed at him, some sought to wrap themselves around him, but all sought to consume him.

Sum hic subsiectre tu! She screamed in her mind, then produced that odd roar that she emitted when such a target was acquired. No one quite knew how she did it, having no lungs of which to speak, but she did it nonetheless.

Zerrer saw what was happening, and grinned.

Zerrer tried talking into his bracer but Holloweyes's cicada charm prevented him from talking. He allowed himself to be pulled into the ground.

The crushing of the roots he could deal with; His armor would hold. There was a possibility of this plant having digestive juices like a Venus fly trap; that was almost no problem.

He could do the most damage to this thing if he released his fire closer to the main trunk. . .
((Here is where I should mention that Zerrer is planning to use the energy he's been gathering since he lost his wings.))

EDIT: I fixed his talking.

((And here is where I should remind you that, thanks to the cicada charm HollowEyes used earlier, Zerrer should find himself unable to speak (check my profile on HollowEyes for details). I should probably also remind you that there are a whole heap of locusts currently eating you just in case you forgot about them (don't go thinking that Mortracta's the only problem you have to deal with Wink).))

The small group of Locust Fiends who'd been following him to KC now descended upon Narc, attempting to get past him so that they could sink their teeth into the juicy meat of the shapeshifter that he was attempting to heal. They were shrieking and snapping furiously at him, as he was all that stood in the way of them and their meal.

The insects who'd found Zerrer's wings didn't leave them, not even in the face of certain doom, for their greed was what drove them to be so senselessly ravenous. In the pursuit of their prey they could show a little restraint and desire for self-preservation, but once they'd tasted the tender flesh and rushing blood their tiny minds went into a kind of frenzied overdrive, during which all they cared about was eating as much as they could.

Those who's fangs only found Zerrer's armour would attempt to avoid Mortracta's attacks, but only until such a time as they could try once again to get a bite out of the Felbeast leader - not eating Mortracta was one thing, but there was no chance in hell that they'd ever give their food up to her, regardless of who she was.

"GAH!" yelled Narc as the locusts battered him. He had, luckily, concentrated his energy enough to take a more solid form, so he shielded KC from the locusts. But it wouldn't be for long.

"KC, you might want to duck your head." said Narc.

"NO! YOU ARE NOT USING A BLAST!" yelled KC. "LAST TIME YOU DID IT, HALF MY SCALES MELTED!"

"WELL, YOU'RE NOT WEARING SCALES NOW, SO YOU'll BE FINE!" shouted Narc.

"Idiot." said KC, and she ducked her head.

Narc concentrated his energy. There was nothing more solid than him at this point. He grew smaller and smaller. The locusts would start seeping through his defenses soon. He had to hurry.

He took in as much light energy as he could find. One might have seen rays of light rushing into him instead of out.

And then, suddenly, there was an explosion of light.

((I just hope this doesn't interfere with whatever plans Zerrer has... or any other Felbeast for that matter. -_-))

((EDIT: Thanks for that Zerrer Smile))

The small group of Locust Fiends that had been trying to get past him gave out their dying screams as they were caught up in Narc's blast, their small group were easily burnt to a crisp by it and quickly crumbled away to nothing. The rest of the Fiends weren't close enough to be killed by it, but the attack surprised a large number of them, and forced many of them to shield or close their eyes. The ones pursuing Zerrer barely noticed it, too busy trying to get around a thrashing plant monster to eat the Felbeast warlord to care about the fact that they were now temporarily blind.

The attack lit up the cave, so much so that it managed to catch HollowEyes unawares, and he fell out of the shadows in a most ungraceful manner. It took him only a second to react to this rather disasterous development, and he quickly ducked behind a large rock formation where the shade was still plentiful.

From where he was crouching he could see that Narc's light was illuminating much of the cavern they were currently in, but as HollowEyes hadn't actually seen the attack he wasn't sure what was going on. For now he remained hidden in the shadows of the rocks, silently hoping that he hadn't just given his position away, for until the light either stopped or remained stable it wouldn't be safe for him to travel about in the shadows.

"NARC...."

Narc's blast continued around the cave.

"YOU...."

Brightly it illuminated the caverns.

"IDIOT!"

Suddenly, the light went out with a resounding snap.

A giant dragon shadow held onto the small ray of light that was now Narc.

"You could have killed yourself if you had continued any longer!" exclaimed KC11. She watched as the left over energy spread a little around the cave, most hitting walls.

"And there's no light here. You're my only source of light energy! And you had to do a BLAST!" exclaimed KC.

"Well, your welcome." said a bitter, high pitched voice from KC's palm.

The shadow glared at Narc.

"Ah well. At least there's no Locusts trying to eat me or anything like that." she said.

She place Narc between her back spine.

"Just hold on, if you have the energy to do so." said KC. "Tell me if you see anything unusual. If you can see anything."

KC walked among the caverns.

Zerrer frowned at the new developments. He could feel that Narc absorbed the rest of the light coming from his rune, eliminating it and removing the light advantage.

~It seems that all of the EC want to eat me~ He thought, feeling the Locusts nibbling at his wings.

Being born down by Mortracta, Zerrer realized he wouldn't have enough ethereal energy to do much damage to her. He decided that his own people's safety was worth less then damaging his enemies. Showing poor leadership, he absorbed the rest of his runes, removing the strength and defense buffs.

Happy with his boost of energy, he estimated that he was as close to Mortracta as he could be without being in danger.

Zerrer focused his white blaze.
He sheathed his sword,
Crossed his arms,
Closed his eyes,
and let go.

White fire burst from every orifice in his body.

The creature sniffed unhappily. For the hundredth time that day it spat out the awful taste of a rival's pheromone. She had been promised her freedom in exchange for their lives, but betwixt the silver tongue of her captors and the compulsion of the pheromones she felt a vague warning signal in some dark recess of her fractured mind. Dismissing it once more, she turned her attentions to the task at hand. She saw vague flashes of light through what remained of her eyes, but she knew better than to trust them. She brushed the diseased remnants of a wing, deciding what to do. She had been informed that a mind-speaker would be present, but she had been given a limited freedom within the fight and by no means was she going to lose it following their orders. Sniffing again, she detected a faint but distinct scent, the odor of an unpollinated flower. Deciding to investigate this, she began crawling towards the source of the smell.

Suddenly, everything went white.

((Can we get any details on this 'White Fire' business? It certainly *looks* cool, but what does it do, exactly? Would it affect the entire arena, or just the area around you?))
