In the final area of Victory Road there's a man standing in front of a doorway. (Enter from the Pokemon League, go down the path and across the bridge and you should be able to see him on the right hand side).
If you talk to him he'll say something about you meeting many pokemon in the future or something like that.
But the point is that he's standing in front of a doorway that presumably leads into another area. I originally assumed this was the entrance to the Battle Island in the North West corner, but I've since found out that's reached by ferry from Snowpoint City.
Several online walk-throughs mention that he's there but they don't say anything about what he's blocking or if/when he moves. So I'm wondering if anyone here knows.

Well just to ruin the fun, it is the route that lead to a very special place, and also try to get your hands on Oak's (package or letter), as it will unlock something so you can find Sonic's friend. Be warned as you may (I'm bad at remembering things) be pairing up with someone to battle people.

After following your instructions I found a distinct lack of man blocking my doorway, and so I wandered on through to find a creepy girl with an Arcanine who insisted that we team up (most likely because the only move her Arcanine seems to know is Helping Hand -_-).
After her is a foggy cave with lots of 2 vs 2 battles that I'm still working my way through, but as always with these teamed-up sections it's good for experience as the girl completely restores your pokemon in between each battle.

Interesting. I'd originally assumed it was something you needed the National Dex to access, and then that idea went out the window when I looked for info on it in online walkthroughs and found nothing. I'd kind of assumed if it was that obvious it'd be mentioned somewhere.
If that's all there is to it I shall investigate later. 
(Incidentally where can I get Oak's Letter? Apparently there's no legitimate way, but as I assume it's one of those things you need to go to an event that will never happen in the UK to get I wouldn't be entirely opposed to illigal ways.)
