Earth Day is the most important holiday of the year. If there were no earth, there would be no other holidays. I win. PROVE ME WRONG.

*chuckles*

Anyway, I hope you remembered our dear planet today, and you don't have to be an eco-freak like me to do it!

I predict that people will forget all about your precious 'Earth Day' once we ditch this miserable blue marble for a sleeker, sexier planet.

But until we do, I guess we'd best celebrate it. I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of the entire planet, after all...

Pfft, the earth is so overrated. That's why I live on Phobos, protecting the innocent Martians from hellish invasions. But I do have to watch out for mighty guys with big, big guns... *Coughdoomcomiccough*

I bet the earth has big guts, rip and tear! *Starts tearing into the earth, but suddenly implodes*

I'd celebrate Earth day.

As it's the only planet we know of that could possibly support us, there's no other viable place for us to live.

... except the one that is eight times the size but with three times the gravity (smallest planet yet discovered, I love New Scientist magazine Very Happy). But I don't think we'd be able to move about very well there, assuming the atmosphere is breathable that is.

And if we could get there...

Since the odds are so against us, I suggest we all decide here and now that Earth pwns and is made of solid gold win.

The Earth is made of solid gold! Quick, to the mining facility.

If the Earth is so awesome and stuff, why the heck are we so happy to mess it all up? D:

Ok, ok. I get the hint. I shall stop mining the Earth's gold.

That's a good question, really. Since I have learned not to impose my eco-freak will on the internets, I shall say only this:

Humans = AIDS

Scarcity of resources and an innate need for satiation of motivating impulses limits us. Thus we consume

Right you are; too right in fact. Unfortunately, the consumption is entirely one-sided. We give nothing back.

((BTW, let's not forget about Diemos!))

Untrue. Waste meterials are returned to the environs from whence they came. SImply the form of said compunds is non-metabolizable by the decomposers of most known ecosystems. The secret is finding market-friendly ways of introducing products with easily degradable materials into consumer preferences. Bottles made of cellulose, mayhaps? Sanitary paper made from non-bleached pulp? Dixie cups made of corn fibres?

Of course, energy acquisition is the primary challenge. Encourage (through tax benefits, perhaps?) the installation of window glass designed with reduced heat loss in mind? Ancillary power generators on houses (solar cells, etc)? Tidal power generation?

The problems are more convoluted than Captain Planet's five-ring solutions, and require delicate manipulation of money-markets, consumer preferences and resource allocation techniques to ensure the aversion of eco-economic buggery.
