The FULL Origins of Goron and Shadow

[Goron40]

((In this I will be referring to Goron as Goron, Forty, and Unit Forty. This is due to the fact that all of the clones are called Goron. The main character is the same person though.))

---Time: Summer, 2396---

Goron's eyes opened and he glanced around at his surroundings. He was in a clear glass container, which was flooded with water. Various tubes were plugged into him, allowing him to breath and such. He scanned the outside of his tube and saw rows upon rows of identical containers, each containing identical looking infants such as himself. Several men walked up and down the rows with clipboards making observations. One of them stopped in front of his and scribbled on his paper:

Unit: 40
Status: Alive
Growth: Nominal

The scientist turned away and continued onto the next tube. Unit number 40 closed his eyes and fell asleep.

---Five Years Later---

Goron's katana plunged into a nearby mech as he fired his laser cannon into the cockpit of another. He jumped clear as both of them exploded. In the five years time that he had been alive, his accelerated growth had caused him to grow into his adolescence, about 12 or 13 biological time.

As he landed he sent out a spray of shuriken, each hitting a separate mech, which disabled them. He shot up to another mech and swung his katana at it. It blocked the blow and returned a punch with its huge metal fist, which Goron rolled around. However, it knocked his sword from his hand. Goron leaped up to the mech's cockpit level and fired his laser cannon.

*CLICK*

"What?! Out of ammo again?!"

He was smashed in the side by the mech and flew about 10 feet to the left. Goron stopped at the feet of another mech with promptly pointed its machine guns at him, ready to fire.

The mech exploded and another unit landed with its sword in hand, in a swish of her long brown hair, 18 turned her head to him and smiled, before taking off to kill another mech. Of course this distracted Goron and caused him to get smashed across the arena by a mech. This particular training session was not going well for him.

The mechs lay in pieces all over the ground, and the members of Squad 2 stood victorious. A voice came on over the loudspeaker:

"Good work today Squad 2. Unit 97 try putting a little more power into your sword swipes. Unit 8 keep a constant knowledge of your surroundings... and Unit 40... try to stay focused!"

Goron smiled sheepishly and exited the arena with the rest of his squad. Eighteen came up to walk beside him.

"Did I distract you, forty?" she asked with a grin.

Goron gave her a sarcastic smile as they walked to the dining hall for their evening rations.

Unit forty stood up on the balcony overlooking the island they lived on, leaning on the railing. He gazed out into the ocean and watched the sun's reflection set on the horizon. It was very relaxing after a day of combat... or a life of combat. Their creators always spoke of the GORONs great purpose, but their descriptions were always very vague. Something about fighting a great army that plagued the Earth in this war. The only army Goron had ever seen was the computerized mech army that they trained on.

Eighteen walked onto the balcony and leaned on the railing next to him.

"Hey forty..."

"Hey."

"Whatca thinkin' bout?"

"I was thinking of what might lie beyond that Ocean."

"Well... the enemy of course."

Forty closed his eyes but didn't move. "Yeah, yeah that's what everyone says... but why don't we just go fight them now? We're ready... our unit alone had no problem with those mechs today."

Eighteen grinned. "We'll get our chance eventually. The creators want us at our fullest potential. Besides, you still seem like you need training." she teased.

Goron rolled his eyes and was silent. The sun had set now, and all was dark. The lights went on in the compound and the "lights out" bell sounded.

Eighteen stood up. "Well... goodnight forty." She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, then walked back to her room. Goron was glad it was dark, his face had turned bright red.

An alarm shocked unit forty from his sleep. The other GORONs in his bunk leaped from their beds and snatched their weapons. Unit forty rolled out of bed and followed suit. He followed the mass of units out into the central assembly area.

One of the drill Sargents stood up on the podium. Laser cannons were firing behind him, at what forty could not see.

"Training is over. Although we know that you are not ready, we have simply run out of time. The enemy approaches. Now is the time to put all you've learned into the real battle field.

They will attack the island in less than 15 minutes. They will breach the compound, and they will try to kill anyone in here. You all are the only soldiers on this island, and thus it is up to you all to defend it."

Excitement and fear ran high through the GORON army. They had never been in a real battle before.

"Units form together and get to your designated posts."

Forty broke off from the main group and ran up onto the main wall, where he ran into his Squad. They stood along the wall. Unit 456 was their leader.

"I don't want any of you to stop fighting unless you can't breathe. You got that? If we are to die here, let history remember Squad 2 of the GORON army."

Forty looked out at the ocean once more. The sun was just rising, and shed light on a massive force. Hundreds of aircraft and hoverboats covered with mechs, tanks, and troops made their way to the island. The first of the forces hit the beach and unloaded. They charged up the slope toward the gates of the compound, firing the entire way.

"Fire!"

The command sounded distant and obscure. Hundreds of red laser bolts shot from the wall into the oncoming army. The assault didn't even seem to slow the charging horde. A giant mech slammed into the gates, causing the whole wall to tremble. Another punch and the gate gave. Enemy forces poured in and were stopped by the few squads that were defending the gates.

Fighters flew overhead firing on the compound. GORONs fell on both sides of Forty. A laser collided with an enemy fighter and caused it to go spinning out of control into the assembly area, where it exploded. Forces continued to arrive from the beach to strengthen the already formidable force.

Goron fired on a tank with his wrist mounted laser cannon, and it connected with its target, but did little damage. The tank turned and blasted a shell right at the wall.

The explosion was deafening. Goron wasn't directly over the part of the wall that was hit, but he was close enough so that he and his entire squad were thrown from the wall. Forty landed hard on the compound side of the wall, near the gate.

Forty charged up some steps and fired down into the crowd that was charging through the gates. Below other GORONs were making use of their shadow powers to dodge the enemies blasts. He saw many of their soldiers fall to the blade of various GORONs. However, his own side were suffering losses as well. A mech peppered a GORON with bullets, and he fell to the ground in a pool of blood.

Another explosion rocked the wall and caused it to cave. Goron had become separated from his squad and rushed to the defense of the new hole. A mech stomped in and fired 5-inch thick shells everywhere. One narrowly missed his head as he slid under the mech and cut its Achilles tendon. The mech crumpled and fell over.

Goron sprung up and decapitated a nearby soldier. As the man fell to the ground, Forty hurled a shuriken into a nearby soldiers forehead. Goron merged into the shadow of a wall, just as a hail of bullets ripped apart the wall behind he had just been.

The Shadow World was chaotic. GORONs ran all over the place jumping through portals in various places. Forty burst from the Shadow realm directly above a tank. He landed on it and shot a soldier with his laser cannon. He took a shuriken and threw it down the tank's main cannon. Goron leapt free and the tank attempted to fire. A fiery explosion ensued, killing anyone within fifty feet.

Goron realized that their were far fewer GORONs alive and more lying on the ground dead, or vaporized by tanks. The few remaining ones signaled a retreat and sprinted for the lab. Forty followed them among heavy fire from mechs and soldiers alike.

As soon as Forty entered the lab they barricaded the door, then stepped back. Forty looked around. Of the five hundred original GORONs, only about twenty remained. Forty spotted Eighteen and jogged over to her.

"Eighteen! You're alive!"

"You too apparently," she said, out of breath.

"Are any of the scientists alive, the drill Sargents, anyone?!"

"Just us here. Everyone else i-"

Eighteen never got to finish. A mech burst through the door, sending it flying across the room. It was immediately followed by more mechs and soldiers. The GORONs threw themselves at the army. Forty and Eighteen launched themselves into the hoard.

Goron brought his head through a soldier's neck, and was covered in blood. He wiped it from his face and continued fighting. Eighteen continued fighting along side him, and a mech fell as she plunged a shuriken into its "head."

A GORON was thrown by Forty's head by a mech. The GORON flew into a wall and fell to the ground. She was dead. Forty twirled his katana and destroyed the mech along with two soldiers.

"We've got to get out of here! We don't stand a chance! We can escape in the portal," Unit 324 yelled.

"Are you kidding?! That thing's still experimental! We could die if we use it!" Forty yelled as he ripped a mech's arm out of its socket.

"How would that be any different than if we stayed and fought?!"

"Good point."

Units 40, 18, 324 and 120 ran from the room and into the lab's time warp generator room. Three-twenty four slid over to the controls and set his katana down. He began to punch buttons in a complicated sequence, as the other three held back the enemy forces. 120 was hit with a mech shell and slid to the back wall, the life gone from him.

"Can we hurry this up?!" Eighteen called.

"It's ready!" 324 called as the portal generator turned blue and the twirling blue mist formed. "Let's go!" he said as he activated the compound's self-destruct sequence.

As 324 ran for the portal a mech broke from between Forty and Eighteen and smashed him into the portal controls. It leveled its arm and filled him with lead.

"Eighteen, let's go!" Forty cried. Eighteen launched herself into the portal.

"I'll see you on the other side Forty," she said as she vanished through the mist. The portal flickered but stayed open. The mech turned its guns at Goron and opened fire. Goron disappeared into the mist just as the portal was destroyed by the mech's bullets.

As Goron passed through the swirling blue warp tunnel, he felt his whole body get a small shock. It didn't especially phase him, and he came out of the other end of the portal into a dense jungle.

He got up off the forest floor and looked around. Notable features were a large orangey plant thing which twitched when he poked it, a tree with a small machine at its base, and an off-yellow colored egg that looked like it had come from the machine.

A crack appeared on the egg and it began to hatch. Goron stood with his blade ready. The top of the egg fell off, and a small green creature with a yellow mohawk poked its head out.

"beh oogle graaaah," was what it said. It crawled up to Goron with a cute walk and sniffed him.

Goron bent over and petted the strange creature. Then he looked about to see where the hell he was. Further examination of the area showed that this was not a jungle, but rather a terrarium attached to a space ship in orbit around a planet. The reptile, which he had learned was called a Grendel, had continued to follow him, uttering nonsensical things like "grndl g beh."

Goron moved through the ship until he came to a teleporter which he decided to activate. It brought him to a different ship. He poked his head through a door leading off from the main HUB and discovered a green area with a food dispenser and elevators. The dispenser shot out a strange star-shaped seed, which the Grendel immediately pounced upon and ate.

The duo descended down the lift. at the bottom he found a bluish screen which the reptile crawled over to and pushed. It lifted it up into the air and surrounded him with a blue light. It startled Goron, but the Grendel seemed to be enjoying it, so Goron calmed himself.

Forty liked this... thing. Some of the Scientists had had pets back at the lab. He had seen that they had named them with real names, not simply unit numbers. Goron decided to name the Grendel after his natural element.

"I shall name thee Shadow," he said as the Grendel returned to the ground.

"Shadow like Goron," the grendel said. Goron had no idea how it knew his name or how it had began speaking something that resembled English. Perhaps there was more to this machine then he thought.

Several minutes and much tinkering with the comms room later, Shadow and Goron stood before another warp. Goron picked up Shadow and smiled at his new friend.

"Shall we?"

"Push portal," Shadow said in agreement.

The pair stepped through the portal, onto new adventures.

((Holy crap... I wasn't aware that I could write that much. If anyone actually reads that I think DP should give them a medal...))

Ok, so where's the medal? That was great! Now I finally know about where Goron came from! I've done a small one about Jester and Speeder, but I think I could make it worthwhile!

Well the only remaining story to tell is what happened between the end of this story and the begining of the EC vs Gameware story. If you recall, I said somthing about being in a dimension with skeleton pirates...

Basically it's the four years that pass between the end of this one and the begining of the Evil Council/Gameware conflict where he grows up.

If I incorporated 18 into the Psychotopian Warp Portal Exploratory Corp and had her randomly show up at the room with the Heart of the Dojo.....
