The Beginning:

Hello, my name is Domino, and this is my story. What I say now may have a bearing on the rest of my life. I have lived by a phrase for most of my life, since I was a child. It’s why I keep my coin with me. It always lets me know. Heads you live, tails you die.

Don’t take offence, that’s not aimed at you, it’s aimed at me. And, several times throughout my life, I’ve flipped my coin in moments where I don’t know what I should do. And so far, it’s always been my time to live.

It’d be easier for me to start from the beginning, from childhood. It’s all a bit boring, so, I’ll skip to the major points, the interesting parts of my life.

I was only young when my father died. He was a popular actor amongst others, but never quite made it to major fame. Partly by choice, he always liked to help independent cinema, and short films. He may have even been one of the most popular small time actors.

Anyway, Mother put me away in boarding school shortly afterwards. I don’t really need to say anymore than the fact that I hated it. She only did it so she could have more free time and find a new ‘bank account’. I never got on with the other girls who always talked about how Daddy had bought them a new exclusive doll, or a rare pony or horse. God, they made me sick. All of them.

It was during boarding school I took my coin. We had just been in Church, and I was looking up at a stained glass window, one depicting Jesus with a halo around his head. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not religious, but I followed his eyes to where they were looking. I may have been wrong, but they were looking down at a collection dish. I stood staring at it, as my class began to leave the Church. My eyes fixated upon a fifty pence coin, and, I picked it up, and flipped it. It was then, I somehow thought of my phrase.

After I finished boarding school, Mother moved us to America, Hollywood to be precise. I’m sure she only wanted to find a rich business man there. She had me enrolled in one of the colleges there. I would have been fine with that, if it didn’t interfere with my martial arts. Especially when she made me join a sorority. Full of preppies, more Daddy’s girls, and bigger b****** than even Toffs can be. It was like a house full of cheerleaders and self-obsessed, surgery enhanced freaks.

When the hazing started was when I really began to make my own choices. I was 18, and wanting to go my own way. The ‘newbies’ which I was one of, were lined across a balcony. One of the heads of this freak show had made us all strip down to our underwear, and was trying to embarrass us all. She finally made her way to me. Some of the other girls had the sniffles. I’d swear the rest of them wanted to see me break apart.

She walked up behind me, “So, what about you Domino?” I turned around to face her and what came out of her mouth next was the most original and individual thing to ever have been said by her, I was, in some ways impressed, “How does it feel having the body of a ten year old boy?”. The audience seriously laughed.

Me, I’d had enough, and I stepped into her space, saying, “Have you had a nose job?” I swear she looked confused, she did that classic wrinkling of the forehead, trying to think, “No, I haven’t…..” That’s when I punched her in the nose. I heard the crack, and, it was the most satisfying noise I’d before in my life. Needless to say, I didn’t last long. I was kicked out of the college five days later. Mother, you could say, was a little upset. I wasn’t, I had more time to do what I wanted, martial arts, and fitness.

Mother had other ideas. She was somewhat a bit of a net-worker. Her contacts got me a job as model. I did it for about 3 months. The fame didn’t interest me, and the fashion was extremely contentious. The other models looked at me, as though I were low-life. I could probably guarantee that I had more class than all of them combined. I was tired and fed up of doing this, and, one of them gave me an excuse to quit.

Rule number one when on the catwalk is to never bump into the other models. Ever. Well, one of them did, just as I was walking off. I stopped, briefly thinking of my coin. It was all I thought about, as I turned around and grabbed her by her shoulder, spinning her around. She looked at me, and was about to slap me. So, I punched her in the nose. The second most satisfying noise I’ve ever heard. Needless to say, I was dropped, and Mother was suitably embarrassed. I think, this time, she got the hint that I wasn’t going to be her golden little girl who runs around with a silver spoon in her mouth.

Out of work, and enjoying my fitness schedule, I’d been jogging in some hill range or something. No-one was ever up there. I needed a break, and I found a tree stump to sit on. Drinking a bottle of water, a newspaper flapped in the breeze, flapping towards me. For some reason, I pulled it out of the air, and, there was an advert. The article was looking for fit healthy people for adventure, Bounty Hunting. I tore the advert out, and stuffed it in my pocket.

I’d completely forgotten about it by the time I got home. Before going to throw my clothes into the laundry basket, I remembered it. Needless to say, the rest of my life started then…………

Bounty Hunting:

Hello, my name is Domino. I suppose your wondering how I got to where I am today. I’ve already explained the majority of my childhood.

I believe I was explaining how I became a bounty hunter. After rescuing the article from my clothing, I waited until the day when the conference was on. Which, fortunately for me, was the next day. I made my way into the city, no, not the glamorous high streets. The city, where the real people live.

I walked into the lobby of some small time hotel. No security guards, just a man at a desk (who was to be a future colleague), expecting ninety nine dollars entrance fee. I wanted this, so I paid up. As I walked, well, strutted (being a model never leaves you) all I got were incessant wolf-whistles and perverted old men staring at me and making lude comments.

I sat down, just as some guy, specialised in bail bonds was explaining how the system works. He gets given money to bail out recently arrested people, for a price. Should said persons not arrive at court for their preliminary or other hearings, the courts pay him to retrieve said persons, by any means necessary. Either way, this guy wins. What an a**hole he was too.

With him, was a guy called Cal. He never told anyone his real name. He was the best bounty hunter in the state. You needed to get someone for a price, you went to him. Anyway, they allowed everyone to take a coffee break, and they went of their separate ways, one to the lavatory, the other back downstairs. I needed to go myself. As I was in there, the alarms went off. I knew they were making a run for it. Luckily, I could slip through my window quite easily, dropping onto a fire escape. Racing down them, jumping of the last part, I dashed around the alleyway and sure enough, a car was speeding my way.

I knelt there, pulling out my knife, which I threw at their windshield, smashing a large piece of it. They skidded to a halt, and Cal, and the reception guy jumped out, who I came to know as Eddie. There was yelling, Cal asked me what the hell I was doing, my answer, “I want to be a bounty hunter. I want to have real fun.” Reluctantly, they eventually accepted, and we became a close family so to speak. I gained the father I never had and the brother you would always need. I think they only used me at first, so that I could lure most of the guys they were tracking down.

It was Cal who introduced me to Betty. Betty is my shotgun. When I first met her, she was dirty and slightly run down. I’d been studying weapons for some time now, and I was getting used to modifying them. I decided to adopt her, and after a few months, I’d modified her so much, she was officially given to me. I wouldn’t want to leave home with out it.

Hello Parasite, Bye Bye Bounty Hunting:

I never did explain when I learnt about my abilities. I learnt I could copy myself when I joined boarding school. They gave me plenty of free time to do what I wanted. When Cal and Eddie learnt about them, they were shocked to say the least. But, we never failed to get who and what we wanted.

I’d been with them for three years when things started to go too fast for our liking. I was twenty one. That’s when I gained this parasite, or, more so, it found me.

Our boss also ran an insurance company and security company. He had contacts all over the place, some in the DVLA, who ran a counterfeit licence scheme. The scheme was partially uncovered by the police who were also monitoring a gang boss. Things were about to get busy. The gang bosses son entered the DVLA centre wanting four fake licences.

Well, to cut a long story short, a security van was stolen. Containing the mob’s money. Our boss offered to find the money and the thieves for a fixed price. The blame was passed onto the gang kids. Whilst Cal, Eddie and myself were instructed to get it all back. Little did we know, the theft was an inside job by the counterfeit runners, who needed the money for an operation for a child.

We were in the dark. We tracked the money and took the finders fee and delivered the money as requested. That’s when everything went wrong. The kids had been killed by the mob bosses when they offered no explanation of the money. In retaliation, the gang sent their numbers to wipe out the mob, with the police zeroing in on all of us.

Cal, Eddie and I managed to escape the building as gun fire erupted between the three parties. We were heading towards a nearby sewer when Eddie was shot in the back. Cal and I made it inside the sewer, but when I stopped to look for Eddie, I lost Cal. I made my own way though it, coming in to some strange chambers.

It was dark and my light wasn’t shining too well. I heard some swirling in the water behind me. There was nothing apart from a few ripples, until something brushed past my leg. I got pulled under the water, and then I don’t remember anything after that, apart from waking up in hospital, Mother out in the corridor talking to a doctor. I tried to move, but was in too much agony to do anything.

I was told about the parasite, and that it was inoperable. Otherwise, the surgery would kill me. All I cared about was that I was hungry, seriously hungry. The doctors knew nothing about it’s effects upon me, how my body would react. They expected me to go in for further tests, but if it was irremovable, I didn’t want to know.

I spent the next few weeks recovering, eating almost my entire body weight in that time, and scanning the newspapers for Cal. He eventually turned up dead, he’d been killed at his home a few days after the complete screw up. I never did speak to any of them again.

Mother’s Whim:

Mother was fed up of me eating so much, and not putting on weight, and not feeling full. One of her friends was a psychic of sorts. I couldn’t help but laugh when she suggested we go see her. I only agreed because it was beginning to stress me out.

We got there, and the house against all odds was completely normal. So was the psychic. She took me into a small room with her and just stood and stared at me. No hocus pocus, just her and I. She touched my head and that’s when I first made contact with my parasite. It told me everything I needed to know.

Before I left, she asked me to give her my coin. How she knew, I’ll never know. She promised I’d get it back one day soon. I didn’t know why she wanted it, I still don’t/ But sure enough, a week later, I got it back, and it was the same old cold as far as I knew. With my coin came a letter, all it said was ‘Fire is a friend right now. Keep your friend close. Easpi thrae… Three times.’

A few months later, strange things began to happen. Things were moving around the house. I kept feeling something brush against me.
I didn’t have any local friends at that time, except for Betty. So when whatever it was appeared before me, it didn’t have a form, just a strange outline. It was coming for me. But one of my copies threw fire at it. I placed my gun over a flame and fired upon it. I remembered the words yelling them three times. Everything went black. I woke up a few hours later. Everything went back to normal, apart from my gun, which I soon learned never needed reloading. If I wanted to fire a new type of round, as long as I could fix it up, my gun would be able to fire it whenever I asked. Saved my life several times.
Never leave home without Betty now.

Anyway, after I got to know this parasite more, I learnt more about it. Apart from where it came from, and what it is exactly. This didn’t solve my hunger problem. So after going through several recipes I made my own (what I like to cook) recipe. Everything a growing girl needs. Vitamins, minerals, other nutrients and plenty of high energy. They are small cubes I like to call ‘Chewies’. I always carry enough for five days travelling. I have to compliment them with proper food mind, but they take away hunger for three hours at a time.

Oh, and my flask I always carry, that never empties either, and much like Betty, I only have to say what I want to drink, and sure enough, it’s there. I learnt soon enough that my gun was imbued with this spirit, but I can’t find out it’s name, where it came from or anything else like that. I’m not one to believe in the supernatural, but, if it’s there, it’s there.
I got my flask from my father. Well, I say I got it from my father, it was his. Before he died, he had his name engraved in it for me. So, when Mother found it for me again, I had a six/six domino engraved on the other side. Makes me feel close to him.

Sorry, I must surely be boring you now. Needless to say, I spent the next two years training myself, becoming physically fit, skilled with various types of weapons. I spent a lot of time running and jogging. This parasite has enhanced everything I originally had to extreme proportions. I kind of like it now, if you don’t count the severe bouts of hunger.

And now, I’m here. In Blackstar. Wherever that is.

Hello, my name is Domino, and I’m up for some fun….
