I am writing a book and need inspiration. I am about halfway through and it's a fantasy book based off of Zerrer. It talks about Zerrer's history and of Toria, the mysterious person Zerrer seems to mention at influential times.

The reason I started this book was because of all the good people of blackstar. I went thinking of this Zerrer's history, and started typing it out. Eventually it got to 20,000 words and now I'm stuck. That's what I've been doing for the past several months. Could anybody help me? Even for writing tips or tricks?

Edit: The reason this topic is named Untitled is because that's the name of my book Wink

Edit2: I am renaming the name of the topic to Feud, for that is the name of my book.

Dunno. I've yet to find anything that works, myself.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to know them too. I'm at about that stage with my own book, I've got a huge writer's block right now.

The way I deal with writers block is to go do something else for a while, gives your brain a rest from thinking of the same thing all the time, even if it's writing in something else. Do something to take your mind off it, play a game, watch a movie, read a book and come back to it after you've cooled down a bit. Works wonders Wink

That's why I haven't posted in New Worlds for a while, but I'm still active in other topics here.

Yeah, I pretty much do what Swix does.

... unfortunately, for me, this usually leads to entirely different stories.

This is also the main reason I don't write books-- Best I can pull off is chapter-by-chapter psuedo-stream-of-concious writing a la Ye Olde Zombie Story.

Hooray for fail attention spans!

But, back on topic... Maybe abuse www.tvtropes.org a bit?

(Warning: That site might ruin TV for you.)

Required elements to make a successful story:

1. Big breasted heroines in scanty armour (but men fully clothed at all times because no one likes to see a man in the nude).

2. A rather suspicious dog or similar animal that makes the reader think it's up to something.

3. The main character must have a cool name like Max Thrust or Fifi McJubblies.

4. To fill a few pages, have a character read out the entire works of Tolkien, Tolstoy, or Dickens.

5. Blomonge is a decent word. Include it.

6. Your character's main motivation for everything should appeal to a primal urge, such as hunger. A quest for pie is always a good read.

7. Include time travel, or some strange mixture where dinosaurs are allowed the useage of laser cannons.

8. A magical tramp should be on hand to guide your hero. Hobos are loveable, informed, and can also bring humour to the proceedings with their drunken ramblings.

9. Don't confuse the reader with complex words. Simplify your language. Instead of "Fantastic", use "Good". For "Frightened", use "Scared". For "Sir, your views on the socio-economic decline of inner city urban areas and its influence upon the musical climate is flawed, at best." use "Ug."

10. Include a free bookmark made of bacon, for extra sales.

Joking aside, it's a bit of a broad subject to ask for ideas and guidance on. My suggestion is that you should read more books for inspiration. If you are looking for story elements then I'm not sure what to recommend; I guess you should look in a similar genre. So in your case, fantasy.

However, if you want a quick lesson in language and how to use it to great effect, read some Stephen Fry. Seriously. His vocabulary is unusual and really conveys an unconventional way of looking at the world. If that makes sense.

Shocked

...

*slowly backs away from Zerrer*

... The least you could do is take a girl out to dinner first XD

But... I take it that that means it helped?

yes, it does. Your suggestion resulted in the story that's posted up in the ampithertre, called Dragonborn.

situation resolved.

"... You wanna go to dinner?" XD
