Nexia Biotechnologies has mixed genes from orb spiders and goats. Yes, Canada has given the world goat-spiders.
...
Good job, guys.

Fascinating. What will they think of next? Spider-pigs? Spider-men? No no, that's just silly... _________________ Not just a future.

One thing that will be interesting is seeing how aracnaphobics react to this.
Personally I can't stand touching spider web even if I know for a fact there isn't a spider anywhere near it, and I'm not even that bad compared to some people.
Judging by my reaction to that article knowing that the webbing actually came from a goat and has never been anywhere near a spider might not help, as silly as that sounds.
But maybe we'll all get used to the idea and it won't bother anyone after a while.
Just hope it works better than Dolly did. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Probably because it's a spider-goat, not a spider pig.
Disappointing that they only altered it to produce silky milk (how the hell is that going to work anyway ), I was really looking forward to seeing some freak of nature stuff here.
Interesting to hear that spiders are too anti-social to farm though, I never knew that. _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

I don't understand why they couldn't just keep them seperated.
Most pet shops keep their spiders stacked in a relatively small space and it's fine because they're in seperate boxes so they can't get to each other. If the boxes had opaque sides they wouldn't even know there were other spiders around.
And aside from that I'd have thought many species would make perfect farming animals, they live in relatively small areas, eat pretty infreqently and freely produce the material they'd be farmed for throughout their lives.
Of course they might get pissed off with their webs being constantly destroyed but as long as they use a species thats not harmful to humans it should be fine. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Those people are quitters! I run a rather successful spider farm.
Well, when I say farm, I mean there's one in my bath, and when I say successful, I mean scary. _________________ I like big cookies and I cannot lie,

Because it really should have been done before now:
Spider-goat, spider-goat,
Does whatever a spider-goat does,
Can he swing from a web,
No he can't,
He's a goat.
Look out!
He is a Spider-goat!
That is all. You may now go about your business. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott
