Updating the Moderators

Alright, I know it's been a while, but I have some things I'd like to see fixed.

First off, we need to update who's still here, and who still wishes to be a mod of a group.

I personally think our mods list is too large, and would prefer to see a small group of mods (small being 5 or 6 people) put in the "Blackstar Council" group, and let that group mod all the boards (except special boards created by users - they can appoint a mod of their choosing to work with the Council).

What do you guys think? Do we have any better ideas?

Sounds good to me, though personally I'm happy just being the Mantis Sensei.

I'm almost completely certain I shouldn't be here. I'm just a subforum moderator for a subforum I requested. Why am I in the council subgroup? o_O

Unless I've been promoted, but given that this seems to have been to faciliate a mass announcement/request, I'm going to assume I've been called in because everyone else with a mod belt has. <_<

Personally, I do think the ratio of moderator to regular user is a little high, and I can remove the mod belt if it'll be misleading to other users. I like the idea of a core group of moderators, though.

It does seem a bit silly to have so many moderators, esspecially when some of us probably don't actually need moderator authority.

The only addition I can think of to DP's suggestion is that style sensi's will need to keep their moderator powers in order to assign new belts. Whether or not that would also entitle them to be part of the council group is debatable though.

As for the first point I'm still happy moderating the Training Dojo as long as everyone else is happy for me to keep doing it. If anyone feels like I'm not doing a good job or can think of someone better then I'd be willing to step down but if not I'm happy to stay.

I think you have been doing a very good job from what I have seen Danikat. I don't really mind DP's idea of a Moderator review either, though like Cirrial, I believed I only really had the moderator status for my part in a subforum.

Truth be told, I just put everyone who was on the staff page into the group.

I'm very pleased with the job you've been doing Danikat, and you'd be one of the first people I'd add to this group of core Mods

There are several forums that are the exception to this. The Training Dojo is one, as the person who moderates that also has to teach people how to RP, not just solve disputes. The Archives is another, as the mod to that as the task of documenting RP's coming into the archive.

Huh. My own forums seem to have died/never gotten started, due to the fact that a) One's for exhibition roleplays from the RP Masters, a notably rather dead group that I lead and b) the Church of Discordia never really got off its feet, due to the fact that it, in itself, is rather elitist, since I would dislike my DEMONs going all over the place and killing people. This makes me sad because it's the home of The Caretaker, one of my favorite characters.

Feel free to exclude me from the list, I don't mind.

Somewhat Bland Tower that Floats (Power Apathy Party)
Corporate HQ (Corporation)
Sanctuary (the Flock)
The Citadel (The Gaurdians)
Corrupted Cave (The EC)
Catacombs (Felbeast Foundation)
Challenge Arena
Coolpikaaa's Space Station

And here is a list of boards that get an exclusive mod set, and the reason why.

For diplomatic reasons - I'm told that they'll start it....sometime!

The leader of the Archives isn't a mod, more than he is a record keeper - one who needs FTP access and alot of time to document old RP's

[*]Training Dojo
Like the archives, the Training Dojo mod isn't a mod, but a teacher. Due to her role as a lower belt Sensei, I'd very much like Danikat to continue working here as long as she wants to.

I forgot I wasn't one for that board.

I wrote DH. Kaz betas it and knows most of the concepts involved with the world a lot better than most.

Hey, sorry for my absence! :O Didn't realize I'd been so long away. My computer got a virus and crashed hard, and I've been busy with the Holidays and the kids being on break. This Monday was their first day back to school, and I have been enjoying the peaceful days again, and forgot I should be headed back here to check and see if anything was happening.

As for Pumpkin patch, It -will- get going sometime. I'm still interested in doing it! Smile

As to being listed as a moderator otherwise, I'm not sure you need me listed as a general mod. Though I'd be happy to moderate anytime it's needed, I don't see it being needed here much. You have a great group DP!

There's an old saying, "Too many chefs spoil the broth." I firmly believe this - having to many people in positions of authority leads to all sorts of nastiness.

Blackstar is growing - slowly yes, but it's still growing. Several mods are no longer here, several more don't feel that their position is worth a moderatorship. So I"m trying to shuffle things around a bit as to keep things running smooth.

To that end, I have offered Danikat, CP, Swix, and 3kul positions on the smaller Blackstar Council. Out of that, Danikat, CP, and Swix have already accepted, and 3kul and I remain in discussions. I'd like to add another person or two to this, but I'm still deciding on who those individuals will be.

I for one do not deserve a position on the smaller Blackstar Council. I look after the Norn Gardens, which, to be frank, does nothing. Ever.

All I have done is sticky one thing. That is it. Being a mod without actual powers shall be fine for me until something happens.

There's my two cents. If you want my 5p then I shall be having a peacful nap of the moon which has life but does nothing about it.

Wow, I didn't even know I was one. But thanks for informing me, I guess, I'd kinda forgotten this place existed.

I agree with DP, there need to be fewer moderators. Especially if by a bizarre turn of events I'm one! Razz

Of course, if there's a good reason I'm a moderator that's another thing. I'd be happy to perform any duties I need to do.
