Added real-human detection to the list, for new registrants.

(Basically asking them a question, if they leave the field blank, or put in some nonsense, they're a spambot.)

Further link spam prevention:

Disallow the entry of URLS in the profile Website field and signatures until an account has at least 20 posts. Prevent accounts from posting URLs in the forum until they have at least 20 posts. This should alleviate the spambot problem as well as the "users who join just to link their site" problem (though the second one hasn't been as much of an issue here as I've seen in other places). Zarath is currently using this method on his forums, and it seems to stop the spambots in their tracks.

Thoughts? This along with human detection or possibly instead of, would be quite useful. (see previous idea of asking for how they found Blackstar).

Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me, addman - as for the news section, it's on the list... but unless you happen to be hiding a crack team of PHP coders in your closet along with Raven's "toybox" and those uber-chocoate cookies that were banned from consumer sale due to reported sugar overdoses, it's going to be a while, until DP gets some free time. That, or I learn PHP. Probably better bet waiting for DP.

I just had an idea.

A Blackstar API.
So people could put their online status, their profile info, etc, on their own sites (with a little bit of PHP or Ruby code I could easily supply (at least once I learn Ruby anyway Wink

)), and also so that people could find out if there are any new posts in a topic without wasting huge amounts of bandwidth.

I would make it a very -low- priority, as e have a whole wishlist to get through first!

Thoughts?
