A concept borrowed from newspapers, you post here for pokemon you want, pokemon you are offering, or a battle you'd like to have. If a person has what you want, or wants what you have, they can contact you and set something up.
Simple enough?
Here's how I'd put it, and incidentally, it's a request to.
"Looking for a Celebi, the lower the level the better"
Basically, try to keep your request informal, and to a couple of lines top.

I've found my snorunt...so NEW AD TIME!
I'm looking for a Celebi and Relacant (sp?) to borrow so that I can search the GTS for them. You will get your pokemon back if you agree to help.

Relicanth? You can catch those on Route 226 by fishing with a Super Rod if you really get stuck.

Looking to trade a Misdrevus (Pearl exclusive) for a Murkrow (Diamond exclusive).
Eventually I'll be trading all Pearl exclusive pokemon for all Diamond exclusive ones but thats the only one I've caught so far.
