I see no diss to me or my methods with anything she has said. So she disagrees with my methods? Who doesn't?
Intyalle, I understand you would want people to face each other of a forum, but you are not going to have people come back unless they feel like part of the community. The method I suggested was just an easy way I've found to foster that community spirit. (not commanded, suggested, she is more than free to ignore it if she chooses) _________________

Leaving aside issues of age/experience/moodiness/favorite-coffee-flavor, etc; there is some real wisdom to DPs advice. When we started playing here DP found/madeup/imported "The Corporation" and we had a fairly major RP against them. There were certainly factions within this war, but it got us started as an online community fighting someone else, rather than starting out fighting amongst ourselves. It sort of unified us as a group.
I would suggest- hear his advice, modify it as works best for your vision of your forums, and good luck. _________________ Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far.

If you're looking for members you might want to try tracking down forums that aren't strictly dedicated to role-play but have a lot of RP going on within them as you're likely to find more people willing to sign up to an RP forum.
Whereas here I imagine you'll find a lot of people in a similar position to me: in an ideal world I'd love to sign up to more RP forums, but my 'real' 'life' (and I use both words hesitantly) is eating up far too much of my time and I have to limit myself to just one, which will of course be the one I'm already a part of.
In short its always easier to sell people something they don't already have. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

I feel your pain Danikat...this "real" "life" is a pain...why can't I just enjoy my virtual non-life? _________________

Nicely put, Dani.
She's perfectly correct - you're better off advertising on sites that have fewer features than yours, not more. Absolutely no offense intended, but Blackstar is a excellent RP forum, already benefiting from over a year of efforts from DP and everyone else. Thus, you're not that likely to get many recruits from the Dojo. It's sort of like being asked to move into a bachelor apartment when you're used to a two story house. More than that.. Blackstar is home. I'd never RP anywhere else.
Mwreh... if any of that sounded rude, please accept my sincere apologies, it wasn't meant to. _________________

And the houses are free either way.
Most of the people here have little free time. I cannot speak for those people. However I can make assumptions about them. I assume with the little chunk of free time which they designate as "RP time"; they spend all of it at Blackstar. Not only because Blackstar is the biggest best and baddest, but because they only have time for one Role Playing site.
Now... what to do while I wait for my laundry to finish... *twiddles thumbs* _________________ ~Goron~

I'm on far too many forums as well, although this is the only role-play one. I think I'm signed up to about 14 that I used to check on a regular basis.
But recently I've had no time. I don't understand it really, I finished uni in May and I'm not working, in theory I should have nothing but free time but somehow all this stuff keeps happening and I'm never able to get around to the things I want to be doing.
Having said that if/when I do get more time (which if my life continues to defy logic will be when I get a job) I'll definately look into your forum. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

I would offer to help you modify your forum, but there are things holding me back, such as:
a)my "real" "life" as a college student is somewhat of a hinderance....I don't have time to finish the projects I'm working on here! Trust me Goron, things will get ugly...they tend to take some pity on Freshman when they start out.
b) my organization of previous mods on my local box is attrocious...instead of just writing the edits needed into a script and letting our modification software do the work, I tend to just modify the files directly when I write a mod...not condusive to sharing. And when I use a mod that isn't my own, I don't keep track of it.
c)You are using a free host that doesn't allow ftp access to the forums and admin access to the tables...two crucial things for any mod.
d)Even though I'm a code monkey extraordanair, my art skills are severaly lacking. If Embri had not come along, I'd fear for the state of Blackstar.
e) Um....moo?
unfortunately, a) also hinders me in joining many forums other than this and what's neccesary. Sorry. _________________

Of course, if you manage to gather up the 100 thou' needed to get yourself a blackstar domain the admins here could probably help you out a little more (am I right admins? Is it easier to do stuff for Blackstar sites?).
Or for a much cheaper slice of Blackstar action, 20 thousand will get you your own little section here. It's not the same as your own forum of course, but you have the bonus of access to all of the sweet stuff we have here at Blackstar, plus the regular traffic that'll be curious to see what your new section is all about (assuming that you let them in of course ).
Nobody likes to think of what Blackstar would look like without Embri's input...
*meanwhile, in an alternate universe where Embri did not make any artistic input*
DP: So... What have you all got for me?
*Addman brings in several pictures of freshly baked cookies*
Addman: Well? Do you love it, or do you love it?
DP: I'd say something about this, but you're probably just going to eat those pictures in a few seconds anyway.
Addman: Oh please, I'm not so predict- *eats the pictures* Alright, well, it's not like anybody else did any better! Look at Fort's, it looks like crap!
Fort: Hey, I worked hard on that!
Net: You just told me that you finished it in less than three minutes, using your feet on the keyboard to draw.
Fort: I also told you to keep that a secret but you didn't seem to remember that so well! Where's yours?
Net: Well I got a good start but then it turned into some non-PG material and wound up on a... different kind of site.
DP: That's it, forget it, I'll just make up a site about what penguins dream of like I always wanted to.
*And so alternate Blackstar Dojo became "Penguin Dreamin's?", and went down in history as the least popular website ever.* _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

Oh yeah, I forgot about that... I get to have a "real" "life" soon.
Can't wait for the freshman year... from the sounds of it, it's gonna be a real blast... _________________ ~Goron~
