Goron vs Yoshi

Goron stepped into the wind-blown stadium. The soft grass slid against his shoes as he slowly exited the gate that had led him from the locker rooms. They hadn't been very good locker rooms either. It was quite possible that DP had been cleaning his feet in there earlier. Ick.

The stadium itself was a simple circle, with grass covering all the but the center. Towards the outside edge, a few trees provided shade and cover. Beyond that were impossibly high walls, with stands at their peak. Goron woefully noted that these stands were empty.

"Figures. I should really get an agent. I'm never going to make any money like this..."

By this time, Goron had reached the center area of the arena, which was mostly dirt padded. He looked around, attempting to get the strategic layout of the land. He wasn't sure who he was up against yet, so forming a plan this early wasn't practical. All he knew about this guy was that which he had read on one of the restroom stalls. Yoshi? The dinosaur?

Goron was most confused.

Yoshimasa walked out onto one of the top stands from a doorway. He held his staff in his left hand, and it carried most of his weight. His billowy gray robe swayed in the wind, revealing several static lumps among the fabric. His right hand produced a candy from one of the folds and he popped it into his mouth "Darn! That's not the way to the arena pit, either! I really wish they'd given me a map...", he scratched his head and looked around, noticing Goron down below, "Hello, there! Do you perchance know how I might get down into the pit? I seem to have a challenge down there!"

Someone called to Goron from the stands.

"Oh joy, a fan. Can't let all this popularity get to my head..."

Being his first fan, Goron felt inclined to listen to him cheer.

"...know how I might get down into the pit? I seem to have a challenge down there!"

With great disapointment, it struck him that he was still a loser.

"Yes, yes... Hold on..."

Goron clambered to the upper branches of one of the trees and stood there, perfectly balanced. The upper wall was still pretty far out of his reach. Too far for a jump. He popped a grenade off his belt and set it down on the tree. As it exploded, he leapt slightly, just to propel himself away from the center of the explosion and certain death.

The destruction of the grenade launched him upward, popping his sheilds, but leaving Goron unharmed. Up he flew, right up to the peak of the wall. He reached out his arm to grab the ledge... and fell short by about 5 feet. Thinking quickly, Goron rammed a shuriken into the stone. He drew another and clambered up the wall in this fashion.

Goron rolled over the top of the wall, right to Yoshi's feet. Breathing heavily, he hefted himself off the ground.

"Well that's how I get up and down..." Goron looked around, still breathing violently, "I suppose if you're someone with fans you would take the elevator," Goron rolled his head to the side to indicate the lift.

[Yoshi]

Yoshimasa watched in amazement as Goron performs his death-defying feats. "Well, you're a funny little guy! Nice performance, though. And seeing as you were down in the pit, I'd fancy a guess that you're my challenger?... or wait.... maybe you're just the cleaner. You aren't the cleaner, are you?"

[Goron40]

"Nope, I'm your challenger," Goron replied, "I'm afraid I haven't been able to hold any janitorial positions since I applied to clean up the mutant chicken stalls..."

Goron shuddered.

"Come now, let's do this!" he said as he sprinted to the elevator and pressed the call button, "Huuuuaaaah! I'm ready!" Goron was pumped.

His excitement quickly disappeared as he watched the screen above the elevator door slowly track the elevators ascent... 1... 2... 3... Goron glanced at his floor number:

"57. Terrific."

[Yoshi]

"Hm... how am I supposed to get down now? I wonder..." Yoshimasa walked over to the portion of the wall which Goron had flown over earlier. He looked down over the edge at the shurikens stuck in the wall and at the half exploded tree. He removed his robe to reveal a gray tunic and pants. Then he jumped, holding the robe above his head to catch the drag.Then the robe caught on two of the shurikens, suspending him in mid air above the charred plant. "That was unexpected!" Yoshimasa dangled there, suspended by the robe. "At least its still holding. I should have thought ahead a bit more." Then the robe ripped. Yoshimasa fell towards the mangled tree. "Oof!" He hit the branch with a thud. "I'm getting too old for this..."

((Sorry if I wasn't clear in that last post... Goron is actually standing on your floor, waiting for the elevator to get there.))

At last the lift bell rung and and the doors opened. Goron snapped out of his stoopor and the excitment returned.

"Huh? Oh yeah!" he sprung forth into the elevator (his opponent had opted not to take the easy way apparently), and turned about, standing in a ready stance, "Time to SPLIT!"

The elevator doors closed and the lift began to descend into the pit.

"Let's rock!" Goron sprang forth from the lift and sprinted over to the center of the arena. Again he spun about and faced his opponent.

"Ok... OLD MAN... show me what you can do," Goron assumed his fighting stance.

[Yoshi]

((Ah, yes. I had a sneaking suspicion something was wrong with my interpretation or the post. Problem is I don't have much experience with elevators, so I would not have inferred the situation.))

"Now, now, you're so hasty! Perhaps we could get to know each other? You seem like a decent enough chap, no need for me to go bloodying you up or anything. No fun in that at all." Yoshimasa removed another candy from his pocket and pops it into his mouth, "These are absolutely delicious little things! You really must try one."

[Goron40]

"B-b-but, but I signed up for this, a-a-and and I wanted to fight someone for practice... I came all the way across the frozen plains to get to this place! I had to drive an open air jeep! It was cold!" Goron stuttered. His left eye developed a small twitch. Regaining control of himself, Goron continued.

"I have nothing against you, and evidentally you have nothing against me. Think of this as a contest between friends. No hard feelings to either of us? Then, after, maybe we can share candy and war stories."

[Yoshi]

"Hahahaha! It was but a jest! You overreact. And you are correct, tis but a contest between friends. And so, it is only fitting that we go through with the contest for the bandying is finished." Yoshimasa raised his staff, pointing it at Goron, and ignited a flash from his hand which traveled along the end of the shaft and was focused at the tip, becoming a concentrated beam of intense light.

Agile, quick, fast... these were words one might describe Goron's speed with. However he was only human. And a beam of light would test the reflexes of anyone. Goron twitched involuntarily, a side effect of the years of GORON training. Simply on instinct, the spasm propelled him to the side, attempting to save his body from the whole of the attack.

And it did... to an extent. The light beam ((I'm going to assume it was damaging)), collided with Goron's shields, causing them to flicker, but stay up. Goron himself rolled to the ground and was back on his feet almost as quickly.

Cautiously, he fell back towards the trees. Fighting such an opponent head on would be deadly. That last blast had nearly drained his shields, and Goron was worried that the next one would hit him square on.

"Manipulator of light, hmm?" Goron mumbled to himself, as he backpedaled toward the relative safety of the small grove, "Well... this should prove most interesting..."

[Yoshi]

((Actually, Yoshi's attacks with light have no possibilities for physical damage. He can manipulate light, that's it. The most light can do is blind you. But, seeing as the flares do represent a large amount of energy, there's still a chance that they would do some damage to Goron's shields, even if they would not have damaged his body.))

Yoshimasa waved his hand high in the air, a blinding flash erupted from his palm engulfing the entire area in bright light. Under cover of this flash, he darted toward Goron's position, wielding his staff like a javelin. "You have seen nothing! And I plan to end this early, I'm eager to speak with my opponent. Mwahahaha!"

"You underestimate me..." Goron said with a sly grin on his face. He had reached the tree. With only an instant before impact, Goron dematerialized into the shadow of the tree.

In the shadow realm, he repositioned himself ever so slightly. Before rematerializing, Goron drew forth three grenades, and pulled the pins in one motion. As he morphed back into the real world, his position had shifted. He was now behind Yoshi.

Goron lobbed the first grenade at his target. The timers on the the others were ticking down quickly, and Goron was still off balance from his first toss. He stumbled, and the remaining two grenades flew out of his hands... but in the wrong direction. Both of them looped over his head and exploded in the center of the arena, creating fairly large craters, but doing no damage to Yoshi.

Hoping that his opponent had been too busy with the first grenade to notice his slip-up, Goron regained his balance and turned to face Yoshi.

"So long as you fight in the shadow of this tree, we fight on my terms."

[Yoshi]

((Your post is physically impossible. Yoshimasa just created a blinding flash of light while under the shadow of the trees. A bright light beneath the previous primary light source would have inverted the shadows causing both Yoshimasa and Goron to be outside of any shadows and actually closer to the epicenter of the primary light source. Therefor, Goron would have had to have been on the opposite side of the tree from Yoshimasa and even then would not have been able to use the shadows to transport himself behind Yoshimasa. Understand?))

((It does not make my post any less impossible. If you'll notice, Goron vanished with "an instant before impact." As I did not specify that this was the impact of the javelin, let's say that was the impact of the light.
