I would like to practice roleplaying here before entering any other area just to get used to the forum-based RP.
I would greatly appritiate it if any moderator or admin would so kindly reply here to run through a practice RP with me. It doesn't really matter to me who. Any listed under general training or shape-shifting (Goliath_Bird_Eater or Panther) in the trainers list would be ok. The character I plan to use for this is a fresh one for me and can change her appearance as well as others'.
If any one of you mods/admins/trainers would reply on this thread to RP with me, that would really help. Thanks! _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.

Well, I'm not listed with the shapeshifting trainers, but I do have a shapeshifter character you could practice with, if you want. _________________

Thanks Micka, that'd be good!
Findabhair was the character I was planning on using. Here's her bio: http://www.blackstardojo.org/viewtopic.php?t=1088. She's not exactly a shape-shifter, but she pretty much has the same power. Melody looks like a good fit for her.
I was hoping to RP in one of the sparing rooms for this. Let Fae play with her powers and such. Anything to practice RPing here at all really.
Why don't you start an RP in the Dojo then I'll have Findabhair enter behind Melody. _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.

((Well, why don't we keep it in this thread, keeps everything together. Keep your dojo clean and all that ))
Melody approached the nearest unoccupied room, and after a moments hesitation, opened the door. The void within began to waver, quickly forming a large, square, multi storied room. The far wall had several windows on it's ground floor, looking out to the forest surrounding the Training Dojo. Much of the left wall was dominated by a large mirror. Perfectly smooth, it reflected the room flawlessly, causing it to look much larger then it truly was.
As she walked in, Melody couldn't help but check herself out in the wall-mirror. Her emerald green eyes took in her current appearance, from her shoulder-length, pale blond hair, to the plain white, sleeveless dress she was wearing. Her pale, very lightly tanned skin added to the appearance of someone who had gone a few rounds with a bucket of bleach, and lost.
Hearing approaching footsteps, she turned towards the open door, and waited. _________________

The front door of the training dojo banged loudly closed. The brisk outside air rushed into the main room, blowing at the back of the intruder. A short statured figure cloaked in a large, dull tan blanket prodded across the wooden floor. It stopped after reaching the large fireplace radiated welcome heat.
The blanket was tossed from the head of the traveler and a richly accented Irish brogue took little heed of its volume, "Gah; ruthless wind's cold enof't bitter me wings straight off! Least this place've some sort'a heat."
Findabhair shed the makeshift cloak which piled on the floor behind her. She shook her head, the short, red tufts of hair slowly recovering from being matted under the blanket. On her back protruded the wings she spoke of which her, in fact, still attached. They streached and fluttered, their rainbow of colors resurging through veins. "Muckle better..."
Findabhair only now looked around at the inside of the lodge. The non-modern look of the wooden structure was very much welcome to Findabhair. Revived from the heat of the fire, she strode away from the mantal to look about more.
When she came to the open door, Findabhair stopped short. Melody was waiting expectantly in the doorway, the tall mirrored & windowed room behind her. The wings at Findabhair's back twitched curiously, "Oh. Dunst see ya thah a'fore. A who be yah?" _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.

((Not bad, not bad at all. There's a few minor spelling mistakes, and a missed word or two (I think) but over all quite good. My advise so far would be to copy-paste your message into word, if available, to try and catch any spelling and/or grammatical mistakes. (Personally, I don't place much faith in Word's idea of good grammar)))
Melody blinked several times, trying to decipher just what had been asked of her. Her experience with accents was surprisingly limited, and it took her a few moments to realise that she was being asked for her name.
"Oh, my name is Melody," she eventually replied. "Pleased to meet you. Would you like to come in?" Moving out of the doorway, she indicated the room within. _________________

((Yeah, I know. The main problem with my writing is my spelling. That's why God invented spell check. I'll be sure to double check my posts more thoroughly though d^_^ ))
Findabhair wavered much the same as Melody. Why did she answer me so? As if she has trouble understanding me..., Findabhair pondered to herself. She looked around Melody to spy the room beyond her. She wondered what it might be used for.
Turning her head to the welcomer, Findabhair replied, "'Melody'? Lik thah of a song?" A smile accompanied her joke, making light any perceived offence.
Findabhair stepped through the doorway into the large room. Her eyes caught the massive mirror covering one side wall. Looking back was the shorter fairy standing next to this friendly enough woman. The shorter wore baggy, forest-print camo pants and a heavy, full-sleeved shirt. The shirt was far from loose fitting and had two slits cut out in the back through which Findabhair's wings grew.
These wings fluttered before flapping fully. The array of color behind Findabhair blurred and flashed like the wings of a hummingbird. The possessor of the wings softly floated off the floor. She hovered just high enough to let her legs hang relaxed under her. "Beast of a 'ike thah'twa. Damned wind 'n' sheer culd. Cunst ev'n fly at'ah!" Findabhair grumbled as if explaining to Melody why she hovered.
The flying fairy pivoted towards Melody, "Mah name's Findabhair Fae, might yah wan' know." She held her gaze on Melody before again looking around her, "So whah's ah th's 'ere fur?" _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.

((Ahh, very good. No spelling mistakes that I can see. You responded to my post well, reacted to Melody's hesitation in answering. Even added further to Fae's appearance and personality.))
Melody grinned as the fairy walked into the room, "Yeah, something like that." She watched with curiosity as the other's wings fluttered before bursting into full speed flapping, becoming a mere blur of colours attached to the girl's back.
Had Melody's ears been capable of bleeding, they very well might have in response to Fae's grumblings. Even so, Melody found she was becoming accustomed to the girl's accent.
It's windy and cold outside, she can't fly in this weather, so she had to walk. Looking briefly out one of the windows, she could see that yes, it was very windy out. Next came her name, which Melody tried to pronounce silently, and failed, and then an inquiry as to the purpose of the room.
"Well," she started, "this is a training room. There's several here at the lodge. They sorta exist in a separate reality, they reflect the will of whoever is inside." This she demonstrated with the addition of several heating vents along the bottom of one wall. The temperature of the room quickly rose a few degrees, hopefully making it more comfortable for her guest.
"Things have been a bit quiet around here lately, so I came to practice some. I've gotten a bit rusty, see?" She held her arms out slightly, as if indicating her current appearance. "Your welcome to join me, if you'd like." _________________

((Findabhair is pronounced FIN-ah-ver in case you didn't see it in the bio. Just so you know.))
Findabhair whirled around at the added noise of the heater vents that appeared. She stared at them for a moment, Those weren't just there... To herself as much as to Melody, Findabhair asked, "Whah is th's?" Her tone was awed and quiet, "How cuna be thah you cun do th's? I 'ave such p'wer a to makah thah'tis not afore. Change th's 'orld a'so..."
The floating fairy pivoted back towards Melody, "You a' as I? Wit' uh p'wer tah makah 'orld as yah wish?" Then a more sedate look crossed her face, "Or, yah say, room do th's...?"
Melody's comment as to practicing went unheeded by the other in her confusion and ponder about what power Melody possessed truly. Findabhair was obviously out of her element and was willing to learn all she could of this land and its particularities. _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.

((sorry about the delay, been a very busy couple of days for me. Again, nothing to really complain about. Well, except Fae's accent. Sometimes it takes me a couple of read throughs to get what she's saying. But at the same time, I don't want you to stop it, as it adds to her character. Maybe there's a way to tone it down a notch?))
Melody couldn't help but giggle at Fae's reaction.
"No, no," she replied with a grin, "It's just the room, I'm afraid I'm really nothing special at all. Though I have been told otherwise..." she added quietly.
"Your welcome to give it a shot yourself, you just sorta say to yourself what you want, and it'll happen." She watched the fairy, curious to see what she would do. _________________

((Sounds good. I think her accent is a bit overdone to say the least. I'll see about lessening that for ye.))
Findabhair hovered silently in place for a beat after listening to Melody's words. She was very curious about the ways of this world and how it worked. What was just said to her was very interesting especially, since it was so very like her own natural powers.
An absent look glazed over her eyes while Findabhair went into thought. I can change reality a bit on me own. But this lady here -- Melody, her name's Melody -- she say this room we are in can do much the same. But how much? Let's see what it can do for me...
Findabhair's purple eyes snapped back into focus as she emerged back from thought. They shown with a spark of the brain's workings. A thought seen in her eyes, if you will. The urban-style clad fairy flew upwards, the flurry of color powering its possessor more easily than it looked like it should be. Nearly reaching the ceiling of the training room, Findabhair looked down to Melody, "Yah said tah try me own hand at this? Well, 'ere be it!" With that, a neat little smirk formed on Findabhair's lips while she concentrated.
Out of the center of the floor poked a golden metal. The wooden flooring bowed and cracked as something beneath it rose. Soon, a finger was above the surface; then a hand, the arm following it as the structure ascended. A golden statue it was. Resembling the Statue of Liberty, one arm was raised over its head, its palm held flat upwards. When the whole beast stopped moving, the flat palm came to rest right underneath Fae. Findabhair alighted on the surface of gold and walked to the edge of the hand. She deftly collapsed down into a sitting position, her legs dangling over the edge.
The statue was the likeness of Findabhair Fae, clothed in a full-length dress and adorning waist length hair. From her perch, Findabhair looked down at Melody smugly. _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.

((Ahh, much better. Thank you ))
Tilting backwards slightly to keep Fae in sight, Melody watched as the fairy set to work. At first she barely noticed anything, until the cracking and creaking of the nearby floorboards brought her attention back down to ground level. Her view greeted by an enormous golden finger, Melody quickly stepped backwards to avoid being knocked over by the emerging statue.
When the process completed, she walked around the statues base, marveling at the attention to detail. From the fine stitching of the dress, to the wayward strands of hair curling about the statue's face, it was a life-like, larger then life representation of a different looking Findabhair.
"This is incredible! It took me weeks to get this level of detail, and to make it grow out of the ground like that too... amazing." Suddenly, the shapeshifter vanished, reappearing with a faint pop a moment later, perched on one of the statues outstretched fingers.
"That was quite impressive, thank you for showing me," she said, smiling. "Is there anything you'd like to know? I'll bet your full of questions, and not just talent yeah? Ask away, and I'll do my best to answer." _________________

(( OK, that's a good level of Fae's accent to be written. It was a little much before.
(( I do have some questions about Blackstar: the world and how this site operates. It would be much easier for me to simply talk about it OOC
(( First of all, what kind of universe in there in effect here at Blackstar? Is it a planet or a large country called Blackstar? And what kind of place is this? It seems common for the natives to be metahuman...
(( Secondly, I do have some questions about the ways of this site. Namely, what's up with the belts? I don't know how this system works or what its significance is. Could you be so kind as to explain that belt system for me? Chiefly, how does one go about ascending in the apparent belt hierarchy?
(( That's about it for now. Oh, and on the topic of what kind of world Blackstar is: do you know the history of this place? Why and how it is populated with ultra-human beings and why there are yet unexplored wildernesses?
(( Thanks greatly for the help! Thanks also for the great RP you've been so kind as to lead me in. I think I'll be ready to explore some of the more public RP branches of Blackstar with the background information about which I have asked here. ¡Gracias! )) _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.

((Hrmmm... where to start...
(please note: this is mostly conjecture on my behalf. I apologize for any mistakes i may make)
Well, Blackstar is (i believe) a planet, much of which is unexplored. In the grand scheme of things, it is relatively new, having been created/found recently by The newly Ascended God of Insanity, aka, Au'mari, aka, Dau'Pay, aka, TheDarkPyscho, aka, DP as:
1. A safe haven for the city and citizens of Pyschotopia, a highly advanced race of hyper insane humans, created and ruled by DP.
2. Something of a powerbase, a way to prolong the existence of the various gods long enough for DP to see his plans to fruition. (something about freeing spirits I believe)
After relocating the city from its island somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, Earth, an invitation was extended to the various factions and individuals that DP had had contact with, offering a safe haven, and a place to hone their skills.
Now, for a non RP-backstory explanation. Quite simply, DP has set up this site as a new home for the Creatures Roleplaying community. I'm not too sure on the whole history of the community itself, but I do know that it has, over the years, roamed about the various websites and forums dedicated to the Artificial Life series, Creatures. It's a place where we can keep alive our somewhat peculiar RP style, and teach it to others, which leads me to....
Belts! Basically, the belts provide a focus, a way to gauge your skill in this form of freestyle RP. Belt ranks go from:
White - everyone starts out at white belt. This is where your at right now.
Yellow
Red - this is me, I haven't gone any higher, because I'm lazy
after this, they diverge into styles, more on that in a sec.
Green
Blue
Brown
Black - The highest rank, Indicating RP mastery
Now then, styles... there are 7 styles in all, they are intended as general categories of RPing.
Tiger - Mainly uses magical or supernatural abilities to overcome problems.
Mantis - very much like Tigers, this style focuses on weaponry and technology to solve problems.
Spider - team work and co-operation is how spiders work, often weaving complex story lines as they go
Fox - Trickery and misdirection is the name of the game, Foxes use others to achieve their goals.
Monkey - Monkeys prefer the lighter side of life, bringing a hearty chuckle to all with clever and witty use of any situation
Owl - Solitary, Owls are the master of foresight, often working behind the scenes to bring about a favorable outcome.
Chameleon - This is a special style, taken up by those with abilities of at least three of the other styles, and are highly adaptable.
Theres more info about the belts and styles in the wiki, theres a link in the toolbar up the top of each page. Usually, to advance a belt rank, you'd by a talisman and use it, but because the stores are down for the moment, I suggest PM'ing... well, I'm not really sure who handles the plain belts right now, try Embri, include a link to this thread, because I'm fairly sure you'd qualify for a yellow belt.
There, I think thats about it. I can only hope I haven't confused you more. And your very welcome for the RP, 'twas good fun, and a bit of a learning experience for me too. If you've got any more questions, don't be afraid to ask.)) _________________

((Thank you kindly, Micka. The explanation helped as to what Blackstar is. So Psychotopia was moved from an island on Earth onto the planet Blackstar? A planet which was created by DP... Right, then.
I have today sent a PM to Embri asking about plain belts and if she's the one managing that. So I shall wait with baited breath...
Thank you again for the RP. I'm glad I saw Findabhair's accent and fixed that before entering into the more public forums here. I'd never heard her before now.
By the by, what did you mean that you learned something from this RP too? Pray tell, what?
This seems to be the end of this training and it has not been in vain. That was so much fun to write; I can hardly wait to get into storylines elsewhere in Blackstar.
See you around the Dojo, Micka.)) _________________ "That's like dying, too," said Olhado.
