Erm, I'm not sure your "level up" analogy holds up for freeform RP.

We don't have established levels here at the Dojo - your characters become "powerful" by being developed well, by interacting with other characters, and by proving your ability as a RPer to follow the rules, play fair and write great stories.

Basically, stronger characters are tolerated, even welcomed, when used by people who have proven themselves capable of not abusing that kind of power to their own benefit, but who will use it to further the story (whatever story that might be.)

If you take on DLM's characters, you're going to end up with negative "levels", actually, because he said a number of things which didn't exactly put him in anyone's good graces. Not exactly someone I think you want to associate yourself with, now do you?

Should you require any assistance in creating your own original characters, drop by the Training Dojo and Danikat can fix you up with a fellow Dojodian to lend a hand/hoof/tentacle/appendage.

We have eveything from every 'level', be they very weak or stupidly powerful, but we tend to welcome all so long as your RPing is good and you don't powerplay.

And, sometimes the most developed character, the one you use most in RP's is not necessarily the strongest.

If you've looked in the Hall of Records, you'll see my own character page goes up to two, due to the amount of characters I have. If you read through them, you'll see I like to range from not very powerful at all, even very weak in some cases, to very powerful ones like the immortal wolf-creature Lykaios and the dragon, Furnace.

I've used Lykaios once or twice and Furnace a couple times, but I much prefer my weaker characters. Fade is the one I tend to use most often, though I like to alternate a lot. Fade has two inherent powers, and another that involves her Sapphire Dagger. Not very powerful at all, really. Yet she and DM are the most developed.

Just because you're highly developed, doesn't make you powerful.

And just because your powerful it doesn't necessarily mean that you'll have a good experience.

So, I'd suggest making your own character and playing about with that one first, that way you'll be able to gauge your own skill level better and, if you still want to use DLm's chars, whether they will suit your style.

I'm with both of Swix and Net when it comes to character development. I have a number of God characters, but the ones I use mostly, I've purposely limited to what I thought to be original abilities. But when it comes to roleplaying, I do prefer my weaker characters. Why you ask? Because they can't solve every situation with a click of their fingers, by simply waving a hand or chanting some gibberish.

In fact, my weakest character by far, actually has only one half developed ability, and tends to take a real good beating. But I adapt to the roleplay I'm in, as I find it very hard to throw one main character into them all, and actually have a reason for them being there. So, I have plenty to fall back on, (with more being thought of on a regular basis - just ask Swix, I think I have about ten to twenty more characters than her, and she has a lot )

If you need any help with character development, that is creating a character, giving them abilities/powers and skills/specialisations as well as a personality (this is what counts the most a lot of the time), then any number of us are willing to help. And, if you're not confident about roleplaying them, then there are a lot of us, who will roleplay with you to help you find a style that you like.

Just, don't be afraid to ask.

As for levelling, that would make things very complicated in a free-form environment. *Shudders*

And as people have said, or implied, having a strong "high level" character doesn't nessesarily mean anything around here.

I'm sure some people are sick of this being mentioned but Danikat once managed to hold her own in a sword fight against DP. At the time he wasn't a God but he was an extremely powerful spirit with an entire army at his command. Danikat was (and is) a girl with wings and a sharp piece of metal (and a couple of dragons but they were busy at the time).

If that fight had been determined on some kind of Level system or....probably anything but Free-form Danikat would be puree right now. But the way things worked out she was able to hold her own through some creative dodging and it ended in a draw.

Essentially what I'm getting at here is that its not really the strength of your character that matters, its your own creativity and you're ability to take advantage of that character and the situation they're in. And you can't get given that, you have to learn it.

Which is much easier if you have your own character because then you can customise them to suit your personal style, rather than trying to learn to role-play around someone else's character.

Quite frankly, A permaban is for people who have any of the following: Are spambots, Post Girly (Or ... Uh... The opposat of girly) Pictures of the person showing it all (Nudity), Hackers, People who insist on raceist remarks and the like.

DLM, permanent banning is for people who break the rules. OUR rules, not the rules that you think that we should have. You've broken pretty much all of them with your disrespectful crap. Therefore you'll receive a permanent ban.

You show no remorse or forethought in your actions, blindly aggravating your fellow forumgoers with a distinct lack of politesse or courtesy; your contempt and disregard for the very parties who run and maintain this place are noteworthy.
Furthermore, the furtive manner with which you attempted to resume your membership here adds to your list of misdemeanors. The grandiose and empty promises of 'anyone who follows me will be rewarded' further discredit your attempts to maintain credulence.
