EDM vs Goron

((Geeze do I gotta do everything around here? I'm the one accepting the proposal for a duel here, you should make the thread. Either way, you've got to make the first post, to tell me what kind of arena and things like that.))

(( ... I was tired and was trying to convince two other people to join Blackstar, as well as judging yours and GBE's match and discussing the fourway match and the tie-breakers, it was twenty to four in the morning by the time I went to bed. Gimme a break ))

A young girl who couldn't have been anymore than twenty walked into the Arena. Her long black hair glinted in the speckled sunlight that shone through the trees. The Arena was covered in a thick forest, and small, weedy plants covered the ground, taking advantage of any light that they possbly could.

Large, draconic black wings rustled as EDM moved them about uncomfortably. Her bright yellow, slitted eyes slightly glowed as they reflected the light that shone through, her tail twitched and swished as she moved forwards in search of her opponents. EDM's hands flexed, her claws sliding out of their sheathes on the ends of her fingers. She itched for a proper fight, terrorising others weaker than her had its charms but she still enjoyed it when someone put up a good fight.

As she walked her boots crunched in the soft, dry dirt. Her black clothing kept her mostly hidden in the shade, until she came to a small, circular clearing. She figured this must be where they were expected to go.

EDM jammed her hands in her pockets in apparent arrogance as she impatiently waited for her opponent to appear.

Goron watched the girl from the trees. This arena was starting to become commonplace for Goron, even if the terrain was never the same. Why he came here was beyond him, although the thrill of the fight might have had something to do with it.

As he watched, EDM entered a clearing, seemingly waiting for him.

~I am happy to oblige,~ Goron thought, melding his form into the shade that covered the upper branches of the tree he sat in. He vanished into the shadow realm and approached the girl undetected. She was standing in the middle of the clearing, and the shade didn't reach far enough for him to blind-side her. Still, a dramatic entrance was never a bad thing.

He approached her from behind until Goron reached the limit of the shade, nearly 5 feet from her back. As soon as he could go no further, he emerged from the shadow realm.

"Greetings. I suppose you are my opponent," Goron said to her back, "Are you ready to begin?"

EDM jumped slightly and span around, baring her teeth and whipping her clawed hands out of her pockets.

She looked Goron over, and couldn't quite figure out how he'd managed to sneak up on her like that. He hadn't even broken a twig, yet he was a mere five foot away from her.

"Well, well, would you look at the brains on this one? Of course I'm your opponent, who else do you think would be in here?"

Her words overflowed with sarcasm as her bright yellow eyes slightly narrowed, and she opened her wings wide.

"Now why don't we get on with it?"

EDM stated, not waiting for an answer she flapped her wings downwards at the same time as she leapt, the extra lift making her jump high and quickly covering the distance between the two.

EDM's arms were extended outwards, the claws on the ends of her fingers meant to rake across Gorons face and chest as she landed.

Goron's eye twitched slightly. Evil opponents always seemed all to eager to fight. It was a trait that Goron had often used for advantage, and now was the perfect opportunity. Goron backpedaled slightly until so he slightly further from the edge of the shadow.

He then waited until EDM was just short of striking distance, then vanished down into the shadow which he stood on. Goron didn't need to vanish for long, though. As soon as his attacker reached the spot where he had been standing but a moment ago, Goron rematerialized behind her, and swung his elbow at the back of her head, aiming for the knockout point.

EDM landed, her hands slashed thin air as her opponent seemingly disappeared. The momentum from the jump made her have to take a step forwards to stop herself from falling over, but the slight change in stance didn't save her from the surprise attack.

EDM yelled as Gorons elbow squarely struck her on the back of her head, just missing the knock out point but nevertheless causing her a lot of pain.

DM's tail extended outwards as she spun back around to face him, meant to trip him up before he could try that trick again. Fangs still bared in a snarl, EDM looked more angry than anything else.

"There's no such thing as a quick fight these days, is there?" Goron commented, nimbly leaping back to avoid the tail swipe. He landed in the middle of the clearing, then carried his momentum backwards, propelling himself to the other side.

At the far edge of the shadow he touched down once more, then skittered up into the brush of a tree.

"How well can you fight that which you cannot see?" Goron's voice echoed through the hollow. Then from a different tree, behind EDM, "Are you capable of predicting movements of something you cannot sense?"

His voice continued to emenate from different trees around EDM as he shadow-warped between them.

EDM's tail swished about angrily after she'd turned around in time to watch Goron 'melt' into the treeline.

Her head snapped this way and that as Goron's voice emanated from different trees around her. The mutant couldn't figure out how he was doing it, and she was wary of another surprise attack. The mutant moved from the position she'd previously been standing in, bolting away from the voices but further into the trees.

"If it's tricks you want, it's tricks you'll get"

EDM muttered to herself as she came to a halt between two trees, shade and sunlight mixing and mottling the ground around her as she concentrated.

After a short while, two black creatures appeared next to EDM. They looked like they were mere silhouettes, completely black. Their 'shoulders' had large, wings attached to them and their arms had large claws on the ends. They didn't have any legs, as their body tapered out and they simply 'hovered' in the air with unmoving wings. Their heads though consisted of lumps, minus any facial features at all.

A lot more concentration, and the creatures became solid. EDM didn't like that she had to put herself at a disadvantage to use this particular ability of hers, but this guy was getting on her nerves.

"Why don't you fight me properly, or shall I send my pets after you?"

EDM yelled into thin air, a frustrated tone underlying the anger.

Goron slyly materialized a foot or two behind her, less than an arm's length away.

"I have no quarrel with them, miss," he said into her ear with a grin, before melting back into the shadows.

Goron pulled himself out of the shadow realm in a tree top in front of her, taking forth 3 shuriken from his pocket. He could only barely make out her figure through the leaves, so he hoped his antics had been enough to make her turn around.

~Now that I think about it... I don't really have a quarrel with her either...~ Goron thought as he whipped the knives at EDM. He rolled his eyes at this thought...

EDM spun around to face the voice, her arm out in order to claw him, but again Goron was gone.

EDM began to growl, this was frustrating, and not fun at all. It wasn't even a challenge, it was just really one sided.

Her growl was stopped as the shuriken hit her back, one managing to land and embed itself in one of her wings joints.

"Aaaaargh!!"

EDM yelled loudly, as though to let out more than just the pain she was feeling and breaking her concentration. The creatures that she'd spent so much energy creating vanished as though they were never there.

"DAMN YOU!"

She yelled into thin air angrily as she formed several sharp needles in the air around her. They became solid far quicker than the pets, and EDM sent them flying in every possible direction around her.

((Do you want to give this match an extention seeing as we've both left for vacation?))

Goron heard the shrill cry of his opponent, a fair indication that he had hit his mark. Deciding it was safe to look through the leaves, he spread the branches to look at EDM.

Goron almost fell out of his tree with surprise, not only was his foe on her feet, but she still had his shuriken embeded in his back, and was cursing him profusely. A direct hit like that like that concievably should have stunned her at least, but it seemed she had-

Goron was unable to finish his thought, he had been struck in the shoulder, seemingly by an invisible attack. He stifled a cry, unwilling to reveal his position. Upon closer examination, a small needle was seen protruding forth from his shoulder.

Goron removed the needle, stabbing it into the branch that he sat upon. As he did, his hand struck the tree's fruit, a large nut. It was brown in color, and extremely heavy for its size. Forming a plan, Goron took the nut and moved to the far side of the tree. Sitting out of EDM's view, he let loose a pained scream, then dropped the nut to the ground, hoping to decieve his enemy into thinking the needle had dropped him from the tree.

The clone sat once more, hidden in the leaves.

Swix: An interesting change of character for use.


Believability: 9/10 - I’d have assumed that EDM was far more intelligent than she appeared to be in this challenge, and perhaps managed to find a way to give herself an advantage.

Powerplay: -0/-10 - No powerplay that I could see, took hits as they came and reacted fairly.

Personality/Flair: 7/10 - Aside from a bit of growling and anger, I didn’t see much in the way of a character outline for EDM here. Which is a shame, as I’d have liked to have seen more.

Cleverness/Inventiveness: 12/20 - Your attacks were quite basic, and you could have put yourself in a much better position with a bit more of an intelligent use of your powers. I’m not entirely sure where the ‘pets’ came into play either..

Grammar/Spelling: 8/10 - I noticed one or two grammatical errors in places, but no spelling mistakes. The way you wrote about EDM’s sarcasm saved you from getting a lower mark, as it was fairly generic.

Total: 36/50


Goron: Somewhere, sometime, somehow, you’ve vastly improved on your previous match-ups.


Believability: 10/10 - Goron was Goron. One liners, ironic thoughts and humerous tactics as always.

Powerplay: -0/-10 - No powerplay here as you didn’t really overuse anything, and stuck within the realm of your characters abilities and level of intelligence.

Personality/Flair: 10/10 - I found myself laughing at a few of your posts. Goron really shines through like that. If I didn’t know better, somebody wants the monkey style belt. Aside from that, an overall well developed character, keep up the good work, and show us more of Goron.

Cleverness/Inventiveness: 18/20 - I had one idea of what you intended to do with the nut, but then you surprised me by using it in another manner. Which gets you points. Also utilising the shadows as you obviously can and hiding up in trees and such like, and using your enemy against themselves also gets you marks here. I would have like to have a seen a little more hand to hand combat though….Keep that in mind for the future..

Grammar/Spelling: 8/10 - No spelling mistakes and no grammatical errors. Someone is learning, bravo. Also, your writing style shows that you’ve improved a lot. Now lets see some 3kulish posts here… That’s probably the only let down, a lack of detail in places loses you points.
