Keep note of the Windows Office deal. if you're going to be trading info/hooking up with school computers a lot (it's surprising how much you will), having a general file type like that is important. I got Microsoft Office on my model, while everyone else had windows. Not good (I was in the habit of using file types the computers couldn't read and vise versa. Caused quite a headache).
One way around this? Use Lotus. It's what Windows Office is based on, and can be found online free. Apparently as a dig to the company that stole 90% of their program.
_______________
DLM, that was uncalled for. Windows isn't the best program in many aspects, and everyone has a right to a favorite. Note that DP and Fort weren't bashing it in the first place. _________________ If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

My Question: When did I mention anything about a charger being essentially a paperweight.
In fact, when did I mention anything about a charger?
DLM, it suprises me you still post in this thread. Every time you have before, you've only proved how much you still have to learn about computers.
Now I'm not claiming I know everything, but I know a hell of alot about them. Let's review
1: 10+ years experience making a computer (windows or otherwise) do things most people can't even dream about.
2: College Degree in Computer Information Systems.
3: 3 years in the Computer Engineering Program at UAH.
4: My job at Digium, where I (guess what) work on computers, writing up programs to test our products.
Now, I was civil. I didn't mention anything about windows. I have a windows computer. True it shares it's HD with a linux partition, but it's still windows. But I much prefer linux, if for nothing else stability. I've had a linux box up and running for well over a month without having to restart it before, and even then the restart was caused by a power failure,
Now please, stop threatening to flame, because we all know it's an empty threat. You flame, I put your post in the hall of shame. You continue to flame, your banned. And it makes it difficult to undermine the admins if you can't get on the site... _________________

Thank you, everyone!
I got the third model! Although pricey, it will serve me quite well throughout my post secondary education. It runs beautifully quiet, has an amazing display, came with a free printer (after a mail in rebate) and is 100% capable of becoming whatever I need it to be! I'm already trying to password protect it, etc.
My only problem is that it runs off of wireless. I don't have wireless at home. Therefore, I can't register it online, nor any of the software that came with it. I have to wait until Monday for tech support help from our ISP.
Thanks, everyone! Your input was unmatched! _________________ "The tragedy of Canada is that it could have had British culture, French cuisine and American technology. Instead it got American culture, British cuisine and French technology." ~ Oscar Wilde [Source:Uncyclopedia.org] |

Glad to hear you're satisfied Asriel! As far as the wireless problem, does the computer have an ethernet card? Most wireless computers I've run across are capable of using DSL or dialup, and have the wireless besides. _________________ If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

Gasp?! No Wireless support?!
We have failed you, we will all now commit Japanese Samuri Suicide!
It would probably an idea to buy one of those WAN cards for access with cables, or to buy a Wi-Fi if you think wireless support round the home would be good. _________________ I LIVE. |

One thing I would like to warn you about routers is that they are NOT good if you want to host online games on your PC.
Yes Yes, I am well aware of port fowarding, But it has been what... 5 years... And I still dont have a clue how to do it |

It varies from router to router but it's fairly easy to forward the ports of goodness, the ports of goodness demand forwarding or else they get very angry. Seriously, they won't talk to you for weeks! _________________

We shouldn't need to port forward at all. There should either be a 'games mode' button on every router that lets you select a computer to forward every port from or there should be a protocol for computers to requisition ports for full use. At the moment it's needlessly complicated, and relies on more knowledge from the user than there currently is. _________________
Bah, Give me 2 days and a load of napalm...
