Ah, the classic love triangle. Good for TV shows and novels, bad for real people. My condolences, Rin. Hopefully her other interest will turn out to be a bad match, and she'll reconsider your interest? _________________

I'm pretty sure a little thing called 'self-control' can help that though. I heard a story recently about a guy who died at an internet cafe, simply because he didn't eat, sleep or drink anything for days whilst playing an MMORPG. I can honestly never see myself getting to be that way, and I don't think that there's any need to worry that much about it Embri.

Agreed.
I sometimes worry that I'm addicted to forums (theres 9 I visit at least once a day and at least 5 others I'm on every few days).
I'm one of those people who will willingly wake up 15 minutes early so I have time to check in on a couple of forums before I go to work, stuff like that.
On the other hand I don't think it interfears with my real life. No offence to any of you but if someone was to come in here right now and ask if I wanted to go see a movie or something I'd be gone. And tommorow afternoon when I'll have a choice between forums and the beach I'll be choosing the beach. (Ok so I may take my notebook and work on character development for Danikat or the fanfic I'm writing for the CCSF but the point is I won't be at the computer.)
Pretty much the only thing I've given up for the computer is TV. And for some reason I just can't consider that a loss. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Agreed. I'd rather talk to all of you rather than watch yet another "reality" TV series (is there ANYTHING else on these days???) hands down. _________________

I don't have much in the way of MMORPGs but I belive Furcadia counts. Great game with lots of user-created content. And you don't have to fight if you wish! You can just hang out and be free. It's almost like having total freedom!
I used to play runescape, but I started to withdraw from it. Probibly will never be back there again. But I must say that Runescape is preatty fun even if the graphics suck a bit. |

You can do that type of thing in RS too... problem is there are so many idiots in that game... _________________ ~Goron~

UO was the same.
My sister was actually a very sucsessful Blacksmith, and I was an animal tamer/mage.
It was actually a lot of fun, if I needed cash I could go out and collect mounts (horses, these weird reptilian ostriches, llamas, thing like that) and sell them in town. If I wanted something more exciting I'd get myself a strong animal companion and go off in search of places to explore or things to kill.
Now I think about it there were a lot of people on there who were nice, they'd answer questions and give you tips and stuff, or offer to team up with you. Unfortunately there were also a lot of annoying ones. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

I'm surprised no one mentioned Second Life.
That game is so damn awesome. EVERYTHING is user-created.
*pulls up lengthy list*
Let's see...
Ragnarok,
Runescape,
WoW,
Evercrack two (haha only for one day though damn you Lappy),
MU...
I'm currently playing some online ones, Endless and Imperia to be exact. _________________ Shaon Galatea -- Artist | Musician | Radio DJ | Voice Actor | Writer |

I still play Second Life, and I used to play:
Final Fantasy XI (Canceled for the cash, to get SL)
The Realm Online (Canceled for the cash, to get FFXI)
Runescape (Played it for about 4 hours total, decided it was too crap for words and left) |

Wahoo... well, lets see.
It began with Rune scape. Then, I moved on to Ever Quest and when, I got bored with that after two years, I stopped playing things for a while. I randomly be-bopped around for a while in the internet... Looked over Ragnarok and the like, but didn't get it.
A while later, I played other games... Like Kingdom of Loathing, and Kings of Chaos... they aren't really mmorpg or anything, but they're kind of close. You don't really play with other people online, but you can chat with other people and the like while you play the game.
Anywho... then I was introduced to WoW... played that for a while. Got off, and finally got to play Ragnarok. After playing that for a bit, I left it, and played WoW again. For some reason, this time I got really into the game (... it might be because my boyfriend also got it, and I got to play it with him, but who can tell for sure =p) and played for quite a while. During this time, however, I also bought Ultima Online, and proceeded to play that. Then I got a bit bored with Ultima... quit... played WoW again, but more slowly, and with a few other normal video games thrown in on the side. My boyfriend got quite a few levels ahead of me on WoW, which was depresseing, so it disincouraged me to continue playing.
I baby sat over at my brothers house, where he had EQ2. That was fairly interesting, but I didn't get to play often, and things got a bit annoying after a while. Then, I attempted to try Rune Scape again when I was bored... nothing happened well there. I tried EQ again. Bad graphics turned me off (I didn't have the system requirements for the good ones.)
So then, I went back to WoW. I had just started to catch up with my love again, and he was so happy to help me. But then, one day when I tried to play while he was on, I kept getting knocked off, and didn't know why. Finally, I gave up for the day, and tried later.
... Turned out, I was being hacked. The guy hacking me (I don't know how he did it, seeing as how I kept my password secure, didn't log on to any WoW sites with it, and didn't download mods) stole my equipment, my money, deleated my characters, and only after doing that, changed my pass word, so I got to witness him doing it without being able to do anything about it. He was a sick freak...
So, down and dejected and very hurt and upset... I stopped playing WoW for good... it's kind of like playing a video game, and going through it all, getting killed by a boss, and then realizing that you didn't save... And you just don't have the heart to do it all again...
I ended up not getting online for quite a while... and then, I decided to attempt Ragnarok one more time. As a matter of fact, I'm playing right now. It's a pretty good game. I still lead a normal life, and I'm not addicted to anything, even after playing all those games. I may, however, be addicted to the style of the games... but not enough to stay on for weeks at a time, missing school and the like.
Tada.
I'm still trying to figure out how I made this post a long one. >>; _________________

One thing I forgot to mention, UO was actually the birth place of Danielle and where she spent her formative "childhood" years.
Now I think about it its actually had a lot of effect on her personality and stuff. Even when I really adapt her for other games (for instance Morrowind, where she was a Kajjit) she's generally had a smilar 'history' to what I put her through in UO. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott
