Donations now accepted!

Under the advicement and pressure of several of the adult Moderators, as well as my Co-admins Embri and Addman, I have openned up a paypal account to accept Donations from adults towards Blackstar moving to it's own domain name/server.

We are quickly growing, and I don't know how much longer Violet's server will hold this monstar of a forum. My goal is about $16(US) per month, or $192(US) per year, plus whatever cost there are to setup/upkeep the domain name.

If any of you are minors, but still wish to help out, talk to your parents, and please, Don't go making charges on their credit card behind their backs. That could end up costing Blackstar alot more than if you had left well enough alone. And I do mean ALOT!

With this money, I've decided to go ahead and get a month's hosting and the domain registered (so it doesn't get stolen). It is still setting up, which is fine for me, because it's bed time.

Things in the works

Because we have gotten our new domain and hosting, I'll start the process of moving the site, which involves getting a copy of the Database, putting it on the new site, making a complete download of Blackstar to my local system, and reuploading it to the new site. I'll probably shut Blackstar down once I have the database, as to keep new posts from being made that won't transfer. Once done, I'll put a redirection page to the new site, so that if you come here, it will tell you to go to there.

I must thank our Gracious host Violet for his sponsorship of Blackstar during the past few months. He has proven himself invaluable to me, and to the community. Violet, if you ever need a subdomain or email address, just say the word!

Oh, and for those of you wondering where the new home of everyone's favorite RP site will be, I've registered BlackstarDojo.org...coming soon, to a duck near you.

Not sure how long exactly Blackstar might be down for, but if it's too long for your liking and you start getting severe withdrawel symptoms or something, drop by the EC public website to see how HisLordship's doing with the place.

Well, all the files are moved, but I'm running into trouble with the database movement, phpMyAdmin will only import an sql file of 2MB or smaller, and ours is over 30 MB....

So, I'm going to have to do this the hard way....when I have time.

I finally got around to sending my donation earlier. A whopping $5!

Which works out at something like Â£2.60 so I may even be able to afford to do it again sometime.

hey, if you add ADs to the log in screen, the FAQ, places people go to but not really look at, where they aren't so annoying, you might even make more than enough money from the sponsors.. Cool

I don't think it'll come down to that, Zerrer.

Ads are damn annoying, and I know DP is very much against them. I too prefer to see Blackstar remain ad-free.

Our hosting costs are modest, and it will take very little to keep us up and going. So enjoy the new host!

Every time you click on an Ad, it costs the sponsor 50p, according to my Admin teacher.

Now...if we had a small inisgnificant Ad, we could rack up the dosh for Blackstar. Wink

but where i come from, you get money every time someone even sees it. so you could put it above the "Blackstar, Dojo for the art of RP" banner and then every time someone even clicked a single thing, you get 1 or 2 (insert your national "small change" here).

I don't even like the "Donate" button.
