Be it anything from Runescape to Ever-crack, have you ever played an MMORPG (or do you still)? _________________
Bah, Give me 2 days and a load of napalm...
Every now and then I'll play Maple Story, but it gets a little too repetitive sometimes. The thing that annoys me the most is how they make the quests almost impossible for the minimum level required to do them (that and freaking monkeys that hit me with every banana they throw at me ).
For example, I've got this quest where I have to get, like, 50 Golem stones or some crap like that. A Golem has several hundred hit points, and smacks me around for about 100-200 damage (I have around 600hp, so, yeah...). I, with my mighty crossbow, tend to rarely be lucky enough to hit him with double digits (that's going by memory tho, I haven't played for a few months).
Sometimes it's fun though, maybe I'll start playing it for a little while again...
I prefer MMORPGs with a heap of customization though, I won't really go near the ones where you have a whopping four different kinds of swordsmen to choose from, but my computer's too crap to handle the latest and greatest, so I'm stuck somewhere in the middle -_-... |

Ultima Online.
It was a lot of fun and I was good at it but I could never be bothered to put the time in to really get anywhere. Also the server I was on got so overcrowded it was just frustrating. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Absolutely not. *shudders* I've seen far too many people become mere shadows of themselves because of MMRPG's. Nasty things for certain types of personalities; they have the tendancy to take over lives, and I have no desire to find out if I am one of the unlucky ones who would never come out again. _________________

I played EVE Online for a while. It was brilliant, a great idea, fantastic graphics, loved the ships, and you had like 8000+ players on the server at once. Only problem was, you had to be playing like for a couple of hours daily to get the most out of it, and the community weren't too friendly there either. I don't play MMORPGS anymore. _________________ I like big cookies and I cannot lie,

*nods*
You know, I've noticed that, about on-line communities, I mean. Each one's different, for whatever reasons. Some seem to attract the better sorts (Like the CC, and the Dojo), while others I've visited (which shall remain nameless for my own good consience) are the cesspools of humanity, rife with flame wars, (definitely not the friendly RPG type) older board members who pick on every newcomer, n00b and newbie alike, and other nasty stuff. Makes me wonder why they keep coming back, surely there are better places! I know I've found a couple. _________________

Unfortunately that's true, there are some harsh forums out there, though I've never been to them.
Personally, I'll never pick on a n00b who's willing to try. It's the ones who ask things like 'give me free gilz' that rub me the wrong way - people who don't even want to put in any effort shouldn't be there in the first place imo. |

Hurrr, yes. I have met some of those, too. Most annoying, and very difficult to erradicate. I usually pull out my trusty Raidox N00b-be-gone 5500. *Pulls out a six-foot long flamethrower, complete with high pressure water blast and beanbag launcher attachments.* Does the job quite nicely, if you'd ever like to borrow it.
What always peeved me though is that the so called "vetrans" of the board didn't distinguish between N00b's and newbies. Criminal, really. So many potentially good people, driven away by the rotten few. Hopefully they too found a better on-line home. _________________

I've noticed that as well. Theres a lot of things where I avoid the online community because as much as I enjoy the game or whatever I don't get on with the people in the community.
I can't stand forums where people automatically hate newbies. Its always seemed like a quick and easy way to kill off a community to me.
I also have the problem with MMORPGs that I can never be bothered to play for hours each day to get really good at it. I remember being confused on UO by all the people talking about how they reached masters rank in diffrent skills in a day. Then I found out they really meant a day, as in playing for 20 hours or so. I just can't be bothered. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Runescape is what started me off, really loved that game dispite the appaling grafics.
After that moved onto Guildwars, I played that beast every day for about three months (addict, moi)
After that it got supreeeeemley boring, but, after a 6 month break or so I find my self going back to it (why, WHY??). The good thing about it is that it's free after the initial cost of buying the instilation disc/download, so yey!
That's what put me off buying WoW, although have heard so many good things about it, that it has a monthly charge
Although am incresingly tempted to investigate it... _________________

*Ruster's eyes glaze over and she begins to try to walk toward a great black hole with the words 'GUILDWARS FACTIONS' emblazoned over it in large shimmering hypnotic letters. She does not realise that she is being held by Embri, and unfortunatly this results in her feet making nice neat little trenches in the ground under her zomby-fied feet* _________________

I like to play games at my own pace rather than at a pace that someone else has set. Also I can't exactly play games 24/7 now seeing as uni is in the way and the fact is I don't really want to anymore. A few hours every so often is usually enough for me unless I'm stuck on something then I keep going back until I've done it.
I also hate the fact that you have to not only buy the game but spend loads on actually playing the game each month. More games need to be one price and you get unlimited play on it. I suppose they only do a subscription fee so that if someone gets a hold of the game without paying they still get money off you.
Then again the games companies are just too greedy when it comes to money. Actually probably less the developers and more to do with the publisher.
That's enough of my ramblings though. _________________
