Micka couldn't believe his luck, here was, right in front of him, a spambot. He walked up behind it, sword gripped tight, and tapped it on the shoulder. As the bot turned, ready to deliver its pre-programmed speil, he slammed the butt of the swords grip into the spambot's head.

Disoriented, the bot wavered on the spot, still muttering it's nonsense, until Micka delivered a swift kick that sent it sprawling on the ground. Slowly, he brought his sword up, holding it above his head, held with both hands, tip down. Flexing his muscles, Micka brought the sword down, through the bot, and into the ground below, pinning it there until an Admin could deal with it permantly.

...Rightio. Are we going to put a captcha in or what? Or better yet, we could make it so numbers aren't a valid option for new usernames. The majority of usernames are unaffected, and we essentially destroy the spambot presence. Simple.

Not necessarily. It would affect only new usernames, not old ones, and if a person really wanted to have their username include numbers, it's as simple as asking a Mod to make the change.

So in theory that might help, but we have had some Spambots that only use letters in their names. Rolling Eyes

We really need to do as much as we can to stop these spambots. The numbers idea is fairly wasteful: What we need is a captcha, and fast. I personally don't want to see blackstar overrun with these monstrosities. There have been what, three topics in a week? Next thing you know we're on a spam list and we're up to our armpits in viagra ads.
