... that Blackstar is getting too large for one person, immortal or otherwise, to handle. Stop me if I'm wrong but I'd say DP needs help.

Perhaps modship should come with greater responsibilities. Right now our moderators have minimal tasks, such as... well umm... you get the idea. Being a moderator should be a full time job. If DP didn't have to go through every forum or every post, he would have more time to do the whole admin thing.

Perhaps moderators could provide a daily summary of the board they moderate including new topics, continuing old topics, problems, and things that DP should look at. That way DP would have a general summary of the entire site and a much shorter list of topics to visit.

It sounds like a good idea to me, but some of us will have less to do than others. For example, my report compared with say, UncleAsriel's report would drastically differ in workloads, as the only new posts in the Archives are my own, whilst he'd have to deal with nearly every RP in the Dojo.

Well that's just it. Like you say some will be drastically different from others. I suppose having two moderators wouldn't be so bad if it's a really big board hmm?

I was under the impression that moderators already did read every post in their sections. At least thats what I do.
I don't comment on it often, because I see no need to, but I do read everything posted there.

And I don't really see what the reports would achieve. Its already within a moderators authority to deal with power-playing and other rule-breaking issues in their areas and if something like a spam bot comes up we can just tell another admin, Embri for example since she's here most often.

If all the moderators just reported problems to DP then sat back and waited for him to fix it instead of using their authority to solve the problem it'd be making the problem worse, not better.

Edit: Although I do agree that having two mods for the bussiest threads would make life easier for them.

I kind of think Goron's onto something, although I agree with Danikat's note on the fact that just sending DP a load of messages is probaby just a tad bit lazy...

I think if anything, only major issues should be pmed to DP, whilst anything else could and should be discussed amongst the moderators...

I also agree that at least two mods per busy boards should be appointed... That way, one mod won't be over encumbered with everything.... I'm online almost every day, with me not coming on the occasional day or two sometimes... So I'd be happy to offer my services where they'd be required...

I was actually thinking that since Al is leaving, and DP is pretty much the only coder here now for Blackstar, with Embri in second chair so to speak with general forum running, I thought DP would need an additional admin, or at least have more responsibility shared amongst the moderators...

I think we actually need the Sensei's input before we go off creating the system for him . He may be happy with the way things are run currently, and daily reports would only compound problems as he'd have to wade through them all everyday. Give the guy some time off! I mean, we don't even know if he feels swamped with his workload or not.

I thought this is the exact reason he appointed Embri to help with his adminly duties, and so far, she's helped to create store items and medals for other people. I really don't see how any of this will help. If the workload is too much, I assume he'll just appoint another admin to help out, simple delegation as and when it is needed.

Personally, I don't have time to read every single post in the games room, I just try and keep up to date in the most recent threads, and so far I have encountered no problems. I see no need to bother DP with messages telling him how well the Word Association thread is going and who has posted as he most likely has better things to be doing.

I make no secret that Uni is my first priority. And well, that means lots of homework, books, study dates, late nights in computer labs, and more programs due than most people can understand. But I find time for the day to day with blackstar, and the community is so mature that I find that even the mods don't have to spend much time breaking up fights (I brag that the least used feature of my boards is the report post feature).

Now when I say I don't have time to do what I want with Blackstar, I mean code wise. I need to remove Prillian, fix the bugs in the stores, and install a file attachment mod for the archives (your welcome Luke). These are mods I really want to see happen (or unhappen in one case), but as I said, Uni takes a front seat.

So If you guys as the mods feel you need to do more, go ahead. But as far as I see, there are clear horizons ahead.

I meant just as helping him. We're not bombarding his PM box with spam. As you can see, DP's activities mostly concern the coding on the site. However as he still is an admin, I suppose he feels obliged to know what's happening on the site in the forum.

We could help accomplish such a thing through such reports, giving DP more time to... LOOK OUT!

How about Violet? He's a Hacker extraordinaire, supplies us with theis lovely webspace, and could save our sorry rear ends of many different technical woes.

I wouldn't mind having another few mods backing me up in the Wilds. I recall TreeSpirte had several mods per forum when it came to hot topics like RPing and the like. Maybe we could do so here, or at least spread it all out a bit more (Sharing is fun! Yay!)
