Well, as if it were possible, things are getting worse there. Granted normally we try to avoid "The Real World" leaking into our realm, this is difficult to ignore. I think we can all agree that any group going to war is a shame, whether we are muslim, chrisitan, jewish, or athiest.

I ask that if your faith does pray, that you keep this conflict, and both sides involved, in prayer. It's a complex issue, and quiet honestly, we can't sort out who is right and who is wrong...both sides have valid points in this dispute.

So, what do my fellow Dojodians think?

I know of the conflict, but I have seen little media coverage of it as our news broadcasts and papers tend to believe that celebrity gossip is more important than global issues, war, and disasters.

I understand that some Isreli troops went missing, so they launched an all out attack against the Palestinians, is that true? I would like some more information on this matter before I make my comments.

Addman, we have had quite some extensive coverage on television, and there's been a fair amount of coverage in newspapers.

I just haven't managed to sit down and actually figure out everything and listen to the events. But, as far as I know, the Isreli's believe that the Palestinians have some of their people held captive and they want them released or there's threat of nuclear war.

On top of that, the Palestinians refuse to give in to war threats, and want something from the Isreli's or something.

I think that's about right. For more info Addman, google it, or check the BBC website (always full of news Wink )

I'm embaressingly out of touch with this whole conflict.
I've pretty much stopped watching TV over the last year, which unfortuantely includes the news and I keep forgetting to check up on it from other sources.

But from what I have read it seems that a terrorist group captured two Izraeli soldiers and took them into Lebannon, causing the Izraeli army to reatalliate.

Personally I don't hold out much hope for the US contribution to things. Because of the large Jewish population in America they've almost alwyas been pro-Israel in any of the Middle East conflicts and I get the impression Muslims aren't exactly their favourite people right now.

On the other hand some sort of peace keeping force is definately needed since Lebannon seems to be suffering as the battle ground for someone else's war.
Sort of like France in World War I.

I think that the hostage taking events (two separate events, 2 soldiers in Palastinian Gaza, and a second, 3? soldiers in northeran Israel taken by Hezbollah folks from southern Lebannon) was just the flash point. A larger issue which brought about the invasion into southeran Lebannon is the fact that Hezbollah, with the help of Iran and ?Syria? has been shooting large rockets into Israeli cities and killing innocent civilians. Each side seems to be taking it up a notch, and that is a dangerous trend. Lebannon does not have the military or polical ability to control Hezbollah, and so outside Arab forces are using Lebannon and Hezbollah as a pawn with which to attack Israel. I think that there is some hope for a UN peace-keeping force to set up a buffer zone in southern Lebannon, but first Hezbollah is going to have to stop shooting off those rockets, and that hasn't happened. The Arab world seems to be under the false impression that the US can control Israel, so once again we are getting the bad rap for "allowing" this to happen. As near as I can tell, down through history no one can just tell Israel what to do, and expect them to just do it, not even God. Smile

I, too, am drasticly out of touch with all this, however from what I gather from what you lot are saying, they are killing innocent civiliians and threatening nuclear warfare for the lives of 2/3 Soldiers?

Is it just me, or does it seem to be that Israel is just looking for an excuse to attack Palestine?

That's pretty much correct as per my understanding Fort. The UN seems to be taking a backseat and simply telling the two factions to stop fighting, but not getting directly involved.

I just hope this all comes to a peaceful resolution soon.

Just a very basic update for those who haven't followed this. By no means is my account highly descriptive, but is just a general outline. Hopefully it'll give some people a better idea of the sad sad eventuality of what may happen:

Draft Resoloution (as made by the UN with USA and UK backing (I think)):

Israeli’s to have all prisoners released, whilst Hezbollah only get an aim to settle the detention of their prisoners…

Israeli’s to only stop all ‘offensive’ attacks, although the whole thing is perceived as an ‘defensive’ attack, whilst Hezbollah must stop all attacks…

Israeli’s are on the line of bombing the home of Hezbollah, the green line that separates Christians and Muslims…

Hezbollah feel that the Americans want them destroyed, using Israel as the war device to do it…

Israeli’s have drone planes to drop bombs on Lebanon. To spy on the entire city and have even bombed a motorcycle with two alleged Hezbollah soldiers…

Hezbollah has fired around 300 rockets, up to two hundred a day…

Israel has bombed the entire network of roads and such like into and out of Lebanon. Human chain bringing medical relief and supplies into Hezbollah…

Hezbollah took some Israeli soldiers prisoner, and Israel launched an all out war on Palestine.

Israel overreacted, and civillians are being slaughtered mercilessly for a frivolous cause. In my humble opinion however, Hezbollah's just as bad.

Imagine being told to give your handbag to a mugger because if you don't he'll kill you. Then imagine that if you don't give in to his demands. he won't just kill you but he'll bomb an orphanage as well. Sure, the mugger (or in this case Israel) is a very bad person, but if you (I.E. Hezbollah) don't give in to his demands and sentence those orphans to death, doesn't that make you responsible as well (at least indirectly)?

Of course, this'd all probably have been prevented if the UN grew some balls, stepped in and told the two countries to kiss and make up or get their asses kicked by the rest of the planet. They might not enjoy it, but only an idiot'd go up against the entire United Nations, especially when they're backed by trigger-happy nuke-slinging America (no offense).

I don't know what to think any more. Any other perspectives?
