Greetings to you, Reader of the Archives, from the mod of this little corner of Blackstar (me! ). I'm pleased that you've decided to delve a little into our RPing history, as there's a lot of awesome RPs in here, and you can learn a lot about RPing from them, regardless of what skill level you're at.
Now, more out of a sense of formality than any real necessity, I feel the need to let you all know how I do things here in the Archives.
New Threads
Got a thread you feel deserves a place in the Archives? Let me know! I'll have a look at it when I get a chance, and if I feel that it deserves a spot in the Archives, I'll get to uploading it. There's not much required for a thread to be in here, though there are a few criteria that need fulfilling:
1. It's got to be an RP thread. For very obvious reasons. However, there are exceptions (such as The Writings of DP), so if you strongly feel that it belongs in here, PM me and we'll see.
2. It's got to be one or more of the following:
---> Epic. We're talking Forum Wars and EC vs Gameware - the exceptionally rare RP that happens once in a blue moon. This is the kind of stuff that shapes the community.
---> Unique. Such as the Pastry RP. This is the kind of RP based on something never really seen before. Keep in mind that it does still need to have a bit of success (a few pages of posts at least).
---> Popular. If enough people like it, I feel that it deserves a place here. MDude's Creatures RP is a good example of that, as we got quite a few requests to continue it and such.
---> No Longer Available. This might seem a strange category, but given how old the CC and many other communities are, there's quite a few threads that no longer exist on the internet.
Deletion
This'll probably be a rare thing, but I may need to delete a thread from the Archives for some reason or another. However, I do go through a certain process, I won't ever just delete something without warning anyone.
If either myself, any staff member (mods/admins) or enough people feel that an archived thread doesn't deserve to be in the Archives, I will PM the person who contributed this thread and ask them if this is ok. If no such person exists, or they believe that their thread does still belong in the Archives but fail to give an adequate reason, I'll ask the other staff here to vote on whether or not to keep the thread. If the vote is for deletion, then I'm sorry, but that's what's going to happen. I do keep most of the threads backed-up on my computer though (just in case), so if you ever want them all you have to do is ask.
Polls
Those marvellous little contraptions that let you express your views in a totally anonymous way! Yes, now you, the peruser of the Archives, can let your opinion be heard... sort of. Basically, this is to let people who haven't read these threads get a better idea of which ones people liked, as well as how many people have read them. Those who have already read it might find it interesting to see what others thought of it. It's based on the reader giving the thread a score out of 5, with 5/5 being a literary masterpiece and 1/5 being scribbles worthy of a men's room wall. Feel free to be as brutal or generous as you like, nobody can tell what you vote.
0/5 is a special score. I've implemented this so that you can alert me anonymously if I ever decide to put something that's either absolutely terrible or somehow offensive to people in the Archives. For now, if there's more than 3 votes for a poll to be deleted, I'll begin the process of deletion (see above section). It would also help a great deal if you could PM/e-mail me with the reasons why you feel that it should be deleted, if you don't want to comment on it in public.
EDIT: Hahaha, as proof of my n00bity in modly duties, I forgot to take into account that this part of the forums is closed, so you probably can't vote unless you're a mod or admin. Well, mods and admins, please vote if you get the chance, any input's appreciated .
Quotes
Feel that you could sell one of these threads to the public in a short sentance? In a system not unlike how movies, books and the like are publicized, I'm looking for people to comment on threads that they've either read or partaken in. Just PM me or post your comment over in the Archives thread in General Chat and I'll stick the quote in the section for the appropriate thread. Try not to keep your quote relevant to the thread though - comments like "I was awesome" or "EC rulez" don't really entice people to read things, no matter how true they may be.
EDIT: For those of you who can't vote, I'd still love some quotables, so please give me a shout if you want your opinion to be heard (I'll put up the good and the bad - though I do like a lot of these threads I try not to be biased).
That's all from me for now - enjoy!
