RP Character: Spookbeard the fearsome pirate

(Any of you who frequent JRC should be familiar with Spookbeard and his daring escapades already, and if not, gather 'round me hearties and listen close.)

Name: Spookbeard has many names, all of which strike fear in the hearts of small children, however he usually goes by Spookbeard, Spookbeard the Pirate, Spookbeard the Plunderer of what is to be Plundered, and others of the like.

Age: Not a soul on all the seven seas knows for sure the age of Spookbeard. He talks with the gruff voice of a weathered seadog, but climbs the ratlines with the agility of a youthful swab.

Description: Spookbeard is short and chubby. His face is covered with the shadow cast by his gigantic pirate hat, which is marked with Spookbeard's insignia, the Ensign O' Darkness, which is also displayed proudly on Spookbeard's ship's flag. He has a dark scraggly beard which sometimes moves as if it was posessed by some unseen spirit. Spookbeard wears a tattered blood-red cloak with gold trimmings. He carries a small spyglass in the loop of his belt, along with his trusty cutlass, and pistol. One of his legs has been reduced to a wooden peg, the other sports a black leather boot. And finally, on his shoulder, sits his trusty catbird, Nevril. Nevril is green, has ruffled fur and feathers, and has only one eye, which it uses to stare at things menacingly.

Abilities: Talking fluent pirate speak, skilled swashbuckling, navigating in harsh weather, insulting others, climbing ropes quickly, and not getting seasick.

Species: Humanish

Weapontry: The favorite weapon that Spookbeard carries with him, is his trusty cutlass. It looks like an ordinary cutlass, but a few bilge-sucking pirates that snuck into the captain's quarters one night say that they saw it glowing with an eerie white light. These pirates were later marooned on a desert island, and haven't been seen or heard from since. Spookbeard's other weapon, his pistol, is quite ordinary.

However, if you encounter Spookbeard while he is aboard his beloved ship, the Lady o' Darkness, you'll have a load of cannons and a boat load of angry crewmen weilding swords and pistols to worry about.

History: Spookbeard was born aboard a merchant vessel headed for a small port, quite far from protected waters. The ship was attacked by a group of booty-seeking pirates, who boarded the ship, and took everything valuable, killing the crew while they were at it. Spookbeard's mother fled with Spookbeard to the bilge, where they hoped they wouldn't be found. They weren't-- however, the pirates decided to set the ship on fire as they left. Spookbeard's mother and Spookbeard managed to escape the blaze, floating on a piece of unburnt wood. However, not long after, Spookbeard's mother died from lack of food, and water, her son left floating alone on the piece of wood. Nobody knows what happened to Spookbeard after that. Some say he washed ashore on a tropical island, where he was raised by the island people. Others say he was taken aboard on a small trading vessel, and raised there. And on Saturday night, down in the bar, some say he was raised by mermaids.
Nobody really knows. They just know that somehow, he became one of the most feared pirates on the seven seas.
