[Race] Faunans

I won't be using any of the Races I post here, but it might be fun to see if anyone picks up on them. My Race Profile differs from DPs slightly as I felt some were not applicable to Faunans, and there were a few bits I wanted to add in.

Race: Faunans (pronounced Four-nans)

Type: Sentient Flower Creatures

Sample Abilities: Firing seeds/spores. Can attract insects to them in large numbers. Whipping people with vine-like limbs. Use of a polearm (lengthy polearms are a preferred weapon for Faunans). Healing via Photosythesis.

Lifespan: Seed (0-3 years), Sapling (4-32 years), Adolescent (33-59 years), Adult (60-149 years), Elder (150-200 years), Ancient (200+ years).

Race Age: Around 30,000 Years

Technological Status: Fairly Advanced

Appearance: This race of sentient beings share many qualities with that of plants. Usually, their main body is green, like that of a plant stem, which is also ratherly thin. There is no such thing as a typical Faunan as they come in many different varieties and are usually so different, no two Faunans look similar.

A number of rudimentary legs jut out from the stem of a Faunan, this can be anything between two and six in most cases, although a few reported sightings of eight and even ten legged Faunans have been recorded, but never proven. Arms are limited to two though.

Over a Faunan's body, a number of blooms usually emerge by adolescence (which occurs roughly after 32 years of age). The bloom's locations are thoroughly random, except for one around each wrist, seperating the three fingered hand from each arm, and also one large one on top of the torso, from which their heads emerge. These blooms can be of any colour, some have large stamen, and some even attract insects.

The head is actually quite small, round, and the same colour as the stem/torso. They have two eyes, but no apparent nose and a very small mouth as they photosynthesize for nutrients and have no need to eat. The mouth is only for communication.

Behaviour: Faunans are generally of peaceful nature and wish good tidings to all races. In pursuit of a peaceful existance, they are generally quite trusting of others and welcoming to outsiders. Due to the large amounts of meditation they do (which is also an opportunity to photosynthesize), they believe themselves to be of a higher order than most other races, and closer to the "Creators", a grouping of godlike characters. This also leads them into believing that their way of life is the best way to be, and often get involved in other races affairs by giving themselves a freedom fighting role. If two other races go to war, Faunans are likely to consider the situation of the two, decide who they believe is in the wrong, and join forces with the other race in order to win over the opposition and bring peace to the galaxy. This meddling in the affairs of others often gets people's backs up, and Faunans can come across as quite arrogant, even when they try to help out.

History: Faunans are the dominant lifeform of their world. First origins of the species go back around 30,000 Years, and it took them around 22,500 Years to achieve space travel, so they have been travelling to other worlds for the last 7,500 Years. Despite this length of time, Faunans have only ever colonised one other world soon after achieving space travel. The planet was called Hedj. After only 34 Years of living on the planet, Hedj was invaded by a race called The Ryk, a warlike species who'd planned the world for a military outpost. The Faunans lost and withdrew to their homeworld, leaving several thousand Faunan civilians behind, who are thought to have seeded a local slave population for the Ryk. This incident is rumoured to have been the source of their interferring nature when it comes to war, as they do not wish a similar fate on other races.

Religion: Nearly all Faunans believe that there are five gods, referred to as The Creators. In the beginning, there was only one God, Rosar, who created the Faunan people. They also believe that those who meditate for long periods of time, are good towards others, and attempt to enlighten people as to the Faunan way of life, will be accepted into The Creators themselves. According to their writings, only four Faunans have ever achieved Rosar's exceptional standards, three of which (Polent, Fumer and Troo) gained access fairly early in their belief system, however, the leaders recently announced a new Creator called Berra, had been accepted, after one of the officials saw The Creators himself whilst in an advanced state of meditation.

Government: The Government is lead by a religious leader rather than a political entity. The leader is known as "Rooton" and is the ruler over both religion and government. He has advisors, but ultimately, it is him who makes the decisions. The role of Rooton is decided by bloodline.

Most of their laws and rules derive from their religion, and are usually generally relaxed, except for laws on fighting and murder. The punishment for both these offences is to be handed over to the Ryk as slaves, although because they are a peaceful people, they only ever send around 10 Faunans a year, these offences are rarely found.
