I know Blackstar's not terribly active these days, but I'll post this thread anyways.
I got caught up playing Stacker today, as I have a few times before, and it always strikes me as a very interesting arcade game.
For those of you who don't know it, Stacker is a game where blocks will slide from one side of the screen to the other, and you have to press a button to make blocks stack up in one big tower. It's usually loaded with some pretty sweet major prizes (Xbox 360s, Wiis, Nintendo DSs and PSPs are quite common as major prizes) and it seems to be all about skill, but I lack the lightning-fast reflexes needed to get that final 'major prize' block into place. I can get up to the final block probably once every three or four games, so I haven't really had a lot of chances to win (I don't have fast reflexes ). It's actually kind of fun though, and it's hard to get mad at the machine when I lose because I can see exactly how I'm losing.
According to the owner's manual the standard odds of winning are meant to be 'approximately' 1 in 400, but the owner of the machine can (and most likely does) crank that up to odds of 1 in 800... However, the manual also assures the owner that this is purely a game of skill, and that the odds only go up because the difficulty of the game goes up - this means that a skilled player should be able to beat the odds ('should' obviously being the key word here).
So, seeing as how I'm unemployed and shouldn't be wasting all of my money on arcade games that I'm not skilled enough to win at, I figured I'd do the next best thing and see who has actually won. Has anybody here ever played this game before and won a major prize?
In case you feel that it's impossible, good ol' Youtube is here to restore your faith in youth-oriented gambling by showing you that these people have won. _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

My freind won a nintendo DSI from a roulette-ish machine in one of thoose arcades. And the both of us won alot of tickets.
Yeah, I thought Blackstar would be much more active during september-october-december for whatever reason. Instead, this year so far peaked at Jan-Feb-April. I dont have exact data to back any of this up but... |

Roulette is not Stacker DLM, and so I'm not quite as excited about your friend's big win (though a DSI is a pretty sweet prize).

Ah, I'm more of the opinion that it moves in a different fashion to the other blocks, so it's a little harder to get. For all the other blocks you need to hit the button whenever they get to where you want them to be, but for the last block I reckon you almost have to hit the button before it gets where you want it to be. I get the feeling that most people mess up because they play with the same rhythym they've been playing through the entire game, so when the last block suddenly changes things up a bit people are very easily thrown off.
Of course, I haven't actually tried this for myself just yet, so I don't know if it works When I get a job and can justify wasting my money on such frivilous things once again I'll be sure to let you know if it does work.
It's probably also worth mentioning that the manual I've mentioned in my first post only covers the LAI Stacker machines. Apparently there are imitation brands that might not adhere to the same standards (ie: they may be rigged to never allow a player to win), but even if they don't they are still very illegal, and LAI Games are, er, quite ruthless in their hunt for and destruction of imitators.
If you're confident that you've found an illegal machine (as the news article says, the ones they're really keen on finding are called Aces High, Pile Up, Go Up and Chase The Ace) you should e-mail LAI Games to let them know about it... Or maybe try your hand at a little extortion?
Alternatively you could simply complain that the machine is impossible to win at. I can't find the link right now but I remember reading about how somebody complained that the machine they were playing was unbeatable and the manager gave them a prize to stop them complaining (odds are they were making a pretty big scene about it, I guess). _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

I-It isnt?
Speaking of rigged machines, Yes I naturally belive that most of the machines happen to be rigged one way or anouther so that you NEVER have a chance of getting the prize. Not just a insanely low chance, Instead the machine calculates it so it throws that one thing off that would otherwise have you win or whatever.
Or they could give you a patheticly low chance. Like slot machines. Im bad at math and I dont have my scientific calculator with me right now, but on a generic slot machine that has 3 slots and 3 diffrent icons (Cherry, Bar, and uh, Lets say a doughnut. Yeah. Wouldent rule that out.) your chances of getting a doughnut in slot 1 are 1 in 3. Fair enough, But you need a doughnut on all 3 slots to win. So you need to line them all up and... Once again, I am realy bad at math. But needless to say, You are going to loose.
Nevertheless, theese work out well for the mob because it allows them to launder money (Ie, Make counterfit money and discretly trade it in for legitament money) |
