((Well, I did say I had an idea for this, so here it is. For those of you who didn't take part).
How to make a New World, by Speeder:
| Quote: |
| But, one day, after mixing water and sand in an magical orb, and transmuting energy into it in a high-magical field in a prepared chamber, and letting the chamber doors explode open after a week, it would explode the orb the moment it had been in the open air for more than five minutes. The containments would flare off, and a portal gate would open. |
Here are the rules as laid out by Speeder and then rewritten by 3kul
| Quote: |
1. Imo, these rules were a little too strict, hence why this thread wasn't so popular. Feel free to use your own powers provided that you aren't a god or a spirit (try to limit them, otherwise it's no fun since you guys have too many powers ), but don't go bringing in foreign stuff (eg: a nuclear power plant, guns, instant mix magic, etc).
2. The aim was a bit narrow-minded, so I'm changing this slightly to - either find a way to use some kind of magic or develop some kind of technology (I felt that the whole magic mindset was a little narrow-minded). If people really struggle with this I might step in and add something, but that's really only if this thread takes off or not .
3. The rate of time, although not really discussed, can be whatever you like, as it's your world. Do try to keep it somewhat constant though (unless you specific otherwise), it's kind of cheating if 1000 years pass between one day's posting and then only 12 hours pass between the next.
That's about it for now (ask me if anything still confuses you though). Use this as an opportunity to feel like a God without actually having to change your character, or to develop a new race for the Genetic Repository, or just to have a reasonably laid back RP rather than the usual 20-posts-a-day kind of thing. Once people are on the way towards fulfilling some of these aims I might throw a few surprises in... Nothing devestatingly bad though, so don't worry too much .
Oh, and one more thing, please specify whether or not other people are able to access your world, and describe it and it's inhabitants a little for everyone.
Feel free to throw in other details if you need to, and you don't have to start with a tiny population like I did if you don't want to. RPers of all skills levels are welcome, provided that you abide by the rules. If you have no idea what to do, think of it as a Spore RP, because it pretty much is (with the exception of magic and stuff) .

This is the description of my world so far:
World: Celus
Description: Tropical planet orbiting three suns, with large bodies of water once hidden beneath the surface now exposed to create massive lakes of salt and fresh water, along with a few rivers Vegetation sprouts around these areas and is of a red-blue hue, unless the plants are carnivorous in which case they are purple-red, or blue if they are parasitic. The life here first started in isolated micro-habitats with glowing blue rock for light, eventually spreading outwards. Where there is no water the planet is a barren desert with very little life. But there are only a few places like that now.
Technology/Magic Level: Very low, consisting of primitive tools. No magic as yet
Access? No visitors yet thanks, I want to get them up to a certain level before that happens
Sentient Inhabitants: Yallians
Description: Bah, who needs a description? I have drawings
A Yallian, but these ones are a little more evolved than this one so their clubs are a bit smaller. You can't tell from the picture but they've actually got four mouthparts, plus one long thin tongue. They're also a blueish red colour, about 1 foot high and feed off fruit and nectar.
Population: 2 (3 if you count Kheesth), possibly an unknown amount of others.
And an animal list, so people (and I) don't get confused
Scuttlers - Share a common ancestry with the Yallians, possessing eight legs and claws on each leg to better grip the plants, as well as delicate pincers, shell-less. They've taken on the red-blue colouring of the non-carnivorous plants for camouflage.
Aquatic Scavengers/Hunters - Common ancestry, possessing eight 'fins' that were once legs, with flattened pincers to help with movement and grab prey. Now a blue colour to blend in with its new environment. Shell-less.
Rainbow 'fish' - Organisms that move in shoals, possessing no limbs but having a very prehensile body with 'fins' above and below, running along the length of their bodies. Change colour constantly to confuse others, completely blind and communicate with each other through weak electrical currents.
Bloatfish - These are giant versions of the rainbow, but without the rainbow colouring (they're completely blue), and live in large shoals deep underground. These though, have evolved eyes to defend themselves from predators.
Squid-predators - Blind and when last seen were making the transition from water to land. Went extinct due to plant and land-based Scavenger/Hunter predation.
Insects - Newly evolved, possessing purple wings and green bodies. Sub-species can be found in leaf-litter, living in the ground and/or the trees. However, most of them are Fliers feeding off nectar and fruit.
Hard-Shells - No relation to the Yallians despite obvious similarities. Live outside in the crevices of the planets (Celus) surface. Possess eight legs with claws, one pair of which can be bent the entirely opposite direction to the others, though with soldier types these legs have a pair of large spikes on the ends rather than claws. Far stronger than they look, with eyes and a round, tooth filled mouth below the protective shell. Possibility they now possess a hive mind, Hard-Shells are a sandy red colour and one foot wide but only half that tall.
Long Legs - These have four long, thin legs, each one almost five times longer than the Yallians height. The legs are attached to a tiny (at least it is tiny compared to its legs) sandy coloured body that is bereft of any hair. Their mouth has no teeth, but is covered in a web like substance. They also have a single eye set on the top of their body, most likely to keep a watch out for anything dangerous. They are creatures that feed on microscopic lifeforms in the air, and entirely harmless unless threatened or startled, when they will puff their tiny bodies up and expose row upon row of venomous spines.
Fellike - These have four red eyes, two set in the front facing position and two to either side, and their rounded heads have a wide jaw with not one, but two rows of teeth. The front row are fang-like, designed for grabbing and holding on to prey, whilst the second row are flat and far more suited to crushing hard tissue, as these guys prey on the Hard-Shells as well as everything else. They have a set of four small ears in a similar arrangement to the eyes, as well as a single nose. The body is quite squat and muscular, designed for sprinting short distances rather than running for an extended amount of time, and their body is covered in fine purple hair. It also has six legs, on the end of each are three long, large toes with nasty looking claws on the end. They're about two and a half feet tall, making them the largest predators so far.
Overview of my world for those who haven't/don't want to read the original New Worlds thread: Kheesth created Celus, then after entering she watched the life within a small, micro-habitat inside a large, rounded mountain grow and evolve. After falling asleep Kheesth is awakened by a member of the first sentient species, called Genyal, and shown a colony of the same. She leaves for a short period to see what has happened in the underground lake, but is soon sought out by Genyal and shown an invading force of Hard-Shells. Whilst watching the Yallians preparations to defend their food supply, Kheesth is forcibly removed from that world by the Portal Guardian, who has been watching her. The Yallians defeat the Hard-Shells with the little inspiration when Genyal saw Kheesth, so in her absence they start referring to her as Kist and the Inspirer (much to her annoyance when she returns). During her absence the colony outgrows its ancestral home and Kelgen, one of Genyals descendants, leads a band of Yallians outside. The Yallians that are left suffer starvation and soon after a virulent plague, leaving only two survivors, a male called Zeckul and an infertile female name Halyan, who is also missing her middle right leg. It's about this time that Kheesth returns to the world after plying the Portal Guardian with questions, and she meets the two survivors. Kheesth spends enough time with the two to learn their language and they leave at her insstence to look for the descendants of Kelgens band outside. They experience their first night, sunsets and sunrises and have their first encounter with the Fellike predator that night, but Kheesth warns it off. The next day they come across a Hard-Shell defending a hole in the ground from one of these predators, and watch it get killed. Then thousands of the creatures show up and chase the Fellike away, then surround Kheesth and her two companions, who are now held safely in the Tezcans lower arms.
That's all I'm going to put for now, to kick this off, enjoy )) _________________ Baker of the radioactive three-eyed flying purple cookie eating brownies!

I'm going to start at when the first creatures become sentient. All of the creatures on this world used to be earth creatures.
World: Shala
Description:Shala is a large hollow planet, with the 'surface' covered in dark brown mountains. This planet is spinning quickly; the Centrifugal force results in reverse gravity- pushing away from the center. The main source of light and water is a freefloating orb of water surrounding a glowing crystal. There are several other freefloating or semisynchronous 'Islands' floating around the center water. The farther away from the surface you are, the less gravity there is.
Technology/Magic Level: The Chirop have just gained sentience. Primitive magic, no technology.
Access? Not as of yet
Sentient Inhabitants: Chirop
Description: A Chirop is a large reptilian bat with a serpentine head. They walk on their forelegs (wings) and they use their hind legs (Hands) to manipulate objects. The color of their scales vary, from white to black. They are omnivores, and eat Mobs, Plavi, Mesk, and Shin. They sleep while hanging on Firn. Recently, they've started weaving the Firn into houses.
They can fly, but only close enough to the 'void'; the center of the planet where there is less gravity. They are about as large as humans.
Population: 600. The Chirop are split up by "Clans", all of which are a different color. (Red, Blue, Brown, Green, White*, Black*) Each clan has about 100 members.
(* White and Black are very secretive, and so the rest of the clans do not know of them.)
And a list of the sparse ecosystem, which is planetwide.
Vines: large vines which span between mountains (Shaped curiously like a spiderweb), catching and absorbing water from the void. All large seed producing clusters, called Mobs, are bioluminescent and glow bright green. When it is ready, the Mob propels itself into the center of the planet. During the next rainfall, seeds will descend. Mobs are eaten by the Plavi, the Chirop, and Mesk.
Plavi: Small, spider-like creatures. They have four digitigrade legs and can jump enormous heights. They can leap from the surface to an island easily. Plavi are omnivores and so they eat Firine and Mesk (Shin when they can scavenge it). They are about the size of a large dog.
Mesk: Long, snake-like tunnelers. They stay under the surface and only come up to eat Mobs, being herbivores. Not much else is known about them. They are eaten by Plavi and Shin. They are about 50 feet long and 3 feet around.
Shin: An incredibly large feline creature. Has redundant hunting capabilities; Claws, Horns, Paralyzing Venom, Thermal Sensing. Once it senses suitable prey, it will be relentless. It will not stop hunting that prey, even to the point of exhaustion. Normally, they have dark fur; ranging from black to brown. They are 12 feet tall and 25 feet long.

((Er, also... restarting all my characters at this point, and feel free to PM me to delete this is I screw up too badly ^^))

~~Victoria~~
"Are you sure this will work?" Victoria asked her twin. "I'd rather neither of us died going through this 'portal' of yours."
"Yes, I'm sure," Savannah snapped. "Now shut up before I call hail down on your head."
Victoria turned away and spoke in a hushed voice to Neera. "Are you okay there?" The girl nodded in reply.
They'd picked up Neera during their travels through the Wilds, and Savannah had insisted that they drag 'the poor girl along, try give her a better home than this'. Never mind that Neera had to be at least as old as them and full well capable of taking care of herself.
Victoria peered nervously around the trees. She'd been sure someone was following them for days, but she never saw anyone. Right now, the only other living thing she could spot was a sleepy owl watching them curiously. Not out of place this side of dusk.
"There. Now we just go through, and see what's on the other side."
Unnoticed by the other three as they walked through the portal, the owl flew to the ground and shifted into the form of a short, slender girl with black hair and hazel eyes. She waited for two minutes, then slid through the portal after them.
~~Savannah~~
Savannah tumbled out of the portal onto soft, springy grass. Though it was possible she came out of the portal walking but ended up tumbling so quickly she couldn't tell. It was possible - even plausible, given the other two were still standing. She quickly clambered up and took a look around.
They were on a stretch of grassland on the edge of a forest. The grass was short, so clearly there was some form of grazing animal around, but Savannah couldn't see anything.
She could, however, see something peering down at her from a nearby branch.
It looked distinctly feline, but it had six legs. Well, not really legs, as the first two ended in what were clearly very dexterous hands, while the other four looked to have a fair degree of grasping ability too - it made sense, if they lived up in trees. It's pelt was a beautiful cream colour with gray stripes, and its eyes were an emerald green.
It looks curiously at her for a moment, then ran off along the branches. From side on its tail was clear... as were the wickedly long claws on each foot/hand. Savannah decided that was one feline she did not want to anger.

((
I'm stoked to see this thread being re-done, and I just spent the past couple of hours going back through my old new world to figure out how I go about starting off in this thread... But you know, after going through it all there's a lot about my old new world that I didn't really like, and if I started from where I'd finished there it'd be pretty unfair to everyone else as I'd be way ahead (in terms of population numbers and technological advances) so I've decided to start somewhat afresh for this one. The things that I liked I'll keep the same, and I'll throw in a few new things to keep it interesting.
World: Mudstra
Description: A now largely aquatic world covered with gigantic mushrooms, all of which are now dying. Due to a sudden and dramatic increase in rainfall the environment is changing, and the once swampy planet is now almost entirely submerged underwater. This tiny world orbits a single yellow sun all on it's lonesome, with no moons to call it's own.
Technology/Magic Level: Practically non-existent. Maybe some very basic tools (ie: sticks, bones, rocks, etc.), but practical uses for these aren't widely known.
Access? Soon, but not just yet. I need to get back on track with all of this first.
Sentient Inhabitants: Brisicans
Descriptions: Brisicans are intelligent little creatures with very imaginative minds. They have hardened skull-caps to help them ward off predators when need be, but the rest of their body is very soft and weak. They are able to move about quite quickly in water and on the land with their four tentacles, and they are quite good at climbing as well. Brisicans are typically purple in colour, shades of which seem to vary between individuals, though their eyes are all the same black colour. Males have shorter hair than females, though there appears to be no reason for this.
Animals:
Buo - Large, stone-skinned fish creatures capable of spending long periods of time out of water. About as vicious as a cow, these mild-mannered (yet completely inedible) beasts are relatively easy to tame and live in heards. They live on a steady diet of swamp weeds.
Slish - Primitive and pathetic fish with no scales that are a common sight throughout the Mudstran waters, these are easy prey for young, inexperienced or weak predators. They live off of dead matter, swamp weeds and, when they can get them, wurms.
Kachi-kachi - Spider-like omnivores, though only the males hunt. The females spend most of their time protecting their egg sacs (carried on their backs), which are easily stolen by hungry critters looking for a nutritious meal. Both males and females have hollow legs and are able to walk on water. They're quite intelligent, and if the females could figure out a better way to hang on to their egg sacs they may finally reach a generation that achieves sentience.
Wurm - Plentiful in any muddy areas on Mudstra, wurms are a popular foodsource for just about anything, and are the absolute bottom of the food chain. They eat dirt.
Plomboo - Small, frog-like creatures with only two legs and six eyes. Plomboos are fluorescently coloured with equally bright spots or stripes running down their bodies, making them easily spotted by predators. They are able to inhale vast amounts of air into their bodies, enough to either allow themselves to float to safety or, if they are feeling particularly doomed, blow up in the would-be predator's face. They eat wurms and slish larvae.
Genker - Intelligent insects that operate in large hives and gather up mushroom spores to turn into a sticky, delicious substance loved by most omnivores. They are orange with two large green eyes and various markings on their forehead and running down their back. They have two arms with sickle-like claws for hands and a pair of long grasshopper-like legs. They're carnivorous, but due to their small size they usually have to go for smaller prey, such as plomboo and wurms. They are skilled climbers, but do not like water very much (hence why they don't really eat slish). They are close to achieving sentience, and it's not yet known what's holding them back.
Ragorly - Vicious high-speed insectoid predators that somewhat resemble large red dragonflies, a Ragorly tends to have six wings, four legs and a set of large serrated jaws to allow it to tear chunks off of it's prey as it flies past them at blinding speed. They are their own worst enemy however, as Ragorlies will often crash into each other or mushroom stalks as they go in for the kill.
Ogloc - Tall and mostly-hairless mammalian omnivores with a rather vicious demeanor, Oglocs tend to fight with just about anything that crosses them. They conceal a long spine in each of their two arms that they can unsheath when necessary, and whilst their long upside-down jaws make eating quite challenging, it does allow them to give something a rather vicious bite. With two long powerful legs and a slender physique, the Oglocs are also quite fast on their feet. They're mostly white with tawny manes running down the back of their head, and two slit eyes nestled beneath a pair of tiny useless horns. They have the potential to be intelligent, but their fixation on mindless fighting and hunting prevents them from living long enough to become more advanced.
Prologue: "Ook, ook, ook." A handy battlemonkey chattered, handing a small orb to a grunt who was nervously watching over him. "It's fixed? Good as new?" "Ook." The battlemonkey responded, nodding. The grunt sighed with relief, placing the orb back where he'd found it: in HollowEyes' old room, the cramped and uncomfortably dank hole in the wall.
He'd accidentally dropped the fascinating little treasure when he was examining it in the SiC's absense, and he could only watch in horror as it shattered. Of course, his first instinct was to tell nobody and attempt to fix it himself, but he had no idea how it went back together. Figuring that this required more dexterous hands than his own, the grunt went and 'borrowed' a battlemonkey to help him out with fixing the darn thing - battlemonkeys had a reputation of being quite good with their hands (sometimes), and all they cared about was bannas, so you didn't even need to pay them in money.
"Hey wait, what are these missing bits?" He asked the battlemonkey, picking up a few little shards of energy. "Ook, ook, aah!" The battlemonkey shrieked angrily, snatching his hard-earned bannas from the grunt and scampering off. The grunt shrugged and dropped the missing bits back to the floor, figuring that nobody would miss them.
As the unknown grunt wandered off, the orb glowed slightly, restarting that which was interrupted...
Timeline:
Age of Mud: Mudstra's initial stage, the planet was a swampy land covered in mushrooms, toadstools and other simple plantlife, coming in a variety of shapes and sizes. There was much moisture in the air but usually not enough for very much rain, and whilst water did cover most of the planet it was all quite shallow. It was during this time that life also began to develop, and the age of mud ended with the first sentient species, the Brisican, beginning to form familial units.
Age of Rain: Mudstra's second stage, in which the planet is flooded with vast quantities of water due to a changing climate. The mushrooms and toadstools that previously covered the planet are drowning and will soon be no more. This is an age that greatly favours aquatic and airborne lifeforms, and so those who had previously taken advantage of the gigantic fughi that covered the planet to become land-dwelling creatures must adapt quickly or they will surely become extinct. The more intelligent creatures are banding together in larger groups, hoping to find safety and a better chance at survival in numbers. _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

Note: Chirop do not speak english, so all spoken words will be translated to English. Chirop names, although they have english counterparts such as "One-who-speaks" will remain un-translated.
((I get to use Tav, my crazy teenager librarian! Yay!))
"I think it's done." Taavi said, talking to himself as usual. "Well. Time to enter it." He walked near the portal when his Sigla (Tattoos that work as a magic shield) started glowing. It was glowing green; the Sigla color used only with world-hoppers. It was a warning that it would shapeshift him into a sentient race that was from that world. If he entered the portal, he would change.
"Would I be able to speak their language?" He asked himself. Then he shrugged, and walked into the portal.
Taavi
---------------------------------------
"I will hunt." Leh said. He was old enough to come of age. 'Coming of age' entitled hunting the giant cat-like hunters known as Shin. Only the greatest hunting clan of Chirop, the Red, hunted these mindless killing machines.
"Very well." The elder responded. He was not happy with Leh joining on the hunt. He was weak, and would call the Shin to him. He spoke to the rest of the hunters; all of the Red excluding the old and the children- the former taking care of the latter. "We will go. A flyer* has seen an ancient Shin near the village."
(* A flyer is a Chirop mutation in which their wings are large enough to lift off from the surface. They are rare, but there are usually about 10 in each clan of 100.)
The walk to the mountain was long. The climb up it was not. Once at the top of the mountain, where gravity was not as great, then could the hunting party fly to their destination.
"Why do you seem unhappy, Elder?" Leh asked. The hunting party was flying towards where the flier had pointed them.
"You are young you look weak. The Shin will see you as so and will hunt you."
Leh was angry at that. "I am not weak! I am Red! The Red cannot be weak. Why else would we be the famed hunters? Why else would we be the color of spilled blood?!"
"Be calm. I didn't mean to imply that you were weak. You are not. You look weak, and so others will think you are weak."
Suddenly, without warning, a Shin leaped out from behind a nearby boulder. It landed on one of the Red, and then bit him. Once bitten, the Red started going into convulsions. The Shin understood this as defeated prey, and turned to the rest of the red.
"Swarm! Hunt!" The Elder called. The 50 Hunters started flying by, using their clawed hands to tear the giant cat to shreds. The predator roared, and that was when all hell broke loose.
"12 Shin." Leh said, stunned. "We're all going to die."

((Yay, new and old people! ))
Kheesth watched the group surrounding them warily, the serpentine Summoner folded her arms as her scales slowly turned red to signify her annoyance. The soldiers seemed to be watching them with an equal intensity, their shells lifting off the ground high enough that even from the Tezcans vantage point the hundreds of beady little eyes the creatures possessed could be seen glinting in the sunlight. The two Yallians, balancing precariously enough on the Summoners fairly thin arms and upturned lower hands as it was, leaned forwards to goggle with all three eyes at the creatures that once regularly invaded their old home.
Kheesth still waited, the Hard-Shells seemed neither to want to move nor risk a confrontation with the strange creature in front of them, and simply stared back. The Tezcan began to consider hissing at them as well, to get them to move out of the way, when as though the entire group in front of them was of one mind they shuffled to the sides. This left a small gap leading up to the hole they'd been protecting so intently, and a smaller, weaker looking version of themselves minus the spikes on the legs emerged from it. This one had far paler colouring than the others, looking more like a dusty yellow, and it's shell seemed to have more of a domed shape to it. This one stopped directly in front of them, the soldiers closed their formation and formed an entourage focussed more on protecting this one other creature and less on keeping her there. Hard-Shell soldiers surrounded it in a large circle, keeping eyes out on all sides for any possible threat and removing back from the perimeter they'd set around the snake woman, leaving all their options but forwards clear.
"What's that thing?" Zeckul asked, leaning ever more precariously over as his interest was piqued even more, but keeping a grip on the Summoners lower limbs with all six digits on one hand "it's like a Hard-Shell, but different"
Kheesth barely noticed the Yallians excited question, she could feel... something tickling the back of her consciousness, causing her earlier irritation to fade into it's own curiousity, her scales changing slowly from red to it's normal grey-green. The tickling was quite insistent, but it seemed every time she tried to grasp it, it slipped away. At the same time the tickling stopped, Halyan yelled in surprise.
"They talk!" she said, her voice full of as much surprise as Zeckuls eyes were as he turned them to goggle at her, though his third eye stayed rooted on the large group.
"But Halyan, they're not making any noises. They're just standing there and staring at us " Zeckul protested, clearly confused. How could something talk without moving it's mouth or making any sound? It wasn't possible.
"But I heard them" Halyan argued back "and I... didn't" Zeckul was right, they hadn't made a noise, and that just made the female confused "... Kist?"
Kheesth turned her unblinking green eyes down to look at Halyan, then at the pale Hard-Shell and back again. The Hard-Shell had it's attention firmly rooted on the female Yallian. "What are they saying?" the Summoner asked, warding off any more protests from Zeckul with a sharp look, who snapped his mandibles shut as quickly as they'd opened.
"I... I don't know. It's all too-too much" Halyan said "it's like listening to a crowd, everyone wanting to be heard at once" _________________ Baker of the radioactive three-eyed flying purple cookie eating brownies!

((Just a small note to say I really liked how you considered such genetic mutations Zerrer, it reminds me of the vestigial fly wing experiements we did back in high school
As a side note, none of the creatures on Mudstra speak English as of yet.))
"Washu got there?" "Ragorly. Help get." "Ou."
The two Brisicans stripped the meat that the Ragorly had to offer them as best as they could. Their lack of fingers or claws made this rather difficult, so essentially their only option was to pound the creature's corpse with their hardened heads until it was smushed up enough for them to carry bits home. It was incredibly wasteful, unhygenic, messy and left the pair of them reeking of dead meat, but they were not intelligent enough to know any better.
Ragorly are lean creatures, and as such they really don't have very much meat on them, but they're not typically a part of a Brisican's diet. A fight with a Ragorly was one that a Brisican could never hope to win, for Ragorlies were bigger, faster and stronger than any Brisican, and on top of all that they were built to suit a vicious and carnivorous lifestyle.
However whilst Brisicans are very intelligent creatures, Ragorlies are very stupid creatures. Ragorly crashes are an incredibly common sight on Mudstra - sometimes they will simply slam into a mushroom stalk, sometimes they will crash into each other and sometimes they'll just hit their prey too hard. No matter the reason, it meant that dead Ragorlies were quite the plentiful food source, and one that Brisicans were happy to exploit.
Satisfied that they'd gathered enough Ragorly gizzards and such, the two young Brisicans left what remained of the corpse for anything else that might want it. Hopping into the shallow water, they waded back home.
These Brisicans were still quite few in number, just over 20 in total, but now that they had banded together to form something of a colony they found that they could do more than just survive if they all looked out for each other. 'Bris' was the name of this first colony, formed around a large, twisted black mushroom. They had selected this mushroom for their home because of it's unique shape - the twisted stalk made it easier to climb, and they could even sleep in it or store food in it.
Brisicans had figured out a few important things that made their lives much easier.
The first was that gathering more food than you need to eat was actually very clever, and not a collosal waste of time as they'd previously believed. It meant that they could support more young and have more time to teach them things and even develop their own ideas. They had not yet figured out that eating rotten food made you sick, but it would surely only be a matter of time before somebody figured that one out.
The second was that much could be achieved with teamwork. Parents could leave their children under the supervision of others, large numbers of Brisicans could rest easy at night with just a few watching out for the rest of them, and powerful foes could be intimidated by several Brisicans working together... Sometimes.
And finally, they had begun to grasp some very, very basic concepts of tools. Nothing terribly groundbreaking yet, but they all understood how useful it was to have such sturdy heads, and they understood how they could utilize their sturdy heads in different ways. Tenderizing meat was the current favourite though, second to the rhythmic sound that could be achieved by constantly beating one's head against Bris' stalk. They did not yet understand that they were on the verge of creating primitive music, but it wouldn't be long before they came to appreciate it a bit more.
A light splashing alerted the two Brisicans carrying the Ragorly remains to the presence of another two Brisicans - these were both female. They didn't appear to be carrying anything, but their faces looked very swollen. "Washu got there?" "Hurt?" The two females walked right past the other two Brisicans (one of whom was male and another who was also female), but signalled for them to follow.
Once they'd all reached Bris, they found a nice curvy part of the stalk to place their spoils, and the two females opened their mouths. Thick green goo flowed out, carrying with it a very strong, sweet smell. Licking their lips after they'd managed to spit out most of the stuff, the two females looked quite proudly at the vast amount they'd managed to carry here. "Goo tasty. Try some." "Wait!" The male stopped them, not wanting to start eating just yet.
Though still a very primitive species, Brisicans had developed one other unique quirk - they would not eat until the entire 'household' was present. It wasn't that they had to eat with each other, they just wanted to know that they were all safe. The colony, called 'Bris', had only recently come together, and as such it was broken up into smaller families, which were called 'nols'. Nols were not typically genetically related, but were Brisicans who cared for and got along with each other.
"Where Fritr? He go with you, ou?" The male asked, curious to know where the fifth member of their little family was. "Goo from Genker home." One of the females began uneasily. "Fritr... Hit by Genker. Fall down and not get up."
The small group sat down in a rather solemn silence. Brisicans understood that falling down and not getting back up meant that you were dead, and this was a rather crippling blow to their nol. With Fritr gone there was only one male and three females, which, whilst not frowned upon in Brisican society, gave their nol a very uncertain future.
The male, feeling an immense uncertainty looming over his beloved nol, decided that he didn't feel like eating for now. "I eat soon. I... wander now." 'Wandering' was what Brisicans said when they meant 'think', because they didn't yet have a term for that. "Come back soon, Mgol." One of the females said as they began to eat their quiet meal. "Ou..." He replied, climbing back down the side of Bris.
((Sorry for the long post, but once I got started I found it hard to stop

Out from behind a large cluster of vines came several Shin, all incredibly large.
"12 Shin." Leh said, counting quickly. "We're all going to die."
Suddenly, a large flash of light and a screech came from one of the vines. It was a Mob*, using it's glowing chemicals to burst into the Void. Once in the void, it would hit the crystal core beneath the water and burst again, spraying seeds as well as causing rainfall.
(*Pumpkin-sized seedpods that grow on the vines)
Suddenly Leh knew how to defeat the Shin.
-----------------------------
His people were getting slaughtered. The Shin were methodically paralyzing each of the red in turn with their venom. Leh finally finished collecting the mobs and then started to fight.
He squeezed the Mob. Nothing. He slammed it into the ground. It didn't explode- it just splattered. He took another one, and then tried shaking it. It started bubbling and vibrating of it's own accord. He threw it at one of the Shin. The Mob exploded on contact, knocking the gargantuan beast onto the ground. Half of it's legs were missing. It was no longer a threat to anyone. He took up a Mob in each clawed hand and started shaking them.
((I'll get back to Taavi soon. Well, at least I think I might. Leh is too fun to RP as. Hrm. . . I might bring him to Blackstar after this. ))

((That's sounds like one hell of a blast Zerrer, makes me wonder how many poor Chirop have accidentally obliterated themselves after eating some mob seeds and doing a bit of vigorous exercise ))
"Mgol is wandering." A Brisican higher up in the Bris mushroom noted. "Fritr is not here. Maybe lost? Hurt?" "Maybe he fall down and not get back up." A harsher voice commented. "Sweer?" "Mgol nol is silly. Mur, Kli and Fritr go to Genker home to eat goo. Genker dangerous, not like it when goo is taken. We know it, so we don't do it."
A long scar across his face and a missing left eye marked Sweer as somebody who had learned from experience. He thought it stupid for Brisicans to continue risking their lives for such unnessecary things, and yet they still did it all the same. "Not 'Mgol nol'." A rather angry voice snapped, and a rather quick tentacle lightly slapped one of Sweer's tentacles. "It could be 'Mur nol', 'Kli nol', 'Lura nol' or something else. Nol not always male's name."
This nol was one of the biggest in Bris, and was run quite differently. Sweer has asserted himself as the head of the household, a senior male with many years of experience and knowledge behind him. He has a rather possessive female as his sole mate (much to his embarassment, for Brisicans find sticking to just one mate a little unusual) who isn't afraid to stand up to him, named Jel.
There are six others in this nol, three male and three female, as Sweer insisted upon a balanced nol. Brisicans from this nol always moved in groups of four or more for defensive purposes, and so Sweer had little pity for those who didn't do the same. They had only lost three of their own since the last courtship, and two of those had just been a couple of children playing by themselves when they weren't supposed to - other nols had lost much more than that, why couldn't they see how his way was better?
"Dark time. Who will watch?" Jel asked aloud. "I will, and so will Nart." Jel looked the two over - they were the youngest in the nol, both male, and the one who volunteered himself and his friend always seemed eager to please. "Ou, Nart and Pern, go and watch. Make sure Mgol comes back." "Ou, Jel."
'Watch' was a kind of primitive sentry duty that each of the nols performed, but as Sweer nol was the biggest it usually fell on them to watch most of the time. Brisicans had no concept of time outside of 'light' and 'dark' so it wasn't a terribly strict process, they simply kept an eye out for danger until they felt tired, then found somebody else to take their place. As most of the critters in this world could climb, the Brisicans knew that they were constantly in danger of being attacked or raided, and as such they considered watching to be just as important as hunting or gathering, and something that they rarely shirked.
Of course, children were exempt from watch, as were the disabled. There were no children around at the moment, as it was the season for it yet, and Brisicans were lucky to live to be middle-aged, so there were no elderly either. Sweer was the only disabled Brisican in the colony, but he seemed to work extra hard with his nol to make up for it.
"What will we do next Light Time, Sweer?" Jel asked, for it was at this time that the Sweer nol liked to plan their actions for the next day. "... Hunt. We gather lots today, even after sharing we not need to gather tomorrow." 'Hunting' and 'Gathering' meant 'finding meat' and 'finding vegetation' respectivly, so when Sweer suggested hunting he didn't necessarily mean that they would go kill something, just that they would focus on bringing meat home because they had more than enough vegetation to eat.
The rest of the nol agreed that this was the best move for tomorrow and retired for the night, feeling safe and comfortable in their nests of dried waterweeds.
((I'm going to have to write down all of these names somewhere to keep track of them )) _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

"Concentrate" Kheesth told the Yallian in as soothing a voice as she could muster "you'll get it eventually". Kheesth wasn't telepathic in the slightest, the only thing connecting her with the Elelmentals was the magic, so it was hardly surprising that she couldn't make out a thing that was trying to be said. Halyan, on the other hand, seemed quite sensitive to it.
The female Yallian scrunched her three eyes together so tightly that all that could now be seen were three thin, black slits where the black eyes had once been. This was in stark contrast to the pale Hard-Shell, whose just as pale hundreds of eyes stared at her intensely.

"I can't" Halyan said, shaking her head from side to side "it doesn't make any sense"

"It's still.... no, wait I've got it!" Halyan said, her eyes snapping open in surprise and sudden understanding "they say, leave their... territory? What's a territory?"
Halyan, to Kheesths surprise, was using the Common word for territory. It seemed that Zeckul was clueless as to what the word meant as well, judging by his silence.
"A territory is where you live" Kheesth answered "your home"
"Oh" Halyan replied, deep in thought now "there was something else"

World: Etau
Description: A planet mostly covered in a shallow ocean, with large mountains located around the North and South poles. There are also small archipelagos scattered around the planet. Vegetation is extremely abstract and tropical plants tend to look more like crystals. There is very little vegetation found in the poles, though there is abundant moss.
Technology/Magic Level: N/A
Access: Not yet.
Sentient Inhabitants: None yet
------
Nomeeia watched the planet with utmost interest. She hadn't meant to create it, she had accidentally mixed two volatile chemicals together, and when she had spilt the resulting mixture onto a tray, it had created some sort of portal. Curious, she had stepped through it.
And here she was, floating above a planet, not in space, but still defyingly high. Unfazed by the height, she watched the planet, it was mostly water, from what she could tell, with island chains dotted around. She could feel herself falling, falling down.
She silently watched the ground rising to meet him, her face strangely calm. The ground lurched forwards, she was going to land on one of the islands, one covered in a green landscape, vegetation no doubt.
She crashed into the ground, curled into a ball. There was a sharp pain to her right ankle, but little more than that. Strange, considering how she had fallen from such a height.
The Spia'Kor uncurled herself, there was a largist gash on her right ankle, and it hurt if she applied too much pressure on it, but nothing more, some bruising, perhaps, on her back. She felt the ground. She had landed on some mossy grass, very soft, extremely springy. She wondered where she was, what planet was this? Did any people live here? She pushed herself up, taking stock of his surroundings.
The first thing she noticed was a forest of crystals. No...she hobbled over to one and felt it, it was soft, though still firm. Looking closely she could see small veins running through the crystalline structures.
~Are these...plants?~ There was no way they could be...but she could see sap bring transported through the veins.
~Plants shaped like crystals? What an interesting world...~
She hobbled through the forest, marvelling at the sheer alien look of the plants, but there was no life, and very little breeze. Soon she had arrived at the island edge. A turquoise sea spread out before her, as far as she could see. She dipped her hand into the water, it was warm, and pretty shallow. Peering closely, she could distinguish small jellyfish-like creatures, moving away from her hand,
~Let there be life!~ she thought, grinning inanely.
She watched the jellyfish for a while, before turning back. How was she to get home? She went through her pockets, seeking anything that could help.
~Ah...I've still got a vial of that stuff that got me here...~
She carefully poured a drop onto the ground. A swirling portal shimmered into existence,
~Hmm, well let's hope this gets me home, and not back up into the atmosphere.~
She cautiously stepped through, and the portal vanished from existence. _________________

~~Victoria~~
"What was that thing?" Victoria asked, staring after it.
"I don't know," her twin replied. "It almost looked kinda like a cat, though, so let's call it a treecat."
"How very imaginative."
"I don't see you coming up with anything better. At least it's descriptive."
"Point taken," Victoria conceded, taking a look around. "We'll need to find somewhere to set up the tents. And find some sort of food. Beside that river there looks like a good place for the former, though the latter might be a bit harder..." In truth, Victoria couldn't see any wildlife nearby, though she thought she spotted a flash of fur or a shine off eyes every so often in the trees. _________________ Characters:

About half the Shin were taken care of when they noticed what was happening to their pack. They would have noticed earlier, had they normally hunted in packs. This was the first time in recorded history that the Shin hunted together.
The largest Shin, a silver one, turned to Leh. It barked* a command and the half dozen tensed up to pounce on Leh.
(*The voice of a Shin is a lot like a wolf or a dog.)
They leaped forward when a sudden shockwave knocked them back. A few more well placed Mobs essentially cut the remaining Shin to ribbons. Leh looked up. On top of a thick vine was a single Chirop, who was juggling three Mobs. The chirop's is a basic brown, but it has odd white markings on it's skin; the markings are long lines curving around the body in some sort of unknown pattern.
"Who are you?" Leh asked.
"I am Taavi." The Young Chirop responded.
((AHAHA! I told you I'd bring him in!))
((I should mention, that as of this post, you may request to enter this world)) |

((*Insert list of expletives about the edits shown as new posts here* Also I seem to have cut off the last post I did rather abruptly, sorry about that . May as wel continue, huh? ))
Kheesth watched the Yallian with great interest, it seemed that the pale Hard-Shell found her just as interesting as the snake woman did. The Tezcan was inclined to believe that their patience would have run out by now if all they wanted was for them to leave, rather than letting Halyan keep asking them questions.
"Halyan" Zeckul said, unable to keep his silence up for much longer and quite disturbed by what was happening to his companion "you're talking to yourself. They're not answering, they're not saying anything. Did you eat a mushy fruit before we left? You know I saw this happen once before when there were more of us this spawn ate a mushed up fruitandhestartedtalkingtooneofthekillertreesand-"
Zeckul hadn't noticed the hand above him on it's way down until it was too late, and it was the reason he suddenly started talking really fast in order to get his bit out before he was silenced by long, serpentine fingers holding his jaw shut with incredible strength.
"I understand" Halyan said, and just as suddenly as they had appeared the honour guard of soldiers made it's way both down the hole and back the way they'd come along with the pale creature. All except three that is, who remained behind in a triangle formation around the precious entrance.
Kheesth released Zeckuls jaw, turning her attention back to Halyan. Of course, Zeckul took this opportunity to fire as many questions as he possibly could before he ran out of breath.
"Wow that was so weird, they all just went away. Why'd they leave all of a sudden? Why were they blocking us? Could you really talk to them? I don't think you could, I couldn't hear a thing! I don't think they'd be able to with those mouths!" Zeckul stopped, thankfully, as something else hit him "Wait... why didn't they attack us?"
"Would you want someone in our home?" Halyan asked Zeckul, turning all three black eyes on the male before she realised what she'd just said "oh... after us, there'll be no home there anymore"
"Well" Zeckul answered "no, not really, if we were still there. Oh, right..." Zeckul had to stop speaking once again as he had to concentrate far more in hanging on to the serpentine Summoners muscular arms whilst she lowered both him and Halyan back to the ground. Kheesth wasn't about to carry the two creatures around with her like she was some sort of transport service.
"Once we find the others, you'll have a home again" Kheesth told Halyan, attempting to bring her round from her sudden bout of depression at being reminded of the old, ruined tree colony. "but you'll have to tell us what the Hard-Shells told you about the other Yallians first"
"Hey" Zeckul said, clicking to get their attention and slightly annoyed, judging by the tone in his voice "you haven't answered any of my questions yet"
"Patience is a virtue Zeckul" Kheesth told the male, hoping he'd get the message that those questions would be answered in due time "for now we need to know where the others are. You can get your answers as we travel, or we might have to spend more... dark times than we need to"
"Okay Kist" Zeckul said, in a subdued tone of voice that he'd never used with any other Yallian in his life "I'll wait. Where are they then Halyan?"
The female stared at the male, visibly pulling herself back together, she spoke "They showed me where to go, I can walk there from here" the female said, moving hesitantly off in a direction that, surprisingly, slanted away from the large body of water "but there are more of those killer creatures that way"
"Do not worry" Kheesth told her, her scales turning a slightly lighter green now that they had some clue to follow "I'm not about to lose you two now" _________________ Baker of the radioactive three-eyed flying purple cookie eating brownies!
