A small, adolecent grendel lumbered through a crowded market, attracting various stares from various people. The people of this small seaside town had never seen a grendel before. Sure, they had seen lizards and things that resembled it, but nothing quite like it.
The grendel clambered up onto a fruit stand and picked up an apple.
"Shadow eat fruit," it said calmly.
"Hey! That'll cost you 36 alphs," shouted the shopkeeper.
Shadow had no idea what an alph was, and if he did, he wouldn't of had any anyways. He was a grendel, not an accountant. He simply grinned and took off running.
"Stop that... thing!" the shopkeeper cried as he chased after him with a large mallet. Shadow had no problem outwitting the shopkeeper and soon the clerk lost track of him.
He burst into the door of an old abandoned house, and said clearly:
"Shadow approach."
A black gloved hand reached from the shadows and pulled him in with it.
Shadow lay down comfortably and looked around for anything unusual. The Shadow World looked fairly typical. Same infinite blackness. Same ocasional patches of light that were really shadows in the normal world and could act as portals between the two. Same Goron.
Goron sat in front of the reptile and took a bite of the apple, absentmindedly petting Shadow while he stared off into space. It had been 4 years since the battle of GORON island. Actually, Goron had no idea what the year was, but he had wandered through portals for the past four years with his faithful grendel companion. For four years the two of them had looked for Eighteen, the only other surviving member of the GORONs. She had disapeared into the warp as they escaped the island, and that was the last Goron had ever seen of her.
The portal that the two GORONs escaped through had some adverse effects when the duo had used it. First off, Goron had noticed that it sent them to seperate locations. Goron had ended up in the Shee Starship and found Shadow, but Goron had no idea where Eighteen got to. But stranger still, when Goron first used the warp somthing else strange occured. Whenever it seemed necesary, a random portal would appear and wisk him away to some other dimension or time where he would be needed. Once that task was completed, the warp would open up again and send him off to some other place.
Goron finished eating his half of the apple and gave the other part to Shadow. The grendel hungerily devoured the remenants of the fruit. He then proceeded to make a large burp.
Goron was still trying to figure out this reality. Nothing seemed amiss here. He had only been here for an hour, but still, usually somthing showed its head by now.
No sooner had this thought crossed his mind when a large expolosion rocked the ground outside the house. He and Shadow burst from the shade ((And hit some guy with a "YAY" Grenade )). Goron poked his head outside and saw a ship with tattered sails bombarding the port town from its harbor. That had to be it. There was nothing else that could require Goron's assitance here.
Grendel and ninja strolled down the street toward the harbor. Buildings were destroyed on both sides of the streets by the incoming hail of fireballs. The pair reached the edge of the port just as the ship was landing. A towering dark figure stood on the bow of the ship, at least 10 feet high. He overlooked the town and called out in a voice that made the ground shake:
"I am Korsiel, God of Darkness, conqueor of worlds! Bow before me!"
Townsfolk all around the two of them fell to their knees in an attempt to gain the Dark Spirit's mercy.
"You there," he growled at Goron, "I said bow!"
Goron disregarded the order and drew his katana instead.
The Dark God decended from his ship, laughing.
"Puny mortal. You really think that your weaponary can even touch me?" With that, he swung out his own sword and smacked Goron in the side of the head with its flat face, knocking him unconsicous. Shadow leapt to defend his master, but the Knight's skeleton gaurds siezed him and dragged them both onto his ship.
"Fool..." the Spirit mumbled to himself. He turned and left with a wisk of his cape. His ship set sail back toward the horizon from where it had come.
As the Shadow was being dragged into the hold beneath the ship he saw the Spirit hurl a ball of dark energy at the harbor town, destroying it utterly.
---
Goron awoke in a daze. He opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was a great red eye. As you might have guessed this frightened him immensely. He crawled backward quickly only to realize that the eye belonged to Shadow. Goron breathed a sigh of releif and took in a view of his surroundings.
The brig was quite dark. All the other cells were filled with creatures and humans alike. Goron and Shadow were lucky to have a cell to themselves. A pair of skeletons were leaning on the door having a conversation in a foreign tounge.
"How foolish of them to lock me in here," Goron tought to himself, "where I am within my own element."
With that he merged with a nearby shade, and entered the Shadow Realm. Goron manuvered around so that he was behind the wall where the skeletons were conversing. He reached out of the shadows, grabbed both their heads, then smashed them together. Both skeletons appeared unfazed. Goron ripped himself from the Realm of Darkness back into the real world.
The two skeletons stood in a combat stance, both weilding scimitars. Goron was unarmed, but his training on GORON island had prepared him for such a confrontation. Both skeletons attacked simultaneously, and Goron rolled inbetween them, taking one by the arm. The other one swung its scimitar at Goron and Goron used the other skeleton to deflect the blow.
Goron twisted around the one in his grasp and flipped it over his shoulder, effectively disarming it. It was immediately on its feet and drew a daggar. Goron tossed his scimitar from hand to hand.
"You two should eat your vegetables. You look a little skinny!" he said as he decapitated one of them. The other came at him with its daggar and he easily cut it in two.
However, the first one stood back up... without a head. The one that had been split in half crawled around on the ground. Aparently it took a bit to kill these guys.
Again Goron parried the blow from the only skeleton that still had its scimitar. Goron took his own scimitar and pinned the skeleton to the wall with it.
The other one swiped at his ankles. Goron mumbled somthing like "they just don't make these things like they used to." as he kicked it into the wall where it fractured in 206 pieces.
Goron knocked the locks from the prison cells with the other scimitar, freeing the prisoners. They all gathered around Goron and Shadow.
"Alright... we've gotta get some weapons so we can fight the skeletons and Korsiel." The prisoners looked at him ludicrisly.
"Does anyone know where they keep the weapons?" he asked the prisoners.
"I know," said an old creature, the likes of which Goron had never seen, "The weapons are on the far side of the dining hall."
The creature pointed to a door oposite the skeletons.
"Good. You all wait here. I'll be right back."
Goron vanished into a shadow and walked through the dining hall, undetected by the skeletons that were sitting there. Goron was begining to wonder why a ship full of skeletons needed a dining hall when he reached the weapon storage.
There were scimitars and daggars lining the wall. Goron also noticed his katana and other weaponary piled in the corner. He grabbed these first and strapped them to his back. Then he loaded up with as many other weapons as he could, and crossed back through the dining hall via the Shadow Realm again.
Back in the hold, he armed any who were able to fight. Goron walked to the end of the hold with the skeleton pinned to the wall, and cracked the door open. Shadow peered out and saw skeletons crawling over the whole deck. He turned to Goron and nodded. The small army burst from the doorway onto the main deck.
The skeleton crew stared at them for a moment, then attacked. Soon the two sides were locked in a heated battle. Rain began to pelt the combatants, and lightning ignited the air around them.
Goron swiped a skeleton off the side of the ship, and desintigrated another one with a couple of well placed laser shots.
Several skeletons surrounded him. Goron searched around frantically and grasped a rope behind him. A quick swipe from his katana sent him skyward up onto the boom. More skeletons were there to greet him.
Shadow dashed around taking out the undead warriors by taking their lower legs. A kick here, a kick there, and a few more plunged into the sea. Shadow dodged left and right as skeletons poured down with the rain from Goron's combat on the boom.
The small battle did not go unnoticed by Korsiel. The dark spirit burst from his quarters to find his ship a wreck. As you may have guessed, this geatly enraged him. He screamed with fury as he drew his sword, and with a single swing, killed five prisoners.
Shadow was toppling the last of the skeletons overboard when he heard Korsiel. The grendel turned to face the darkness God and saw him killing prisoners with his gigantic blade. Goron dropped down beside Shadow and handed him a shuriken.
"Everyone get behind us. No one else stands a chance against this guy," he said. The prisoners were more than happy to oblige.
"It matters not. I will kill you all shortly after I deal with you two," the Dark Spirit growled.
Goron and Shadow attacked simultaneously, Goron swiped at Korsiel's side and Shadow attacked him from the front. The Dark Lord blocked both these swipes with ease and sent them flying backwards across the boat. Goron absorbed both his Shadow's impact by entering the Shadow Realm. Shadow reappeared right where he had left, but Goron exited the Shadow Realm from behind Korsiel, taking him by surprise.
The God of Darkness stumbled foward, a cut across his back. Shadow took this oportunity and swiped him in the face with the skuriken. Korsiel fell to the side, but kept his balance. He glared at the pair.
"You fools! Your mortal weaponary cannot hurt me!" as he said this the gashes that had just been inflicted on him healed themselves.
"You see? Resistance is futile," the Dark Lord bellowed.
Goron revanished into the Shadow Realm.
"You think you can defeat me in my own Realm?" called the Spirit. he then proceeded to vanish into a shadow. Goron came flying out with a cut along his chest and a broken katana, and Korsiel resurfaced, unscathed.
"Now you see that your efforts to defeat me are pointless," Korsiel said. With that he began pummeling them both with dark energy balls. Goron leapt clear of the blast, but Shadow wasn't so lucky.
A darkness ball hit him square on, throwing the grendel into the wall behind him.
"Nooo!" Goron landed beside him and grabbed his claw. Shadow was badly hurt.
"C'mon Shadow, don't leave me now. I need your help. Don't die. Please don't die," there were tears forming in Goron's eyes, "Don't go... Shadow..."
But it was too late. The sparkle that had always been there passed from the grendel's eyes.
"Shadow... love... Goron..." was the last thing he could manage before the darkness overtook him ((GW regulars may find that familar... or maybe not)).
Goron let the claw fall to the ground. A single drop of water fell from his face and splashed on the deck of the boat. All the sorrow drained from him. It was replaced by pure hatred. Goron began to breathe heavily. He turned to face Korsiel, a fire in his eyes.
Goron reached down and picked up his broken sword, which, to the the God of Darkness' surprise, burst into flame. The flame was pitch black and did not burn. The other piece of the katana also ignited, and lifted itself from the deck. The two pieces merged together and the flame spread from the tip of the blade downward, eventually reaching its wielder. The dark flame surrounded Goron like an aura.
Korsiel was not going to wait any longer, he tore across the boat and swung his sword, blade-first into Goron's head.
Goron saw the blade coming seemingly in slow motion. He raised his katana and blocked the blow. Where the two blades connected a huge explosion rocked the ship, sending the Darkness Lord flying backwards.
Goron's eyes were now glowing white, his pupils had vanished. He swung at Korsiel from across the ship and a shockwave of shadow ripped accros the deck, tearing up planks, before it reached Korsiel.
The wave tore the God in two at his waist. The two pieces of him began to desintigrate. His upper half stretched out one arm in an attempt to reach Goron, but it was in vain.
The God of Darkness could not deal with the shame of losing. With his last breath he uttered a curse and then exploded. The firey aura around Goron vanished, and he was knocked backwards with the rest of the ship's passengers. He tried to focus, but he was in to much pain. Darkness enveloped him.
---
Goron opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was a great red eye.
"Hi Shadow," he mumbled, "Ugh... where are we?"
He sat up and looked around. Half the ship's deck was ripped apart, and a large explosion looked as though it had taken place. Several of the prisoners were wandering the boat. None of them could remember anything except a battle with some skeletons.
"I guess we won then," Goron said, confused. He rose to his feet. A warp portal had just appeared.
"Fare thee well," he called to the prisoners as he and Shadow stepped in to the portal.
((Begin GW vs EC overlap))
GORON40 toppled out of another wormhole, followed by his faithful Grendel, Shadow. Shadow mumbled somthing that sounded like, "Oooh grah". Goron got up and dusted himself off, shaking his head. That last reality was... interesting. He recalled somthing to do with skeleton pirates, but not much else. He must of hit his head through the warp.
Shadow saw a small furry creature and chased it into a nearby bush. Goron stood up to get his bearings. He looked around and found himself to be in a park of some sort, with several other... things... hanging about one another.
As Shadow came back with his dead prey, Goron determined that this reality was going to make even less sense than the previous one... _________________ ~Goron~

Awesome work Goron, I really enjoyed reading that.
Although I have to wonder, if Shadow died from that attack (I think that was what happened), or was just really seriously injured like Goron, how'd they both appear perfectly fine after the fight? Did killing Korsiel do something? _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

Yeah... Korsiel didn't want anyone to remember that he had been beaten, so when he was being forced back into the netherworld, he reveresed some of the memory/time things... or somthing like that. _________________ ~Goron~
