Yeah, they're otherwise invisible from the outside world. It's like a Somebody-Else's-Problem field - people don't see it because they assume it's someone else's problem and they couldn't care less about other people's problems.
Yes, this even affects the heroic. We're that good, or bad, or other.

Nor do I think they care.

Or even just walking purposefully. I do it at home, I can walk straight past everyone and still sneak up to my computer with being stuck with any jobs or reminders 99.99% of the time lol.
