I was wondering, how do I tell that joining a certian RP will get me medals? Where do you find the major RPGs?

Feel free to mock me if this is a really stupid question, so long as you answer as well.

Not a stupid question. The simple answer is: You can't.

Once an RP reaches 10 pages (or has a significant event), it is voted on for an RP of the month. RPs of the month participants (10 posts or more usually) receive medals.

So if you want medals, join as many RPs as you can. That or wait until an RP hits 9 pages and spam the hell out of it...

Looks like Goron beat me to it, he's right about everything of course (except for that last part Razz).

If you're looking for a hint as to what's going to be major, usually an RP that threatens the fate of Blackstar and/or the multiverse at large tends to get a lot of RPers and manages to get to the ten page count pretty quickly.

Right-o, then.

Darn it! I only have three characters, and only two are free! And those two need to go together. How am I going to participate in enough RPGs to get a medal with so few characters? Shocked Sad

Easy. No RPs that are taking place at the same real life time are during the same BS time. Your character can role play in as many spots as he/she wishes.

Yeah, but what if something about the character changes? Like something major happens in one thread and they get a new power or something? Or they die? What then? Does it affect all the other threads?

Unless specified by the thread starter (and you should ask), feel free to determine where in the time line of your character each RP occurs.

Obviously if you die in a role play, you might have to reconsider your time line/get revived somehow.

This is how it gets confusing. Probably even worse over different forums.

If you transport characters over different forums, then they don't affect each other and neither do changes in their status. To let them affect each other is just madness.

That's the reason I can't bring Anice over, because the situation in which she became an Adpet didn't happen here, yet I can't imagine her any other way.

As a rule, I have only one active thread per character. Otherwise I'll just get tied in knots. Rolling Eyes

That's a good idea, which I also follow.

Actually thats entirely up to you.

Blackstar was originally founded by members of the Creatures forum so many of us kept the characters we'd had there, many of which we'd been using for years and on multiple forums. In fact sometimes characters themselves will mention other forums like Gameware or Treepsrites Grove as another place within their world (admittedly one thats usually only reachable by some form of teleportation.)

If you want to keep your characters to a specifc forum thats fine, but if you do want to bring them to a new one you shouldn't feel you can't just because they've developed somewhere else. All you need to do is to include the changes that have been made in their character sheet, if nessesary along with an explaination of what exactly it means (such as what an Adpet is). If you want you can go into more detail, re-telling any RPs where they were signficantly changed as part of their backstory in either the character thread or the Ampitheater.

Same with using the same character in multiple RP's. No one will complain if you do but if you don't feel comfortable doing it then thats fine.

As for how changes in one RP will affect them in another, again thats up to you. In general my approach is that I set out how my character is at the start on an RP and then anything that happens to them outside of that RP won't count within it. But if I want to I'll include those changes in later RP's.

With practice you can pull it off quite effectively. For example one of my characters, Danielle, is currently being used in Neverwinter Nights 2, Morrowind, Guild Wars, the Last Stand RP here and random stories I make up in my head when I'm bored. All at the same time.
So what I do is I have a sort of 'ideal' image of her in my mind (what I call the 'real' Danielle) and then I adapt that for each situation (esspecially the games where I'm limited by their character creation system).
Once she's been definied for each RP/game anything that happens in another one won't change her, but if in the course of that I find something happens that I like I'll add that changed to the real model in my head and use it in future incarnations.

It sounds complicated I know but I've lost good characters (mainly Danielle's predesessor Dawn) because they got so tied to one incarnation that I didn't feel right using them anywhere else, so I prefere to keep my characters free to change.

Morrowind? I've never thought of moving RP characters onto there... I wonder why. I was playing Morrowind just before I came here. It crashed my computer -_-

I might try using my character (Shavo) in multiple RP's to see if it works out. If it doesn't I'll go back to your (and mine) way. (That was Intyalle I was talking to in that last bit)

I haven't played Morrowind for ages, and only ever got to play it once at that.

I tend to play things like Torment (imagine having Nameless One here, the god-modding one would be accused of Twisted Evil), Icewind Dale I and II, Bauldur's Gate II (we don't have I! Shocked) and the like. I couldn't really transfer those characters because I don't have much of a connection with them, and they would wilt and die out of their current enviroment.

Thanks for the tip, Danikat. I might just transfer Anice from before her "death", where I gave her a new power to excuse her still being alive. I didn't want her to be a Spirit Wanderer, it doesn't fit right. But then, it's better than dead.

Admittedly, if someone doesn't help her, she will be anyway, and then I'll definately transfer her.

In this case, Adept just means being able to affect Spirit as well as the other elements. In the case of Shifters, it means being able to 'shift others and 'shift directly between shapes without changing to your own shape in between.

Dani's absolutely right, of course.

Due to the nature of Psychotopia, there is no "group" continuity here unless you make it so - Feel free to pull any instance of your character into a RP - for example, we had one a while back where everyone was a young child, then one as geriatrics, a half story/half RP in the distant future, more heavy on technology, and many in between.

Ultimately, think of Blackstar RP's as branching timelines in the multiverse - it's up to you if you want any or all of them to become your new foundation, or if you're content simply exploring the possibilities. Death of your character in one RP doesn't mean their demise in any others, and new quirks, traits, powers, events, and changes only affect other instances if you choose to let them.

The only limits here are your imagination, and fair play towards others.

Thats why Dawn got left behind in Baldurs Gate (and its sequals/add-ons). While I was playing it I was sort of mentally building on the backstory the game gave you to create one of my own, and at the end of it I had a really cool character but one so closely tied to that game that I couldn't imagine using her anywhere else.

I have to admit my tendancy to re-use characters isn't entirely deliberate though. I'm also lazy and its easier than inventing new ones all the time, esspecially since I tend to have a similar approach to all RP's, be it a game or online.

But it does also have its practical applications, its interesting letting a character develop and grow in a variety of environments, sometimes it can lead to them doing things you wouldn't expect.
