Akki Uchiwa

Akki Uchiwa literally translates to "demon fan".

Structure:
A pair of fans made of panels of steel which are connected together to form the shape. Each panels' tip is thinned to a razor sharp point. The panels are connected in such a way that it allows the user to curve the fans inward or outward depending on the way he or she holds it. The way the panels overlap, each panels' edge at a diagonal, allows no space between them and makes the whole fan a shield as well as a weapon. When the fans are unfurled, they act somewhat like daggers.

Size: When the fans are unfurled, they reach a length of half a foot from base to tip. When the fans are furled, they made a half circle with the diameter of about a foot.

Usage: They are normally used in a pair with one in each hand.

Materials: These fans are normally made of some sort of metal such as steel, iron, or copper. Specifically in Nynave's case (my character), the fans had been made with bit of demonic essence- hence the name.

Theory/Concept: Because the fans had been made with the essence of the same demon, they stay together. It's the same idea as if you chopped off the foot of a demon. That foot will somehow make its way back to it's owner.

The amount of essence used in the making is slight enough so that the fans will not permanently stick together. However, it's enough so that once the fans reach a certain distance apart from each other, the fan farthest away from the owner will come back.

The amount of time that ellaspes in order for the fans to be back together depends on how far the distance the fans are away from each other. The farther the fan, the faster the speed the fan will come back at, and the lesser the time.

This somewhat similar to two strong magnets with the exception of the pull between the two become stronger the farther apart they are rather than when they're closer together.

However, many seconds past before the "essence" kicks in and the fan returns. This allows the fan to be thrown out at high speeds with the reassurance that, like a boomerang, it will return. Just not as smoothly, and there is a bit of a pause in between going away and coming back.

This technique though is not without it faults. The fan can only go about a maximum of a couple meters though. It will not be able to leave any farther.

Also, there's the problem that the fan get's stuck somehow and is unable to come back. In that case then, the fan, along with the owner, will make it's way towards the other fan. It all depends on which end of the pull is stronger.

To limit this problem, the two fans do not have an equal amount of demonic essence. In Nynaeve's case, the fan that she normally uses in her left hand has less demonic essence than the one normally used in her right hand. This "left" fan is also the one that she usually tosses as a form of ranged attack.
