Hermes Trismegistus
Species: Psychopomp
Species Background: A psychopomp is any number of beings or creatures who's function is the ferrying of dead souls to the afterlife. There are many popular examples of psychopomps including but not excluded to: Saint Peter, Azrael, Sandalphon, Charon, Hermes, Thoth, and one you'll all know Shinigami.
Physiology:Has the shape of a man, but with a few exceptions. First of all, he has to face. His head is a blank ball with a slight dent in the general area of where the mouth should be. On his right shoulder near the peak is the face of an Ibis. This face is completely motile and displays expressions, but lacks the ability to speak. From his back sprouts one feathered wing on the left side. The feathers which adorn it are gray and slight iridescent.
Supernatural Powers: Hermes Trismegistus has the ability to manipulate and create all manner of inks. He can extract an ink from any substance which contains any type of pigment or oil. Once extracted he can move it with a form of telekinesis. He also can transport anyone he wishes to a sort of "gray realm" which is a transitionary area between life and death. It is empty and can serve as a resting place or holding tank, depending on the situation.
Weaponry: Hermes uses a shepherd's crook which a blade imbedded in the inside of the curve. The staff has ribbons and bells draped around it and a pointed emerald tip.
Clothing: A series of thick, layered, robes and coats made of rich fabrics and in vibrant colors. They are thick enough and is large enough quantities to act as a sort of armor and make him look as though he's much heavier than he is. In addition to these, he wears a pair of winged sandals on his feet.
Origin: Hermes Trismegistus was born from the union of a god and a woman. He was then appointed as the psychopomp of his sphere.
History: Hermes' mother died at his birth, being physically destroyed from the task of giving birth to the monstrosity. And so, he lived a sad and lonely life, providing for himself in that cottage for his first three years. Upon the third day of his third year he was taken by the eccentric shepherd, Poimandres, and he tended Poimandres' flocks and did his workings. At his fifth birthday, he took a scythe from the field and stuck it in the crook of his staff. With it, he murdered the slothful Poimandres. However, killing his only fellow human was too much for his psyche to bear, and he severed his own head with the scythe. His father saw what had happened from the heavens and reached down his hand. He took the body of Hermes and fashioned a new head for him from the dust of the earth. He then set Hermes down and gave him governance over the souls of the recently departed and gave him the duty of ferrying them to their afterlife. |
