This is something that was posted on the Fanfic forum I visit as a tool for helping to develop a character and give them more personality, and it should work just as well with RP characters.
Essentially you (or someone else) has to interview your character. You can add questions but the five key ones you have to ask are:
What do you want?
Who or what is standing in your way?
Whats your greatest strength?
What gets you into the most trouble?
What are you going to do to resolve this dilemma?
Its also recommended to write down as much as possible about the response, not just what they say but how they say it and what they're doing as they say it. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Could we add this to either the training dojo or something as general training guide, or perhaps nominate certain people to ask them in the character sheet thread, or perhaps try and set up a roleplay fpor them... That way, we'll be kind of gently setting someone into our roleplay style quickly, but without you know, throwing them in at the deep end..?
Just an idea... _________________ Books are source of knowledge, knowledge source of power, power is source of corruption, corruption is crime.Reading books will get you imprisoned!

Possibly. I did think about putting it in the training dojo.
But its inteded to be a way of getting the user to think about their characters answerers more than anything else, I never thought about trying to turn it into actual RP'ing. Although I suppose it could work. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

Perhaps then in the greeting thread, we make sure we point towards the character section, Hall Of Records.. And the character sheet template could be edited, so that we add the character development tool as a way to get newcomers to think about their characters carefully, they don't have to actually add it to their character sheet though...
And once posted, we could offer to roleplay the conversation...? Not mandatory, but, voluntary... _________________ Books are source of knowledge, knowledge source of power, power is source of corruption, corruption is crime.Reading books will get you imprisoned!

That's a pretty cool idea. I never thought of that before. Generally when I create a character, I start with the bare bones of who they are and what they look like, then chuck them in the deep end in a random RP and let them develop on their own.
But this is pretty awesome as well. I may have to try it sometime. _________________ LYNCH'S X-TREME POST-APOCALYPTIC ROOFTOP BEACH VOLLEYBALL |
