Humans
The most populous race in the Gurhal System, and the original race from which the others were derived. Humans tend to be all-purpose, with a good balance in abilities. They are not especially poor at anything, and can manage any kind of occupation. On the other hand, they don't excel in any one area. They primarily live on Parum.
Historical background
Humans are the most populous race in the Gurhal System, but their position in society is not necessarily very high.
This can be seen in the distribution of power determined at the end of the 500-year war. The three planets are ruled by CASTs, newmans and beasts, and humans do not have a planet of their own.
The other races, while not as balanced as humans, are superior in specific areas. Rather than being considered the original race, humans are considered a sub par race with limited abilities.
Newmans
Newmans were born of humans as the result of an attempt to create a superior species. Although their physical abilities fall short, their magic and spiritual abilities excel and they are masters of TECHNICs. Due to their diminutive physical stature, they are ill-suited for close combat. They primarily live on Neudaiz.
Historical background
Newmans were born of humans as the result of an attempt to create a superior species. They far outpace the average human in terms of reaction time, intellect and memory, but their physical strength is uniformly weaker than those of a human. Due to an inferiority humans felt towards the newmans' extraordinary spiritual abilities, and the superiority of the humans' increased physical strength, human persecution of newmans ran rampant. To help quell this competitiveness, Neudaiz was designated the home of newmans and a mutual non-aggression pact was signed.
Newmans are known for their charming nature, however they are also known to be very exclusive. As a result of their increased spiritual abilities, they are much more sensitive than humans, and have the ability to read others' thoughts and feelings. Newmans have a tendency to avoid deep contact with strangers.
Beasts
A race genetically engineered for hard labor and mining in a rigorous environment. They excel in physical strength and their specialty is close-quarters combat. Their weakness lies in weapons like guns and TECHNICs, where concentration is necessary. Some beasts have the ability to nanoblast, and transform into larger beast-forms.
They primarily reside on Moatoob.
Historical background
The beast was bred for hard labor and mining in the rigorous environment of Moatoob. For a long time, beasts were treated as slaves by humans. Using their physical prowess, beasts eventually escaped human rule and were able to gain an equivalent level of respect from the other races through commerce, taking advantage of the abundant natural resources on Moatoob
A pleasant characteristic of beasts is their cordiality, however they are very easily excited. This disposition has led many beasts to lawless behavior, such as piracy. They are very mindful of their families and often open up to fellow beasts very easily. On the other hand, due a long period of discrimination, they are often quite cold towards CASTs.
Because there are so many hot-blooded beasts, conflict abounds in cities. As a safety precaution, it is forbidden for beasts to transform within city limits. Offenders are met with harsh punishment.
CASTs
Originally created by humans for labor, artificially created life forms, CASTs, currently rule the planet Parum. Because their spiritual abilities are less than that of the other species, they are unskilled with TECHNICs, but they excel with guns due to their precise mechanical abilities. They also have the ability to wield huge weapons called "SUV weapons." They primarily live on Parum.
Historical background
CASTs were originally created by humans as laborers, but problems arose when sentient CASTs began demanding rights. As a result of their war for independence, a system of CAST supremacy over humans was established.
After the CAST supremacy was established, Parum welcomed a period of overwhelming peace, unheard of in the days when the lands were divided by human-controlled governments. Ironically, the "dangers of machine rule" that were touted by human politicians during the war never manifested, and the reality is that the social system was welcomed by the majority of the public who wished only for peace.
They are machines, and hence rationalists. Their strong point is in management, but because of their inflexibility, they are disinterested in the subtleties of human emotion. |
