There are many ideas from where it came from, most people over here believe it was started when the "gay community" used the term G.A.Y to stand for "Good. As. You." Like we said, there are many ideas for where it came from, Wikipedia says it derives from the Old French "Gai." From there it went to mean immoral lifestyle such as prostitution. Then it was narrowed down to terms now meaning "camp" then into now and the short past it turned to sexual orientation.
