*the Nitpicker hisses and flails his tendrils wildly in rage*
Curses, foiled by a bystander!
To regain a little bit of nitpicking stature, I shall point out that the correct latin term for man is 'vir' - 'were' or 'wer' means man in Old English, not Latin. Care to second this, Chronos?
As for my in-depth knowledge of Greek... I don't actually know the language very well at all, I just know how to use the internet
If you're looking for a word to describe all kinds of were-animals, I believe that therianthropy is the right term to use (from the Greek word 'therion', meaning 'wild beast', as well as 'anthropos', 'man'). Or if you really hate that, I guess zoanthropy is okay too.
EDIT: If we had a showdown for words then HisLordship would probably have to take part too, and he makes me look like an illiterate chimp _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

I like to be precise and technical, that's what nitpicking is all about _________________ If I'm not here, I'm probably over at...

Well there you go. I wrote a song about lycanthropes once! It was a parody of some song. i don't remember which now. Therianthropy... Didn't know that one. Neither did firefox's stupid spell-checker. _________________ Putteh! |

Yep. I was just trying to combine nit-picking with winning.
I'm using both on my site. Don't bother looking for my definition write-up of them though, all of those things lead to blank pages so far. I haven't even got the External magic definitions up yet. _________________ Characters:

Multiple definitions for something by the same name sounds fine, or you could simply add the Cosom or Realm name before the general term if you really have a very different species:
Cybertech Dragon
Oriental Dragon
Vampiric Dragon
Would all probably go under different topics, since they'd share very little in common with each other. If you find an entry for a species/race you'd like to add, read it over first and decide how much it has in common with your own idea/interpretation. If they're similar, simply add an amendment to that topic. One of the wonderful things about the Blackstar world is that beings from all over may exist, even in seeming contradictions. |
Thats probably the best solution.
I tend to refere to my dragons as Pernese dragons anyway because in the original books they were just called dragons and I needed a way to specify.
Which reminds me, at some point I really should write up a post about Pernese dragons and Firelizards. And I should probably dig out my DnD books and do something about half elves as well if I'm going to have Danielle around here. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

So do I, read Anne McCaffrey I mean . Where do you think I got the idea for Sallah? Although I originally had to adapt her to the X-Men universe before bringing her to this one... _________________ Baker of the radioactive three-eyed flying purple cookie eating brownies!

You'll find a fair number of McCaffery fans, I've read almost everything she's written, and I own the majority of her works. *looks fondly at her bookshelf* Just finished re-reading The Rowan this morning.
We tend to borrow liberally and freely from the many worlds familiar to us, and distill the whole down into the chaos-that-somehow-works that we know as Psychotopia and Blackstar Dojo. _________________

Anne McCaffery's Pern series is probably my all time favourite book series. I've read them all, including all the short stories, far too many times.
I have to admit I'm a bit behind on her other stuff though, I've read the Crystal Singer series, some of the Acorna series and random books or short stories from others but not nearly as much as I'd like to.
But yeah, way back in the days of the old DS forum and insane power-plays I wanted a way to make my chracter a) cooler and b) a lot more powerful and Pernese dragons seemed like the obvious solution. Or rather one dragon (Alzaranth), one fire-lizard (Lopp) and one weapon of mass destruction masequerading as a dragon (Veamoth). _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

This has taken an un-surprising turn. I like the Darren Shan series *shot*
I also liked the Hannibal Lecter one, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, The Bourne series. Well, the first one and the movies. _________________ Putteh! |
