Oooooooh. Ego scripts versus puns... Who would win...?

GBE: Standing in the blue corner, is the famed ego script. Weighing a hefty word count, adding size to its power. Feel the fear!

Addman: Aaaaaaaaaaand in the red corner are the puns. Smaller and lighter, therefore faster, with a much quicker strike rate.

GBE: Both of these competitors have a lot of experience, and are boh used by top comedians.

Addman: They are?

GBE: Of course.

Assman: Like who?

GBE: Well, all of them. They all do ego scripts. Just look at Lee Evans, a clever man with puns, but he also does ego scripts. An ego script i acting out more than one person.

Addman: Oh G, you're so clever!

GBE: For the love of God! Stop rubbing cookie dough on my face!

Addman: *Gurgles like Homer when he sees a doughnut*

GBE: Tell me your tongue is not in my eye!

Addman: Mffmfmfmfmmff

Crowd: *Shcoked gasps, with a faint giggity floating above them all*

((On another note, I did a google search for ego scripts. Results came back as hypnotherapy, internet and msn scripts that 'boost' your ego, something about Jesus amongst other things. Blackstar and The EC, nowhere to be seen. How awful is that? We must change the world!

Oh, and welcome back Embri! Surprised *hugcharges!*))

Strange, being an admin on a forum is one of the...well maybe not hardest but most stressful things I've ever done voluntarily.

I've never even understood people who see being a moderator as some kind of perk or a reward. It basically amounts to when you get off school or work or whatever it is you do all day you come home and get to do more work when you're trying to enjoy yourself.

Not that I'm trying to put people off here, I'm just saying its not all shiny badges and admiration. You do have to work as well.

Let's get one thing straight here, as Danikat said in fewer words:

Modship/Adminship = voluntary slave labor.

No pay, plenty of work, and no reward beyond the warm fuzzy feeling of helping others. (Though that's a pretty good reward in my opinion.)

End of story.

Really? I've always enjoyed the authority to tell little dumb-bleeps like DLM to get lost. Maybe it's a personality thing?

Admins on the other hand...

[Edit: Come on Net, I'm not supposed to be administering my own mods!]

I do not look forward to having to deal with rule breakers.

Maybe it's my non-confrontational personality. Don't get me wrong, when it needs to be done, I'll do it with no hesitation, but I can't say I enjoy it.

I'd be much happier if Blackstar needed no moderation, and everyone just got along perfectly, but that's an idealistic and naive expectation.

The truth is that there will always be trolls, spammers and the misguided along with everyone else, and as part of the administration, it's my job to try and keep the forums on track and problem free. Think of it as pruning for a plant. Keeps things neat and tidy.

I don't know, I think adminship and modship is fun. Sure, its a lot of work, but I enjoy work. Especially that kind of work. Its not for everyone, though. A great amount of people really hate adminship/modship. Its a matter of personal opinion and personality. If you're the type of person who really enjoys not only helping people out, but also an okay amount of power, respect, and control over your environment its a wonderful position for you. If you're the type of person who likes helping people, but doesn't like yelling at them, too much responsibility, or dealing with people its not the job for you. Everyone needs to find their own niche and adminship/modship is one of those niches.

Thats an interesting way of looking at it.

Have to admit I do really enjoy the helping people side of things. And whenever someone's asked me to be a mod I've felt really honored that they'd trust me with the responsibility. (Not quite the same the one time I was asked to be an admin because that was more a case of a lack of options than anything else.)

The power and respect thing I've never really got though. Aside from one person telling me they're afraid of talking to mods I never understood it.

wow.... Embri, You, and any other admins\mods here, Do not realize how lucky you are. Some people would kill for your type of power. If you REALLY think its that hard, You can just quit, Or you can just try crating an alt and tell no one about it, And find out that it is MUCH harder being a noobie then being the guy at the top.

Ah, Thats better. Thats MUCH better. Plus, I think you all forget that you can UBERIZE! yourself when you have such power. Infact, It makes me wonder: Why dont you administer dudes have all thoose badge thigns and whathaveyou and whatnot. Your at the top! And as long as you dont do anything like start a war or start killing jews, You can just be as hitlerisic as you want.

I think you mistook her, fellow Psycho.

I enjoy administering Blackstar, and could never dream of giving it up. But it's a high stress occupation. No matter what you choose to do, you will never make everyone happy. You paint a target on yourself for everyone's blame when things are quiet up to snuff.

Plus, most of the mods and Admins I have chosen are either college bound or already in college, thus they have alot of work outside Blackstar to keep up with. Some of us even have work outside of that (gotta have a way to make hosting payments should donations fall short).

Neither is it slavery though. All mods and Admins are free to give up their titles at any time...and most mods have relatively little to do (there are a few that have a load *cough cough archives cough*).

*gives his archives mod status to a nearby cat*

Yes, the archives mod isn't very good, is it? Always sleeping on the job, eating all the tuna fish, shedding it's fur everywhere...

Seriously though, I'll have to get on to some of that work. For starters I've got to upload everything in the right place, and then I've got to get to adding more threads. It would be nice if more forums had the 'view printable version' like Gameware does, those are way easier to copy and archive.
