Arriving on the Station

[Intyalle]

((It doesn't look like anyone else is making an RP yet, so I'm going to introduce my characters to the station and, hopefully, those already aboard. Riley first.))

riley fiddled with a scrap circuit board as the shuttle approached the station, her new home-to-be.
"Shuttle 15-BZ to CSS, I have your Chief Engineer aboard. Permission to dock?" said the man piloting her shuttle.
Riley's nerves were crackling. She rarely did well in new situations, and only hoped she would get settled in quickly.

[Coolpikaaa]

ZZZZzzzz.....

Coolpikaaa was sleeping in his captain's chair, a view of the whole dojo on screen.

"Shuttle 15-BZ to CSS, I have your Chief Engineer aboard. Permission to dock?"

Waking up with a start, coolpikaaa quickly pressed a buttons on the panel in front of him and sent his reply back.

"Ok Shuttle 15-BZ you are clear to dock."

Riley walked through the door of the shuttle as soon as it docked and looked around.
Riley had rarely ever been on a space station, normally she was on ships or planets. She looked around, wide-eyed and facinated, her fingers flicking by her sides.
Wonder if anyone will come to show me around, she thought. There was no way she could get used to this entire place on her own!

[Kazumaru]

Kazumaru swung through his doorway, and landed none too gracefully near Riley. He hopped to his feet, put his top hat back on, and bowed slightly to the new arrival.

"Uh, howdy." he said. "I'm Kazumaru. Spirit of Electricity. Used furniture salesman." The spirit stuck out his hand. "And you are...?"

Inwardly, Riley winced at the outstretched hand. She'd been hoping that this wouldn't come up so soon...
She pretended that she hadn't noticed the proffered hand and clasped her own hands behind her back to still their flicking.
"Leuitenant Commander Adams, Chief of Engineering," she replied.

[Kazumaru]

Kazumaru awkwardly pulled his hand back. "Uh. Alright."

~Hey, el cap-ee-tan, we've got someone down here... Claims to be a "Commander Adams"...~ he thoughtspoke to coolpikaaa.

"Uh... I guess the commander-" the spirit stressed that word "-will be down in a second... to greet you."

Riley nodded, then gazed around the bay. she couldn't wait to see Engineering, but she was going to have to. She just hoped that she wopuldn't start flapping.

((Because you introduced yourself as Commander Adams.

Or at least, that's how I read it the first time... I think the rank would just be Lieutenant, though.))

A Lieutenant Commander is an actual rank (from the navy), though Lieutenant and Commander are also two other different ranks. A Lieutenant Commander outranks a Lieutenant but is beneath a Commander. Seems like a kind of lazy halfway thing to me, but hey, I'm not in the navy, so I guess I wouldn't get it .

((Time for some nitpickery: Traditionally, space programs have ranks based on the Air Force ranks, not the Naval ranks.

Naval ones are defaulted to because of the common belief that space is an ocean.))

((I got the rank from both B5 and Star Trek. It was made (on actual Earth) because in wars, lieutenants were often put in command of the smaller vessels, and the crew started calling them "lieutenant in command" or "lieutenant commandant". Eventually it just becaume a full rank, and they are properly addressed as commander, although they are a rank lower.
Maybe airforce and naval ranks got crossed over because someone thought the sky was the sea, too. And in all sci-fi I've read/seen, it's always been naval that was used.))

((In the US Armed Forces, the Army and Air Force both use the same ranks for officers because the Air Force started out as a command of the Army (Army Signal Corps, to be exact).

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I grew up as a military brat (such a mistatement, if anyone deserve to be bratty, it's those that were drafted to serve their country by birth)

Faaru pilioted his own little ship to the CSS. It was unbelievable a firefox such as himself could even learn to drive a spaceship, but he had taught himself how to do so.

And now, he was flying above the Dojo, ready to dock with its new space station.

He figured he needed permission to dock, and so he pushed a circular red button on his craft's dashboard. There was some static, but it cleared up quickly.

"Faaru, ship 6-7-01, requesting permission to dock," he spoke into the radio.

[Coolpikaaa]

Coolpikaaa walked back to his chair with the full intent of going back to sleep.He was just about off to dreamland....

"Faaru, ship 6-7-01, requesting permission to dock."

Coolpikaaa jumped right out of the chair, and smacked his head on the console overhead.Picking himself up off the floor, he walked once more to the panel and sent an "OK" to the docking ship.

"Jack, tell those two to get out of the bay, we have a visitor."
