Seriously though... The Guardians, after a rampant revamp, will be doing open recruiting. Anyone of any skill level will be welcome to contact us for a trial duel against one of our members. We will be screening based on your duel performance, but don't be shy, get out there and show us your stuff! PM me or any Guardian for details.
You can expect to see Guardian hosted RPs and events on Blackstar, as well as our group to be playing crucial parts in major role plays. If you want to get in the action, apply today! Cross-membership with other groups welcome.

Mainly characters. Most groups around here allow for members to be in multiple groups, with separate characters. So to answer your question: One group per character, unlimited groups per member (probably).

We've got three groups of RPers: The Felbeasts, a relatively new and small group of RPers, the Guardians, who suck (sorry, EC regulation, can't say otherwise), and the absolutely awesome EC.
The EC stands for evil, and it's membership is hand-picked for awesomeness in RPing. It was the first RP group, originating before Blackstar and, if you're up on your EC/Blackstar history, before the Great CC Crash. DP was the headmaster (leader) of the EC before he founded Blackstar.
The Guardians are a fairly new group who stand to protect 'The Balance'. They're a lot smaller and probably a bit more disorganized than the EC, but they're the only real choice for Good RPers.
The Felbeasts are... Well, the Felbeasts. They're small, a tad disorganized and probably don't exist any more. They aren't all that influential, so I don't know much about them.

Well net pretty much summed it up... except for you know... the anti-Guardians/pro-EC propaganda.
The Guardians are really as close to good as anything gets around here. Mostly because preserving the balance usually means going against the EC...

They're around, but they operate a fair bit differently to most groups. Most of there characters seem to be based on the same sorts of principles, and they tend to use armies for some of their battles. Also, unlike with the EC and the Guardians, you can buy your way into the Felbeasts with no questions asked (just check their shop). The Felbeasts are probably the least active of the three groups, and you don't tend to see them very much.

As Goron's pointed out, the Guardians were meant to be a good group, but many people objected, saying that they wanted to be a part but that their characters weren't necessarily 'good'. In the end the Guardians were deemed to be protectors of the balance, the people who are there to stop anybody from getting too much power here in Blackstar.
As the Second-in-Command of the EC, I will instinctively tell everybody that the Evil Council is infinitely superior to the Guardians. But to be perfectly honest, I think that the Guardians have slipped a long way in the past few months. Lack of an active leader seems to have taken it's toll, I got barely any reply for the EC challenge I gave them a month or so ago. If I'd have done that last year, I'd probably have had to fight my way out of the Citadel just to tell the Council that they'd accepted .
That's not to say that they're a crap group mind you, just that they do need more members (and perhaps a bit more structure). They have a pretty decent reputation around here (which isn't very easy to get) and they'll probably help you with a bunch of other stuff too (training if you need it, getting belt upgrades, etc).
Alternatively, if none of the groups appeal to you, I guess you could always try to make your own.
