Game of the Year 2008

I know its not even Video game award season yet, but post your opinion for game of the year 08 ( 07/08 ). Halo looks like the clear winner with Brawl behind it, but with new releases like Mario Kart Wii, GTA 4 and Starcraft 2 (maybe) could possibly beat the favorite.

Halo 3: Overrated

Smash Bros: Kinda good, but you need to play so many old games to know the characters.

Mario Kart: It's in the mario universe. I hate mario

GTA 4: Okay, but i don't like the whole "Gangster" Enviroment

Actually, I don't like kerrigan. She's a backstabber.

P.s. I'd be a clear winner for the blackstar nerd olympics.

More than half of those aren't even released worldwide yet, are we supposed to judge them based purely on the hype? And if that's the case, where's Spore on that list? Razz

I agree with Zerrer, Halo 3 is massively overrated - it's more a brand-name than it is a game. I'm sure if the multitude of mindless masses who swear by it's greatness widened their extremely narrow views for just a second they'd find plenty of FPS games that are just as good as (if not better than) Halo 3.

Smash Bros. I've not yet played (living in Australia and all >_>), but it's probably the one game on that list that I'm most looking forward to playing. I'll admit that I'm thoroughly biased in saying that though, and it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best game.

Personally, I think that either GTA4 or Starcraft 2 should take the prize for this one, though it's hard to judge without having actually played them or seen any more than what their developers want us to see.

Oh yeah about that...sorry. To somewhat justify my decisions, it was games I saw recently and said "Wow! This is/would be a game and should be nominated as Game of the Year. And some of these games may not release until after the real award presentation (Yep thanks for the idea G-Phoria or however its spelled).

I personally don't care what other people say about Halo. I don't claim it's the best game in the world, but I enjoyed it a lot. Forge mode was particularly enjoyable.

The lack of bots in multiplayer sucked though. Apart from co-op, but you can't go against each other with an army on your side that way.

Starcraft 2 I'm immensely looking forward to. Especially if my computer can run it. Sadly I think I've lost a lot of my skills. I'll have to get reacquainted with the Zerg before the release I guess.

GTA I'm looking forward to. I don't expect it to be much different apart from the graphics. But that was one of the major problems I had with the previous games.

*shrugs*

Have to wait and see. Portal isn't on there I see. It should be. IMHOWISMMITY Portal would win by far.

Halo 3: It's a good end to a good trilogy in a universe with more depth than people seem to realise (though when you come down to the bare bones of it you're actually fighting a religious cult and a macroorganism). However it's good, it's not awesome. For game of the year atm I'd vote forone of the ones I've listed above.

Smash Bros. yeah, it's an excellent in-depth fighting game. But if you're a sucker for the story then it's not so good judging from Melee. Fighters rate 'average' on my gamescale anyway, can't say I'm very psyched about this one.

Mario Kart, maybe. I liked the DS version but you get bored really quickly if you can't find a Wi-Fi area or another person with a DS to play with. Also the Wii online sucks anyway, and I've heard rumours going around that you'll have to pay for access to it soon as well Sad

(although if this only applies to us lowly UK gamers I'm going to be really ****** off about it)

StarCraft I actually watched the whole battle sequence at the end, for a StarCraft game it seems to be to be kind of... slow. Sad

. Kerrigan is awesome though, she's so evil and manipulative and fun Twisted Evil

Unfortunately I don't want to get my hopes up too high after the fiasco that was StarCraft: Ghost.

GTA4 I'm looking forward to purely because the characters seem to have a lot of, well, character

. Also the graphics look amazing, but then I don't really like judging games purely on graphics, otherwise I probably would have bought LAIR. (Anyone remember Lost Kingdoms on the 'cube? So pretty but soooo bad)

In short, I'm not voting because most of these range on my 'meh' meter.

GTA4 I really want to see what it's like before even considering it. The series is quite old now so it may be the time that the really bad sequel comes out that ruins the whole series.

Also, Devil May Cry 4 needs to be on that list (although I've never played it, I so want to) and possibly Resident Evil 5. Mass Effect is definitely one that would get my vote, as would Assassin's Creed. I still need to get all those pesky flags though Sad

I can't think of any other games off the top of my head, mostly because the last time I updated my games collection I bought a few of the older games. Not immensely old, but old enough to not be of last year's variety.

Also I'd like to vote one of my games that I've made myself just because I can, rather than thinking it would win. Razz

As it's only three months into 2008, how could be tell? Plus, everyone has different views; personlly, I think Spore is gonig to be better, but someone else may think differently.

Portal should actually be on the list, though. It was a very good game.

Didn't Portal already come out in Orange Box, and remember, I'm kinda have short memory, so you'd think I wouldn't forget about Devil May Cry 4, Metal Solid Gear 4 and others, sadly I did, OK I admitted it.
