It's always been a mystery to me how we DON'T know what's on the other side when we have an orbiting space station. O.o
No one's bothered to look out the window, maybe? |

It's in a geostationary orbit above Kaz's lab.

So is blackstar a cube or a sphere?
And, of course we look out the window!
But all it is is just brown nothingness...
*Rubs off a nearby window to reveal the stars behind it*
Oh...
We should probably get someone for that..
WHO WANTS TO BE THE NEW CSS WINDOW CLEANER!?

I take offense to that, Chronos. The only programs that have TOUCHED MY MAP are Photoshop and Blender (for the cube shot only).
I DO NOT USE TERRAGEN. THAT IS A HAND DRAWN MAP.
The spherical shot was also hand rendered, without the aid of a 3-D application. The starscape is ALSO hand painted.
For the record: There is NO COMPUTER GENERATED TERRAIN in my work.

Well, there goes the big reveal.
NO, technically she is not back, she is just finishing up this one last piece of artwork as a personal favor for me. _________________

Sorry DP. Had to address that comment... it rankles in the worst possible way, you can insult my person, my thoughts, my ideas, but don't you dare ever equate this map, this work, which I have labored over for months, with something spat out by a bunch of algorithms. That I cannot allow.
And no, I'm not back. I'm not likely to ever be back. It's just a long goodbye. I have nothing to come back to. _________________

If it helps I've always found that computer generated textures and images are instantly recognisable as computer generated, they never quite look right.
(It's one thing that always bothers me about the recent trend towards 3D rendering for Creatures agents.)
That on the other hand looks amazing, I'm tempted to make it into my wallpaper, and I NEVER use space scenes for my wallpaper.
Edit: Ok people, you have to see this thing taking up the full screen. _________________ Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve ~ Sir Walter Scott

I actually prefer the cube one somehow, it just seems more...Blackstar. Besides, if was flat like that, Ace Addman could do a running jump off the edge of Blackstar, drift through space gathering momentum, ride around the event horizon of a black hole, and use it to slingshot himself back and kick an opponent in the head.
I swear to god it's not powerplay. _________________ I like big cookies and I cannot lie,

That's been my argument the entire time!
Also... that would be the best thing ever. _________________ "Paranesia was quickly becoming sick of her hands. "You're not particularly impressive looking, are you?"" |

That's pretty much the point I was trying to make. Computer generated terrain always looks computer generated, so do star fields. The one thing computers don't do well is controlled chaos, which is what terrain is - while it has rules, it does not look good with regularity thrown in. No matter how hard you try to hide it, unless there's some serious work done to make it look "natural" CGI terrain comes off looking exactly like what it is. Unrealistic and fake.
As to the cube/sphere/torus/disk/plane/shape of the world issue, that's up to DP. I'm just the pixel pusher.
If you think that shot is good Dani... wait until you see it at full size.
The map here is less than 10% actual resolution... which is one reason why it's taking so long. Had to repair PS twice already when it choked on applying filters to a 3000x3000 pixel, 40Mb file. *sigh* _________________
